Description
The night before Halloween 1975, 15-year-old Martha Moxley was found bludgeoned to death outside her family’s home in the tony Greenwich, Connecticut, enclave of Belle Haven. The local police, used to dealing more with traffic stops than a high-profile murder, grappled with a lack of forensic evidence – or a motive. They had their suspects of course. The creepy neighbor. The eldest teenage son of the Skakel family next door. The Skakel children’s burly tutor. But without concrete evidence or a confession, the case stalled out. For decades, it remained unsolved and it seemed like no one would ever be charged with her killing. But then, a series of improbable events involving, among others, Dominick Dunne, William Kennedy Smith, and Mark Fuhrman, compounded to deliver the public a new suspect – 39-year-old Michael Skakel, who’d been 15, like Martha, at the time of the crime. The arrest made national headlines – and not just because Michael Skakel was an accused killer. He was also a cousin of the Kennedys. Skakel’s 2002 high-profile murder trial was a media feeding frenzy. Reporters wondered – would this rich, privileged son of a scion get away with it? Despite flimsy evidence and witnesses with questionable backgrounds, a jury convicted Michael. For many, it felt like a fitting end to the Moxley case. Finally, justice was served. Sentenced to 20 years to life in prison, Michael Skakel, who’d always proclaimed his innocence, fought for his freedom. In 2018, his conviction was overturned – and prosecutors declined to re-prosecute. Innocent in the eyes of the law, Michael remains guilty in the eyes of many. Where does the truth lie? Dead Certain: The Martha Moxley Murder, is an immersive, fresh take on this infamous case. The series is hosted by veteran journalist Andrew Goldman, hired a decade ago by Skakel’s cousin RFK Jr. to research a book about the case. But after the book was published, Goldman found he couldn’t let it go. New episodes every Tuesday through January 20, 2026.

Unfortunately this ultimately isn't worth your time. Well narrated by an affable host, who appears to have done thorough research, but there's too many episodes which, by the end, you realise aren't necessary. There are no conclusions or revelations that haven't previously been circulated around this case.
I like the series for showing other possible suspects, & failure of police work, etc. But your tone & alignment of friendship with Micheal still gives the vibe of lesser objectivity than I'd like to have heard. As my other comment states, your buying that "Micheal is sober & a changed person & therefore would have confessed" kinda feels like it nulls your suspicion of him. He can be sober & forgive himself without FURTHER confession. That should have been noted. Instead of the Knox slant!
Micheal already stated he'd forgive his brother Tom if he'd committed the murder. So this episodes point that Micheal would "confess" to get closure due to his sobriety, AA meetings, etc is a lame theory. He could have processed "forgiveness" for himself, as HE actually DID state & confess himself, "due to being drunk and blacked out"! He could have processed, that in his right mind he would not have done it. Therefore, "blame it on the alcohol" And then give himself grace.
How the Narrator glosses over Micheals disgusting own account of going outside, climbing a tree, stalking, stating he intended to watch the victim in her room, and eventually jacking off, ... all in the location of her actually brutal murder is beyond disgusting. 😳 I mean, come on!!??!!! He might as well let Micheal narrate the rest of the episodes. They sound one & the same now. He's clearly now led by his bromance & the paycheck he accepted from Micheals team, to even begin this series.
To add to my comment on the last episode, "I've stopped trusting the narrators objectivity". It clearly sounds like he has gotten Stockholm syndrome, going full speed "team Micheal". He doesn't even hide the fact that they are clear buddies & talk on the regular! His sarcasm is obnoxious as he presents patronizing, biased, "info" on the trial. He snears & mocks testimony in a snide tone. (transparently, like an enemy gossiping). Barf! He sounds like a frat boy protecting his chum.
This episode is when I stopped trusting the narrator. He's clearly lost objectivity. Whether he now believed or didn't believe in Michael's innocence (from start to finish), I feel he should still maintain objectivity instead of switching to being a clear cheerleader .... I wanted to stop after this episode, ... as I feared the next episode would get even worse, ... and it did. Nauseatingly so. To the point of injecting sarcasm, bias, and one-sided presentation based on his opinion.

Really interesting and surprising podcast about the Martha Moxley murder. I had always assumed it was the same suspect , but to my surprise, it is not. Well covered and an easy listen.
