Send us a message! <3In this week's episode we return to questions of authority and credibility through a deep dive into the least qualified human on the planet for his job: Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. We also asks some serious questions about who benefits (including financially!) from the anti-vaxx movement, and why Kennedy's medical history and character are an important part of understanding his eugenicist attitude towards autism and other health issues. Send us a message! <3In this week's episode we talk about the recent coroner's report out of Australia that has reignited discussion about free birth and the role of birth influencers. I explain the role of influencers (and advise a healthy dose of skepticism because I am *that* kind of doctor), talk about what free birth is, and suggest why midwives might be a much safer alternative for those looking for more autonomy and less intervention. Send us a message! <3In this week's news-cast, we talk about the recent news of Ivana Nikoline Brønlund whose baby was taken away from her. Why? She failed a Danish parenting assessment. The problem? That assessment was illegal to use with Greenlandic parents like Brønlund because it has shown clear racial biases. But parent-child separation has a long history of racist roots, in particular against indigenous communities like those in Greenland, the US, Canada, and Australia. Let's look at what reproductive justice can help us understand about this terrible history and why it keeps repeating itself. Let's go! This is a public episode. Send us a message! <3What does contemporary birth politics have to do with Nazis? As Dr. Erika Briesacher explains, a lot more than you'd think. This episode looks at Trump and his allies' push to fetishize motherhood through pronatalist, anti-child policies like $5000 bonuses and possibly Nazi-esque medals for having the right amount of kids. We discuss the racial roots of these policies and how the racialization of birth continues today. If you're ready for a crash course in identity politics and birth, this one's for you. Let's go!
