A shell-shocked Tommy, Harry and Will get together in the wake of Charleston's 25-point loss to 7th-seeded Towson in the CAA Tournament quarterfinals. We talk about the recurring issues that ultimately ended the Charleston season well short of expectations. Later, we try to put the 25-26 campaign in perspective and look ahead to the offseason.
This is March! Tommy and Harry hop on the mic right after Charleston comes back from a 15-point deficit to topple the UNCW Seahawks in a battle between the CAA's top two seeds. We talk about Jlynn Counter's heroics, Chris Davis carrying himself like an upperclassmen, and how the Cougs can carry this momentum into D.C. at the CAA Tournament.
The Cougars officially clinched a bye last week after a Senior Night victory over Monmouth. Will Hanahan is back on the pod to talk about Connor Hickman's surprising re-eligibility, where Chris Davis ranks among recent CofC freshmen and the bigs dominating another small-ball CAA squad. Then we look ahead to the postseason with a power ranking of who we don't want to see on our side of the bracket in DC.
Former Cougar Harry Bowne is back on the pod to talk through Charleston's 1-1 week. We kick it off by discussing a "horse(poop)" judicial verdict that all but ends Connor Hickman's collegiate career. Then we turn to an uninspiring loss to Hofstra, Jlynn Counter Panic Meter, a narrow road win over Campbell, and how both CofC big men dominated on Sunday.
Tommy and the resident CofC basketball superfan known as Cougie Monster gather for a vent/therapy session in the wake of Charleston's disappointing home loss to UNCW. We discuss the familiar issues that continue to plague the team in games versus premier mid major teams, empty calories in the starting lineup, and the impact of the loss on the fans and students. Then we turn our attention to Hofstra, what's going on around the CAA, and Charleston's closing stretch of games.
The Cougars passed a major test with two gritty road wins in New York and Boston. Will Hanahan rejoins the pod to talk about Jlynn Counter's clutch gene, and where he would rank amongst the best single season Cougars of the past ten years. We also discuss some more separation in the CAA, preview a big televised matchup against UNCW this week and break down Chris Mack's infamous water balloon play.
Voice of the Cougars Everett German is back on the pod to recap a business-like 2-0 week for Charleston. We talk about Christian Reeves all but securing a Player of the Week award with back-to-back career games, and take a temperature check on two other Cougs in supporting roles. Then we turn to the deepest CAA in recent memory, and Everett shares the mentality of the team's road games last week and what we expect on the always-important Hofstra-Northeastern swing.
Everybody's favorite anonymous message board poster, Cougie Monster, rejoins the pod to relive two very different but equally frustrating road losses for Charleston. We talk about the recent struggles of Colby Duggan and the CofC bench unit, Connor Hickman's hot shooting, and why this team seems to be turning back towards old bad habits. We also note some donor frustrations and take another look around the CAA.
The Cougars remained undefeated in conference play this week with a satisfying win over William & Mary and an ugly victory over Hampton. Harry Bowne is back on the pod to chat through Colby Duggan getting his feet under him, whether or not the Cougars have toughness concerns, and to take a peek around the surprisingly competent CAA. We also look ahead to a nationally-televised matchup with the preseason favorite on Thursday.
The Charleston Cougars extended their winning streak with a perfect start to CAA play. Harrison Bowne returns to the pod to chat through some All-Conference performances from Jlynn Counter and Chol Machot, Colby Duggan's much-anticipated return, notes from around the conference and much more in this fully loaded New Year's Day episode.
Ryan Teichler aka Cougie Monster joins the pod to celebrate Charleston’s third straight dub. We chat through a narrow rivalry victory over Citadel, Jlynn Counter’s MVP performance versus Northern Kentucky and the Cougars finding their footing in recent weeks. Then we put a bow on non-conference play and preview what Colby Duggan’s return will mean for the Cougars.
Tommy is joined by Cougar superfan and new Substack creator "Burns Alley Bombers" to react to Charleston's much-needed home victory over Charlotte. We talk about Jlynn Counter's late-game heroics, dissect the good and bad from CofC's game versus USF down in Tampa and dig into the unexpected "mutual" departure of assistant coach McInnis.
We're back from Thanksgiving and unfortunately recapping another CofC home loss to a Missouri Valley team with Will Hanahan. Tommy and Will chat through the big-picture issues facing the team, a pair of season-ending injuries to Mister Dean and Will Mortimore, Conor Hickman's return to eligibility and which CofC legend Chad Traylor is reminding us of lately.
Lifetime Cougar fan Will Hanahan makes his Holy City Hoops debut to chat through Charleston’s games against SC State and Drake. We talk about Mister Dean’s much-anticipated debut, wrestle with where to place blame for Charleston’s low effort versus the Bulldogs, and try to imagine what Rasheed Wallace was thinking during his visit to TD Arena. We open the show with some good news about Connor Hickman.
After a disappointing 0-2 trip to Virginia, Voice of the Cougars Everett German joins to talk reasons for optimism. We discuss how CofC will have to adjust to life without Colby Duggan, the impressive play of Machot and Kalu, guys who will need to step up, and what we're hoping to see against SC State.
Harry and Tommy gather immediately after Charleston's season-opening victory over Tusculum to talk through the good (Chol Machot! Martin Kalu! Jlynn Counter!) and the bad (outside shooting). They also discuss the unexpected injuries to Colby Duggan, Mister Dean and others. Finally, we take a look at the CAA scoreboard and preview this weekend's games against Liberty and FAU.
We're baaaack... Check out the latest edition of the Holy City Cougs Den hybrid pod. While Friend of the Program Harrison Bowne welcomes Baby #2, Tommy will hold down the podcast mics, which means you can listen here or on the Cougs Den feed. Today we're talking CAA Media Day, secret scrimmages, the best players in the league and much more.
In the final episode of the season, Everett German joins the show to recap Charleston's NCAA Tournament loss to SDSU and preview the summer ahead. We also share our favorite memories from the year, and reminisce about a special basketball season in the Holy City.
Minutes after the NCAA Tournament bracket is revealed, Tommy is joined by friend-of-the-program Ryan Teichler to react to the 5-12 matchup between the College of Charleston and San Diego State in Orlando. We take a look at what the Aztecs do well, where the Cougars may have an advantage, and the rest of the South region.
Less than 24 hours after watching Charleston cut down the nets, Harrison Bowne and Tommy react to everything that went down at the CAA Tournament: Reyne Smith goes streaking, physical play vs. Towson, Ryan Larson's heroics, and much more. Then we talk possible NCAA Tournament seeding, and the unique pleasure of not sweating out Selection Sunday.
