Description
Do you remember the “kid’s table” when at family holidays or dinners? I do and that is right where I feel I am at, still, in my walk with God. Some look at it as being “ankle deep” in our walk. Either way, I am at a point where I am tired of being in this state. Every Monday at 6 am I will release short episodes where I am going to share what stood out to me in my time with God. At the end of the day it comes down to where scripture meets your story. You may be in the same spot as I am or you are sitting at the adult table or may need to join the kids table. Either option is ok, these episodes are to start the conversation as to “what stands out to you?” and not only grow myself but help others grow as well. "Here's the thing - leaving the kid's table isn't a one-time decision. It's a daily choice. And every day you choose to go deeper, I'll be right here with you."

Episode Title: [Title]Episode Description:Twenty-five years of waiting. Then laughter. Isaac is finally born and his name literally means "he laughs." But before the celebration can settle, God asks Abraham to do something unthinkable—send away his other son, Ishmael, the boy he raised for nearly two decades. Genesis 21 isn't just about God keeping promises on His timeline. It's about what happens when keeping God's promise costs you something you helped create in your impatience. And it ends with a question that will challenge how you're living: Can someone who actually walks with God look at your life and tell that He's with you?In This Episode:Why Isaac's birth brings laughter after 25 years of waitingThe son born from impatience versus the son born from promiseWhat it really looked like when Abraham sent Ishmael away (he wasn't a toddler)A father's impossible choice and what we'd actually do in that momentWhy God still showed up for the son born from a fleshly decisionThe difference between someone noticing your faith and someone recognizing God's presenceWhy Abimelek's observation hits different than a stranger's complimentKey Quote:"It's easy to perform faith in front of people who don't know any better. In Genesis 20, Abraham makes a familiar mistake out of fear, while a king named Abimelek shows us what true fear of God looks like. Episode Title: Under My Roof: What Are You Willing to Sacrifice for God's Purpose?Episode Description:Lot's offer in Genesis 19 is one of the most disturbing moments in Scripture—offering his daughters to protect two strangers. But what if we're missing the point? What if this isn't just about a father's terrible decision, but about recognizing God's purpose when it crosses your path and being willing to protect it at any cost? This episode asks the uncomfortable question: What would you sacrifice to keep God's will under your protection? Your career? Your reputation? Your comfort? And here's the twist—if Lot hadn't been bold enough to intercept those angels and beg them into his home, would his family have been saved at all?In This Episode:The verse that's hard to swallow and why it matters more than you thinkWhy Lot offered his daughters before anything else (and what that reveals)Three realizations that completely reframe this disturbing storyThe difference between encountering God's purpose and protecting itWhat divine appointments you might be missing because you're too comfortableWhy Lot's boldness to intercept the angels saved his entire familyThe gut-check question: What precious thing would you sacrifice for God's will?Key Quote:"God's purposes are constantly moving through our cities, our workplaces, our neighborhoods. The question isn't whether we'll encounter them. The question is: Will we be bold enough to recognize them and say, 'Come under my roof. I'll protect you. Episode Title: The Side of a Mountain: When God Shows Up and Nothing Goes as PlannedEpisode Description:Sitting on a mountainside waiting for elk, bargaining with God about the "how" and "when"—only to open Genesis 18 and find Abraham doing the exact same thing. But Abraham wasn't negotiating for himself; he was bartering for the lives of strangers in cities about to be destroyed. This episode explores what it means to have a relationship with God so deep that you can actually negotiate with Him, and why sometimes His provision looks nothing like what you prayed for. Spoiler: the elk hunt didn't go as planned, but what happened instead was exactly what was needed. In This Episode:What Abraham did when God showed up at his tent (and what we should do)The difference between honoring God and immediately asking Him questionsWhy Sarah laughed and then lied about it to God's faceHow Abraham had the confidence to barter with God for strangers' livesWhether you're a Sarah (doubting while making backup plans) or an Abraham (standing firm on the relationship)A real elk hunt where every plan failed but God provided anywayWhat it means when God's provision is the journey, not just the outcomeKey Quote:"Abraham's heart was to save the people. Episode Title: That Very Day: What It Means to Be a Man of Your WordEpisode Description:At 99 years old, Abraham receives a new name, a renewed promise, and an ask from God that nobody would sign up for voluntarily. No numbing cream. No modern medicine. Just immediate obedience. Genesis 17 challenges everything about delayed obedience and convenient commitment. When God says "walk before me and be blameless," He's not asking for perfection—He's asking for a heart that says yes even when the ask is hard. This episode will make you reconsider what you've been putting off and why reassurance might just be another word for excuse. In This Episode:Why God changed Abram and Sarai's names (and what that means for you)The power of speaking meaning over people through their namesGod's covenant promise versus God's uncomfortable askWhat "walk before me and be blameless" actually meansWhy Abraham laughed but still obeyed immediatelyThe difference between seeking reassurance and making excusesWhat took the host a full year to obey (and why you shouldn't wait that long)Key Quote:"See 'walking before God and being perfect' is just like Leaving the Kid's Table, it's a daily choice. Episode Title: Perhaps I Can: When We Try to Speed Up God's PromiseEpisode Description:"Perhaps I can build a family through her." Five words that reveal how tempting it is to help God out when His timing doesn't match ours. In Genesis 16, Sarai's plan works—sort of. There's a pregnancy, but also despising, mistreatment, and a runaway slave alone in the desert. Yet in the mess of human impatience, God shows up in the most unexpected way. This isn't just Abram and Sarai's story anymore. It's also about Hagar, a woman who may not have even known God's name, but God knew hers—and He heard her misery. In This Episode:The dangerous appeal of "perhaps I can" when waiting gets hardWhy Sarai's plan worked but backfired spectacularlyWhat happens when we rush what God has promised usThe woman everyone forgot about—and why God didn'tHow God meets us in the desert even when we don't know His nameWhat the name "Ishmael" teaches us about a God who hearsWhy our detours don't disqualify us from God's promisesKey Quote:"God had a promise to keep with Abram and Sarai, they tried to make something work but it seemed to backfire on them. Episode Title: Fighting Off the Birds: What to Do While You Wait on GodEpisode Description:Fresh off an impossible victory, Abram crashes hard with doubt and desperation. "What can You give me?" he asks the God who just called Himself Abram's great reward. Sound familiar? In Genesis 15, we discover that God's answers don't always match our questions—and that waiting on God requires more than just patience. It requires protection. When God asks Abram to bring Him animals and birds of prey start circling, one simple action changes everything about how we should approach our waiting seasons. In This Episode:Why Abram went from hero to heartbroken in one conversationThe faith that made Abram righteous in God's eyes (and what that means for us)God's bizarre answer to a straightforward questionWhat those circling birds of prey teach us about our waiting seasonsThe difference between "not yet" and "no" from GodWhy God might be asking you to bring Him something you already know how to doKey Quote:"Birds of prey do not just appear, they take some time to actually find the prey. That means Abram was there for a while. He had to wait on God's timing. He had to protect what God asked of him."Next Steps:Subscribe so you don't miss an episodeShare this with someone ready to go deeperSubmit a prayer request or Tell us what stood out to YOU at https://leaving-the-kids-table.captivate.fm/Connect With Us:Website: https://leaving-the-kids-table.captivate.fm/About Leaving the Kid's Table:A weekly podcast where we explore God's Word together, one chapter at a time. Episode Title: When Victory Meets Integrity: The Battle You'd Never ExpectEpisode Description:318 men against an army that just crushed five kingdoms? Impossible odds. But what happens after the victory reveals something even more powerful about living for God's glory. In this episode, we dive into Genesis 14's epic battle scene and discover why Abram refused to take even a sandal strap from the king of Sodom. This isn't just ancient history—it's a challenge to examine where we're letting others take credit for what God is doing in our lives. In This Episode:How 318 household servants defeated a conquering king's entire armyThe moment Abram made a choice that defined his legacyWhy refusing a "thank you gift" mattered more than we thinkThe difference between pointing to God and truly giving Him all the creditWhere you might be giving someone else a foothold to steal God's gloryKey Quote:"Abram wanted everything that God had promised, accomplishments, and his life to point to God's glory. He wanted no one to take the credit for what God is doing, will do, or has done."Next Steps:Subscribe so you don't miss an episodeShare this with someone ready to go deeperSubmit a prayer request or Tell us what stood out to YOU at https://leaving-the-kids-table.captivate.fm/Connect With Us:Website: https://leaving-the-kids-table.captivate.fm/About Leaving the Kid's Table:A weekly podcast where we explore God's Word together, one chapter at a time. Episode Title: Return to Your AltarEpisode Description:When everything gets bigger—your family, your responsibilities, your wealth—sometimes you need to go back to the place where it all started. Abram returns to the altar he built, the spot where God first spoke to him, and God says the promise again. Not because Abram forgot. Not because God changed His mind. But because dreams don't happen overnight, and sometimes we need to be reminded that the waiting is part of the journey. Where's your altar? And when's the last time you went back?In This Episode:Why Abram returned to the exact spot where he first heard God's voiceThe moment when success forces a family to split in two directionsWhat it means when God repeats a promise He's already madeThe struggle of wanting the dream now versus walking through the steps to get thereFinding your personal altar—the place where you feel closest to GodKey Quote:"Things aren't just going to happen overnight. You've got to take that first step or two steps to get there. Episode Title: When God Says "Go"Episode Description:A 75-year-old man. No GPS. No address. Just God saying "go to a land I will show you." What happens next involves a famine, a lie, a palace, some plagues, and a mysterious ending where everyone walks away richer than they started. Abram's story isn't a roadmap for making questionable decisions—it's proof that God's plans unfold even when we can't see past the next step. And sometimes, especially when we mess up along the way.In This Episode:Why God chose retirement age to start Abram's greatest adventureThe uncomfortable moment when faith meets famine and desperation kicks inHow Abram's lie about Sarai somehow led to blessings (and what that means for us)What it means to say "yes" when God's only instruction is "go"Key Quote:"God asks us to go, God has plans for us—do we know them? Episode Title: When God Takes Away Your StrengthEpisode Description:Imagine finally getting the recognition you've been working for—someone you admire says "nothing will be impossible for you"—and in the next breath, they take away the very thing that made you successful. That's exactly what happened at the Tower of Babel. But here's what most people miss: God wasn't against their success. He was against their "why." And that distinction changes everything about how we chase our dreams today. In This Episode:The confusing moment when God compliments humanity then scatters themWhy God cared more about their motivation than their achievementThe four words that revealed the fatal flaw: "make a name for ourselves"What the Tower of Babel teaches us about ambition, unity, and misplaced focusHow to check if your goals are building your name or pointing to God'sKey Quote:"God did not care that they were successful at building or working together.
