Marc Romero Boixadé is the founder of Marc Romero Interiors, a design studio working between Berlin and Barcelona. His work is shaped by a philosophy he often describes as “slow design”, an approach that prioritizes listening, empathy, and a deep understanding of how people live in their spaces.Originally trained in cinematography and photography, Marc did not begin his career in interiors in a traditional way. After moving from Catalonia to Berlin in his early twenties with little more than a camera and a one way ticket, his creative path gradually evolved through experience, experimentation, and intuition. During the pandemic, a first restaurant project unexpectedly opened the door to interior design, eventually leading him to launch his studio and focus entirely on residential spaces.Marc’s work blends Mediterranean sensibility with a precise and thoughtful process. Natural materials such as wood, clay, linen, and cotton appear frequently in his interiors, often paired with organic shapes, arches, and earthy tones. Light plays a central role in his approach. Influenced by his background behind the camera, he designs spaces by imagining how light moves through them during the day, shaping the atmosphere and revealing the “soul” already present in a place. In this conversation, Marc reflects on his unconventional journey into design, the influence of his Catalan roots, and how Berlin shaped his professional life. He explains why limiting the number of projects allows him to truly listen to clients, shares the tools he uses to collaborate transparently, and discusses the growing role of vintage pieces in his future work.Podcast Highlights:• The idea of “slow design” and why taking fewer projects improves the creative process• Moving from a small Catalan town to Berlin and building a life abroad• How photography and cinematography influence the way he designs interiors• The importance of light in shaping the soul of a space• Natural materials and Mediterranean textures as the foundation of his aesthetic• Designing homes through empathy, transparency, and close collaboration with clients• Building a studio through intuition, experimentation, and word of mouth• Opening a second base in Barcelona while continuing to work in Berlin• The role of renderings, mood boards, and shared tools to make design decisions transparent• His growing interest in integrating vintage pieces into contemporary interiorsFollow Marc Romero / https://www.instagram.com/marcrromeroFollow Sotokler Studio / https://www.instagram.com/sotoklerstudio/Discover more episodes at sotoklerstudio.com/sotoklersessions
