Freedom and Growth Between the Lines Are you a fun-loving, carefree person who prefers to drift with the wind? Are you happier following the rules and staying within the lines? Whichever you are, happiness and success will arrive when you combine both: 1) Too much flexibility in life doesn’t allow for compounding your life experience. Like money in the bank, leave it alone once you know what works. 2) Too much structure will limit your ability to discover growth opportunities. Don’t get stuck. Donnie and Marie said it best in the ’70s, “I’m a little bit country, he’s a little bit rock and roll.” Combine the best of both.  Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
You're Building Your Life Backwards October 21, 2025 | Episode 5207 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description Smart people are doing it backwards right now. Even people who studied this exact thing in college are forgetting the basics. They're chasing respect before they can pay rent. They're demanding acceptance while their life's falling apart. Scott breaks down why 2025 has been so damn hard and what Abraham Maslow figured out in 1954 that still works today. No shortcuts. No hacks. Just the sequential steps you actually need to climb. Spoiler: You can't skip steps just because you're 21 and think the world is different now. Featured Story Scott's been having the same conversation over and over the past few weeks with successful people who've somehow forgotten what they learned in college. They're college-educated. They know Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. But when Scott reminds them what they studied at university, they go, "Oh yeah, I forgot about it." Here's the thing that keeps coming up: people are trying to build the top floors before they've laid the foundation. They want self-actualization and respect while they can't feed themselves or feel safe. Scott calls it building without a peaceful base. And in a year as hard as 2025 has been—politically, financially, with AI throwing monkey wrenches everywhere—more people are doing this than ever. Even his son-in-law thinks he has to fix his entire hurricane-damaged house by himself when he's surrounded by a church community ready to help. Sometimes the basics are right in front of you. Important Points Your best life is built sequentially, one level at a time—forget the elevator, you've got to climb the steps to the top. If you can't feed yourself, feel safe, or maintain good relationships, you're not ready to help others or reach your full potential yet. Humans figured out how to build this whole world without AI, and things that have worked forever still work today—don't get distracted. Memorable Quotes "What a man can be, he must be. You feel it inside your bones." "I don't think you have to wait to become the person you're meant to be. I think you were put on this planet as that person." "If you can't feed yourself, if you don't have good relationships, if you're not happy, how could you possibly go out and help other people?" Scott's Three-Step Approach Take inventory of where you are in Maslow's five levels—physiological needs, safety, love and belonging, esteem, and self-actualization. Build your peaceful base first by handling the basics like shelter, money, relationships, and feeling safe before chasing bigger goals. Stop demanding respect and acceptance from others until you've mastered the previous levels—what you can be, you must be, but in the right order. My dog Levi is a champion agility competitor — fast, fearless, and a complete hot mess who knocks things over and keeps running like it was the plan. His friend Jackson? Steady, consistent, tail wagging, win or lose. Watching these two dogs compete for years has taught me something that takes most humans decades to figure out. The ribbon feels great, but it was never the whole point. This episode is about rediscovering why you're playing the game you're in — and what happens when you finally fall in love with it again. Featured Story There's a dog named Jackson who competes in agility alongside Levi. He's not the most talented dog out there. He doesn't work harder than anyone else. He doesn't take himself seriously. But somehow, Jackson runs clean every single time — tail wagging, steady pace, looking like he just won the championship, whether he did or not. Meanwhile, Levi and I are out there blowing past jumps and missing weaves, absolutely convinced it was the plan. Watching Jackson week after week, I started to realize something: he's not in it for the ribbon. He loves the run. That's the whole game for him — and it might be the smartest thing I've ever seen. Important Points When you love what you're doing, you stay more consistent, recover faster, and just keep getting better at it. You control the effort — not the outcome. Separate those two things, and your whole approach to the game will shift. Find the one specific thing inside what you do that genuinely lights you up, and make that your real anchor point. Memorable Quotes The people who stay in the game long enough to win big are almost always the ones who learned to love the game. Win or lose, Jackson always finds a reason to be happy about the day — and honestly, that kind of drives me crazy. Go collect those ribbons and carry them around with real dignity — just don't make the ribbon the whole point. Scott's Three-Step Approach Ask yourself honestly whether you still enjoy the game you're playing — not if you're good at it, but if you love it. Set your personal standards around the effort you can actually control, and let the results follow from there. Find what genuinely lights you up inside the work, anchor yourself to that feeling, and let it drive your showing up. Chapters 0:00 - Happy Friday, and today's going to the dogs 0:27 - Jackson — the dog who drives me a little crazy 5:56 - What my daughter said that made me think 6:47 - Why intrinsic motivation changes everything 9:46 - On ribbons, naps, and being humble about winning 11:31 - Are you Levi or Jackson? Ever tried building the perfect morning routine only to abandon it by day nine? Yeah, me too. I've watched smart, successful people design elaborate morning protocols straight from the latest book or podcast, and they almost never stick. Today, I'm breaking the mold and sharing what actually works—not some fantasy checklist, but the real, simple stuff that shows up even on your worst days. To show you what I mean, let me tell you about a client whose story might hit close to home, and the question that changed everything for him. If your mornings feel like a test you keep failing, this one's for you. Featured Story I had a client a few years back — a smart guy, a solid business, a good family. He'd been chasing the perfect morning routine for years. Every book, every sequence, even a fancy journal designed to optimize his mornings. He could walk me through the ideal morning minute by minute. Impressive, honestly. What he couldn't tell me was when he last actually did it. He'd built a monument to mornings and failed before his day even started. So I asked him one question: what's the one thing you could do every morning that would make your day feel right? His answer surprised us both — and it had nothing to do with cold showers. Important Points The most effective morning routines are simple enough to do every day, even when things aren't going well. Stop designing a morning that would impress someone else and start building one that actually fits who you really are. Simplicity is the highest form of intention, making routines stick. Memorable Quotes He built a monument to mornings, and every day he woke up and didn't do it—that's not motivation; it's complexity. Real routines show up when you're tired, traveling, and the kids have you up at 3 a.m. — that's the whole point. Simplicity is the highest form of intention, and that's what works every time. Scott's Three-Step Approach Find your anchor — one thing that makes your morning feel right, not impressive, just yours and doable every day. Make the bar ridiculously low so you can clear it even on your worst day — no negotiation, no setup, just do it. Protect your first 20 minutes from the noise and let that simple start compound into a day that actually works. Chapters 0:02 - Spring breakers and living in Port Orange 0:44 - The laptop lifestyle lived without the laptop 2:27 - Why your perfect morning routine never sticks 4:42 - The client who built a monument to mornings 6:25 - One question that changed his whole routine 9:45 - The minimum effective dose for your morning 11:43 - Three moves to build a morning that fits you Connect With Me Search for the Daily Boost on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify Want insights from Scott delivered to your inbox? Most people are looking for something to lean into — a mood, an anchor, a reason to keep going. But how do you measure whether you’re actually doing that? I got sick for almost a month, and it reminded me of something I learned years ago with my first wife, Cheryl. When health slips, it can take everything with it. That experience sent me back to my standards — and back to a question worth sitting with: How do you know when you’re truly alive? Let’s talk about the tests that keep me honest. Featured Story A few weeks ago, I was knocked down with a bad head cold — maybe COVID, I’m not sure — and I barely left the house for five days. Before I knew it, almost four weeks had passed without going to the gym. When I finally started feeling like myself again, something hit me hard. Years ago, my first wife, Cheryl, got cancer. For a while, mostly life felt normal. We talked about what we’d do if things got worse — swim with dolphins, knock off the bucket list. Then things did get worse, and suddenly none of it was possible. Being sick this time brought it all back. Don’t wait. Important Points Your standards are the quiet, personal tests you run on yourself every single day to know things are still right. Functional fitness isn’t about ego — it’s about staying capable enough to show up every day and do what matters. A peaceful base isn’t a destination you reach — it’s something you protect every day, so every dream is reachable. Memorable Quotes The real standard is pretty simple — do you feel like yourself, and can you still do the things you want to do? When this one thing is working right, the whole world feels right — find yours and protect it every single day. You weren’t built to goof off and do nothing — you were meant to make a real difference, so go get after it now. Scott’s Three-Step Approach Start by naming your one personal standard — the specific thing that, when right, tells you everything is working. Build your daily habits around protecting that standard so your peaceful base stays solid, stable, and strong. Once your foundation is solid, pursue every dream, goal, and ambition you’ve got without holding anything back. Most days feel pretty good, don't they? Bills paid, generally happy, life humming along nicely. But somewhere underneath that contentment, there's a quiet voice asking if this is really yours. I hear it too. The truth is, almost everything around you was built by somebody else — the roads, the businesses, the routines. And if you're not careful, you end up living inside their vision instead of your own. Today I'm talking about how to stop borrowing somebody else's dream and start building the life that actually feels like you. Featured Story I was driving through Daytona a few days ago — sick, probably shouldn't have been behind the wheel — when I ended up in front of the Daytona International Speedway. That thing is massive. Two miles of it just sitting there. And it hit me: none of this just showed up. Somebody decided to build it. Somebody got tired of racing on the beach and said, we need a track. So they built one. And here I am, years later, driving past somebody else's idea, living inside somebody else's dream. That's when I realized how easy it is to default into the world other people created — not because you're lost, just because it's already built and already moving. Important Points Almost everything around you was designed by somebody else — and it's quietly reshaping who you are every single day. That feeling that there should be more isn't a problem to fix — it's a signal pointing directly at what's inside you. Pulling back the mindless habits and patterns in your way naturally reveals the life you actually want to be building. Memorable Quotes If you don't consciously create your own direction, you automatically default into somebody else's dreams every time. The people living a life they actually designed didn't get chosen — they just decided and kept going until it was real. It's not about reinvention — pick one thing that makes you feel like you, then show up and do it again tomorrow. Scott's Three-Step Approach Get brutally honest about what you actually want — not what looks good on paper, but what genuinely feels like you. Notice where you're following momentum you didn't create and saying yes simply because something's already there. Pick one thing that moves in your direction and let everything else you're doing align underneath that one choice. Chapters 0:01 - Are you living somebody else's good life? 2:50 - The world was built without you — and for you 2:58 - Driving past the Speedway and finally waking up 6:51 - Stop borrowing visions and start building yours 8:30 - Three honest moves to reclaim your direction 10:43 - Pick one thing that makes you feel like you Connect With Me Search for the Daily Boost on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify If you enjoy the Daily Boost, you might like Notes From Scott. Have you ever noticed that the people who quietly get things done seem to get ahead faster than everyone else? There's a reason for that. I'm talking about the power of keeping your plans to yourself — practicing in private until you're ready to show the world what you've built. While everyone else is posting and asking for permission, a handful of people are just doing the work. This Friday, I want to challenge you to try something uncomfortable. Keep your next move to yourself, do the work, and let the results speak for you. Featured Story I walked into my office this week and found messages from two clients. Both had taken the spring break downtime and done something unexpected — in private, without saying a word to anyone. One had spent a quiet week doing what I call private practice. No posts, no announcements, no asking for permission. Just doing the work. The other had knocked out an entire new project and shifted direction completely. I hadn't heard a single word about it. And honestly? Even though I'm their coach, I couldn't be prouder. That's exactly what I'm training them to do — just go do it, and let them catch up. Important Points What you practice in private, you'll eventually be praised for in public — that's the whole strategy, and it works. The moment you stop needing someone else's permission, you stop waiting around — and your life actually moves. When the rest of the world gets busy and looks the other way, that's your perfect window to do the work. Memorable Quotes Nobody needs to know how you got so good at what you do — just show up, do the work, and let it speak for you. When you believe in your idea and just sit down and do it without telling anyone, your whole world really changes. I bet the times you shifted everything in a new direction you wanted, you did it yourself — nobody dragged you. Scott's Three-Step Approach Pick the one thing you want to move on, commit to it quietly in private without telling a soul, and start now. Do all the work behind the scenes — practice, refine, and keep building until you genuinely know you're ready. Step into the world with your finished result already in hand and let it do the talking — no announcement needed. Chapters 0:02 - Happy Friday and spring break chaos in Florida 0:48 - Mom's fall, her comeback, and 94-year-old optimism 2:11 - Why keeping your plans secret is so powerful 3:46 - Two clients who went dark and quietly crushed it 8:33 - Practice in private, get praised in public 9:49 - No permission needed — just go do the work 10:49 - Uncommon discipline when everyone else is distracted Connect With Me Search for the Daily Boost on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify If you enjoy the Daily Boost, you might like Notes From Scott. Twenty years of coaching has a way of showing you what actually works — and what just keeps people spinning in circles. After tens of thousands of conversations and more than 5,300 episodes, I've stopped playing games with the stuff that doesn't move the needle. Today I'm sharing 10 things I know for certain — not theory, not fluff. Real lessons about clarity, momentum, time, decisions, and why success only works when your life actually works too. Push play. This one's a rant, and I mean that in the best possible way. Featured Story My Inner Circle call was still fresh in my mind when I sat down to record today's show — and I'll be honest, I restarted it five times before I got out of my own way. That call is 90 minutes of the smartest, most compassionate people I know — ages 31 to 74 — and not one of them wants to leave when time's up. That's what magic feels like. It reminded me why I do this. Twenty years in, tens of thousands of coaching hours, and I've learned that most people aren't stuck. They just aren't seeing their situation honestly. The minute they do, they know exactly what to do. That's the whole game. Important Points Most people aren't stuck at all — they just lack clarity, and the minute they finally get it, they start moving. Big life transformations don't usually come from blowing things up; they come from small, consistent daily shifts. Your daily actions are telling the real story of your life — not the goals you keep telling yourself you want. Memorable Quotes Once you see your situation honestly — really, truly honestly — you know exactly what to do, and you go do it. Action is always what creates momentum — it's never ever the other way around. Move first, and motivation follows. Time is your very best tool or your most comfortable excuse — and you're the one who gets to decide which one. Scott's Three-Step Approach Get brutally honest about where you actually are — that clarity alone is what finally gets you moving forward. Make one small, consistent shift today — the big changes you want in life are built from what you do right now. Make a real decision and start moving, because real momentum only shows up after you've already taken the action. Time is the one constant in your life — and most people don't realize they're using it until they don't have enough of it. After 20 years of showing up in this studio every single day, I've been thinking about this a lot. When you compress time and commit to a real deadline, something shifts. You focus faster, decide quicker, and stop messing around. When time expands, you drift — and drifting is where goals go to die. Today, I'm breaking down how to use time as a tool. Download the Perfect Week Planner at perfectweekplanner.com. Featured Story I walked into the studio this morning, asking myself why I still do this every single day. Twenty years is a long time to show up for anything. And then it hit me — time. It's why this show matters to me more now than ever before. I'm not 30. I'm not going to pretend I am. What I know now that I didn't know then is that time isn't just passing — it's either working for you or against you. Benjamin Hardy calls it a tool. You use it, or you drift. That thought alone changed how I look at every single day. And I think it'll change how you look at yours, too. Important Points When time pressure finally hits, you don't become a different person — you just show up as your absolute best. Free time is honestly the most dangerous gift there is — because most people never really figure out how to use it. The moment you set a real goal with a hard deadline, your brain immediately starts reorganizing everything else. Memorable Quotes Time isn't just something that passes by. It's something you actively choose to use or choose to drift through. When time compresses, magic happens. You focus faster, decide quicker, and you finally stop all the messing around. If you really want to change your life, don't wait around for more time — just give yourself a whole lot less. Scott's Three-Step Approach Start by agreeing that what you want actually matters enough to commit to right now — not someday, but right now. Compress your timeline down to a quarter of what you think it'll take and lock in that hard deadline right now. Let the deadline reorganize your entire day — it naturally protects your very best hours and kills the drifting. Chapters 0:02 - Cold in Daytona and 20 years of daily boosts 1:00 - What AI can't replace — insight and real wisdom 3:13 - Time is a tool: you either use it or you drift 5:34 - Why time compression brings out your best self 8:15 - The trap of free time and why it's so dangerous 9:34 - How goal-setting compresses time automatically 12:57 - Give yourself less time and finally get it done Connect With Me Search for the Daily Boost on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify If you enjoy the Daily Boost, you might like Notes From Scott. Are you focused — or just telling yourself a good story? There's a difference, and most people never stop long enough to notice it. I've been there too. I built an app last week when I had a completely different project sitting right in front of me. Classic move. The real problem isn't that you can't focus. You can focus just fine. The problem is you're focused on the wrong thing — and you've got a pretty convincing story to justify it. In this episode, we dig into what honest focus actually looks like and why getting there changes everything. Featured Story I was sitting at my computer around three o'clock on a Thursday afternoon when a friend mentioned how he'd built an app. I said, I can do that. Ninety minutes later, I had my daily awareness diary online. I was pumped. Got up the next morning at four o'clock — couldn't wait to keep going. Spent hours tidying it up. Loved every minute of it. But here's what I had to admit: it wasn't the project I needed to be working on that week. My wife walked by, gave me the look, and kept moving. She knew. And honestly? So did I. That's burying the lead — and I catch myself doing it more than I'd like. Important Points You're not stuck or blocked or broken — you're just focused on the wrong thing, and that's completely fixable. Burying the lead in your own life means talking around what you actually want instead of just saying the thing. The moment you stop decorating the story and name the real thing out loud, your life can shift in a matter of hours. Memorable Quotes You're not distracted — you're focused on something you think you want to be focused on. Those are two different things. Stop decorating the story. Say exactly what you want, turn face-first into it, get your butt busy, and just do it. Honest focus means saying the real thing out loud — not the comfortable version that sounds good inside your head. Scott's Three-Step Approach Get honest and name the real thing — not the comfortable version of it, but the actual thing that needs doing. Drop the story you've been telling yourself and put your full, honest focus on that one specific thing right now. Turn face-first into it, get your butt moving, and watch how fast everything around you starts to shift for real. Show Notes You've been told to "be more creative," but nobody ever shows you how. With nearly 900 million people calling themselves content creators, the pressure to stand out has never been higher — especially as AI reshapes the job market fast. I've been doing this since my radio days, filling six hours of airtime every single night. And I learned early on that creativity isn't some magical gift. It's a system. If you're ready to unlock an endless stream of ideas and finally turn them into something real, this one's for you. Featured Story I was 18 or 19, fresh out of high school, and I'd landed my dream job in radio. The station hired me because I was creative, a little unpredictable, and I had to fill six hours of airtime every single night. Early on, I spent an hour prepping for every hour on air. With a young family, that wasn't going to work. Then a guy named Vic Swan in Tallahassee told me something that changed everything. He said, Scott, just pay attention. At the grocery store, the gym, driving your car — just notice things and write them down. I've never stopped, and it's how I generate 100 to 200 ideas every week. Important Points Creativity isn't some magical talent — it's a repeatable system built on paying attention to your everyday life. Capture every idea without stopping to edit or organize — just toss them all in one trusted place and move on. Pull an idea out the night before, sleep on it, and watch how quickly the creativity flows when you sit down to work. Memorable Quotes "The people who are original, who actually take the time to create something real — they are going to do well." "Every single thing I do is observational — and it started as pure survival when I got into radio at 18 years old." "Just pay attention. As you live your everyday life, pay attention to everything around you and capture it all." Scott's Three-Step Approach Pay close attention everywhere you go and capture every idea in one trusted place — don't stop to edit, just collect. Pull your captured ideas out the day before and let your mind quietly work on them overnight while you sleep on them. You never know when opportunity will show up — or how messy it'll look when it does. Yesterday, I caught a spontaneous blues jam session at a church rehearsal, and it reminded me exactly why passion matters. But the real story goes back to a gym, a chaos-filled moving day, and a sentence I've never forgotten: "The computer is unplugged." Two people. Same moment. Completely different outcomes. One missed it. One grabbed it. Right now, we're living in one of the most opportunity-filled times in history. The question is — are you plugged in or not? Featured Story I walked into a gym on the last day of a pre-sale for a founding member. The place was chaos — boxes everywhere, equipment scattered, staff running in every direction. They were moving into a brand new 30,000-square-foot facility across the street. Most people would've walked out. I stayed. When I asked to sign up, the woman at the counter told me the computer was unplugged. That was it. Done. But then the owner, Fred, appeared out of nowhere. He grabbed a paper contract, took my credit card, and said we'd sort out the rest tomorrow. That moment didn't just get me a gym membership. It eventually led to teaching kickboxing, then boot camps, and ultimately to the birth of Motivation to Move. Important Points Passion and opportunity don't always show up on schedule — sometimes they crash your church rehearsal unannounced. The computer being unplugged wasn't the real problem. The problem was someone who simply couldn't see past it. Once you've decided what you want and you're already moving, opportunities start showing up everywhere you look. Memorable Quotes Opportunity almost never looks perfect — it usually shows up when things are at their messiest and most chaotic. When you've already decided what you want, you just step forward anyway — and that's the whole game right there. Life is nothing but friction and drag — and when it feels easy, you're just having yourself a really good moment. Scott's Three-Step Approach Get crystal clear on what you want so you can recognize an opportunity even when it walks in looking like total chaos. When the system isn't ready, look for the paper contract — there's always another way to get the deal done today. Stay plugged in and keep moving forward, because someone else is already building what you keep waiting to start. When a ten-day head cold and a client's second hip surgery both landed on my radar the same week, the question of motivation hit differently. How do you fire yourself up when life pulls you down? I've been building this around a simple idea — life begins when you move. And over 20 years, that's gone way deeper than the gym. When you can't do what you want to do, frustration builds fast. That's the signal. The good news? Motivation isn't fleeting. It's renewable. And once you know your triggers, you can flip the switch anytime you need it. Featured Story Paula has been a client of mine for almost 20 years. She just had her second hip done seven days ago, and there she was on our Inner Circle video call — same chair, same smile, same fire. What came up wasn't pain. It was frustration. Not being able to do what she wanted was the hard part. I've been feeling that too. Ten days with a head cold will do that to you. And it reminded me that this feeling — the one that comes when life slows you down — is actually the signal that your motivation is still alive. You just need the right trigger to fire it back up. Important Points Motivation isn't some exhaustible resource — you can renew your supply anytime once you know your personal triggers. Your physiology runs the show — move your body first, and everything about your mental state follows right after. Focus isn't really your problem — you're already focused on something right now, just probably not the right thing. Memorable Quotes Actions always precede change — change has never once preceded the action, no matter how long you sit with the idea. Physiology dictates your feelings — move your body, and your entire world instantly starts to shift right along with it. Focus is like a decision — when you truly make one, you literally cut off every other option that was available to you. Scott's Three-Step Approach Move your body first — even a few push-ups will shift your state fast and break you right out of any kind of slump. Lock your focus onto the things that genuinely fire you up, and start cutting out everything that drains you right now. Swap out negative self-talk for words that point forward — the language inside your head creates everything you feel. Inevitable Momentum

Inevitable Momentum

2026-03-1013:51

Most people think they're broken when life slows down. They're not. When momentum disappears, and everything feels like a grind, it's not a lack of discipline or drive — it's misalignment. I've spent 26 years watching what actually works, and real momentum isn't something you force. It emerges when the conditions of your life line up and stay that way. Today I'm sharing the philosophy of inevitable momentum — what it means, why friction is likely holding you back right now, and the simple cycle that keeps successful people moving forward. Featured Story I've been building this philosophy for about 26 or 27 years. Early on, I said life begins when you move. That was real, but it was tactical. Then I started noticing something much bigger happening. When people got genuinely excited about what they were doing, motivation became automatic. And when motivation became automatic, momentum wasn't just possible — it was inevitable. I started calling it inevitable momentum, and I've watched it play out again and again with clients. When life aligns, people don't just inch forward. They move with real clarity, energy, and speed. You can actually see it happen. Important Points Momentum isn't something you force — it emerges when your life's conditions are properly aligned and stay that way. Feeling stuck isn't a personal failure. It's a signal that something has quietly drifted out of alignment in your life. Force will never fix a momentum problem — but clarity will. Seeing what's actually off is always the first real step. Memorable Quotes When awareness leads to alignment and alignment leads to consistent daily movement, momentum becomes inevitable. You're not broken, and you haven't lost your drive. Something in your life has just quietly shifted out of alignment. Willpower never works long-term. Real momentum is free will — it shows up naturally when conditions are right. Scott's Three-Step Approach Start with awareness — get honest about what's draining your energy and where friction is showing up right now. Once you see it clearly, align your daily actions with your values and where you actually are in life right now. Take the next honest step — not perfect, just correct — and let consistent movement build naturally into momentum. Life isn't a straight path — it's a scavenger hunt. And the people who seem to have it all figured out? They're not smarter than you. They just ask better questions. In this episode, I'm sharing 10 perspective-changing questions I've been returning to for nearly 20 years. Questions that strip away the noise and get you honest about what you actually want. Not what someone else expects, not what's safe. What's yours? Whether you're just starting out or you've built a successful life and want more, these questions cut right to the truth. Featured Story A few years back, I started keeping a file. Not of answers — of questions. The kind I go back to two or three times a year when I need a reset. I call it my grounding file. It's like a suitcase of old pictures, familiar and clarifying every time I open it. Some of you have already found it — I can see where you're looking on the site. That's fine. Because these 10 questions are the ones I've been asking myself for nearly 18 years. They're simple on the surface. But sit with them long enough, and they start to rearrange things. Important Points Most people spend years chasing answers to questions they never asked — borrowed questions that don't belong to them. The moment you ask your own questions, awareness kicks in — and once you're aware, you can't go back to blindness. These 10 questions aren't answered once. You return to them as life unfolds because you change, and so do your answers. Memorable Quotes Life is a big scavenger hunt — and the ones who win are the ones who stay curious long enough to find their own answers. The most important thing you'll ever build in your life is you — the identity you grow into determines everything else. Your life moves toward the people around you — energy, attitudes, and expectations all transfer. Choose carefully. Scott's Three-Step Approach Start by asking what you actually want to do, have, and become — not what's expected, but what genuinely calls to you. Get clear on your people, your money, and your time — most people design their work but never design their freedom. Return to these questions again and again — your answers will shift as life unfolds, and that's how it should be. Purpose doesn't ring the doorbell. And waiting for the perfect moment to finally "figure it out" is the fastest way to miss the whole thing. If you're one of those people sitting around waiting for the lightning bolt, I've got news for you — the search is the purpose. In this episode, I'm breaking down the simple mindset shift that takes all the pressure off, gets you moving, and actually helps you discover what you're meant to do. Spoiler: it's not a five-year strategic plan. It's simpler than that — and it works. Featured Story A few years back, I started noticing a pattern. The people struggling most with purpose weren't the ones doing nothing — they were the ones trying hardest to think their way into it. Sitting still. Waiting for the big revelation. Like purpose was going to DoorDash itself to their front door. I get it. I've had people ask me, "Scott, just tell me my purpose." And honestly? That's way beyond my pay grade. What I could tell them was simple: if you don't know your purpose, your purpose is to find your purpose. The moment they heard it that way, something shifted. The pressure dropped. And that's when things started moving. Important Points If you're waiting for purpose to ring the doorbell, you're going to be waiting a long time — it shows up when you move. Pay attention to what lights you up, not what looks good on Instagram. That energy is a compass pointing you forward. Build a peaceful base — solid habits and stable relationships. That foundation gives you room to explore without panic. Memorable Quotes If you don't know your purpose, your purpose is to find your purpose. Get moving. That's the whole assignment. Life begins when you move. Evidently, purpose does too. It doesn't show up while you're sitting around waiting for it. Purpose isn't a destination; it's a direction. Stay curious, stay moving, and let the breadcrumbs lead you there. Scott's Three-Step Approach Give yourself permission to explore — start projects, learn skills, and follow every little spark of interest you feel. Notice what actually makes you feel alive, not what impresses others. That energy is pointing you toward your purpose. Build a peaceful base of habits and stability. A strong foundation lets you explore without desperation or panic. Most people say they want success or freedom — but when I ask them to define it, they go blank. That's the real problem. Vague goals create vague lives. Recording from Daytona Bike Week with a head cold and a Harley I can't ride, I've been thinking about what people really want. The answer isn't freedom — it's options. Options are freedom made concrete. In this episode, I break down the OPTIONS framework: a seven-step approach that helps you stop reacting, start choosing, and build a life that actually aligns with who you are. Featured Story I'd been coaching a client for a year. We'd been going deep together, building something real. Then one day I took it back to basics — I asked him what he really wanted. He said freedom. I pushed him. What does that actually mean? He hemmed and hawed for a minute. Finally, what he really meant was money, time control, and more time with his family. But he couldn't get there on his own. That's when I tried a different word. Instead of "freedom," what if we called it "options"? He stopped cold. Something clicked. That one word shift opened up everything — and it's become the foundation of the framework I use with every client today. Important Points "Success" and "freedom" both sound amazing until you actually try to define them — that's where most people stall. The OPTIONS framework gives you a clear, repeatable way to pause, choose wisely, and move forward with purpose. When your choices line up with your values, life gets clearer fast, momentum builds, and the right results follow. Memorable Quotes The last thing you want is to ever feel trapped — what you really want more than anything else in life is options. When you live within your value set, and your actions truly match your values, you really are living a good life. Once you become aware of what's actually happening in your life, you can't unsee it — and that changes everything. Scott's Three-Step Approach Observe what's actually happening and pause before you react — that awareness is where every good decision begins. Think through your possibilities, then identify the option that truly aligns with who you've already decided to be. Organize your plan, take a small deliberate action right away, then start living that choice as your new default. Chapters 0:02 - Welcome: Daytona Bike Week and a raspy voice 1:28 - Why "freedom" is too vague to build a life on 4:46 - One word that changes everything: options 6:57 - The OPTIONS framework explained, letter by letter 9:24 - Identify: aligning your choices with who you are 11:50 - Next step and start: making it your daily default Connect With Me Search for the Daily Boost on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify Email: support@motivationtomove.com Main Website: https://motivationtomove.com YouTube: https://youtube.com/dailyboostpodcast Instagram: https://instagram.com/heyscottsmith Facebook Page: https://facebook.com/motivationtomove Facebook Group: https://dailyboostpodcast.com/facebook Learn more about your ad choices. Plan Your Perfect Week

Plan Your Perfect Week

2026-03-0415:36

Every week starts with the best intentions — until life ambushes you. A cold, a client crisis, someone else's emergency. Suddenly, your week belongs to everything except you. That's not a motivation problem. It's a planning problem. I've been building and refining my Perfect Week Planner for 20 years, and it's the single reason chaos doesn't own me. It's not a to-do list or a color-coded calendar. It's a decision document. Five steps. One page. Total clarity. Ready to stop reacting and start directing your week? Let's walk through exactly how it works. Featured Story This week was supposed to go one way. Then I got knocked flat by a head cold for three days. I'd love to say it didn't matter — but it did. What I can tell you is it didn't blow up my week. That's not luck. That's what happens when you've already decided in advance how your week is going to go. I built the Perfect Week Planner for exactly this moment. Not the perfect weeks — the messy ones. The ones where life shows up uninvited. When chaos arrives, your pre-decisions do the heavy lifting. Your roles are clear. Your priorities are set. You work around the chaos instead of surrendering to it. Important Points Most people don't fail from lack of ambition — they fail because they let the week ambush them before they even start. The Perfect Week Planner isn't a to-do list or a calendar — it's a decision document that puts you in control. Planning every Thursday means your next week is already in motion before Sunday night panic has a chance to hit. Memorable Quotes "You always control your schedule — even when you think you don't. If you don't choose your focus, life chooses for you." "You can't build the life you want on a base of chaos — you have to decide how you're going to live before it starts." "If everything's important, nothing is — pick one primary focus and own the week instead of reacting to everyone else's." Scott's Three-Step Approach Set one primary focus for the week, pick your five key roles, and get brutally clear on what actually matters. Add your big goal and one high-impact action — this shows you exactly where your time and energy belong this week. Plan your entire next week on Thursday — block your time, own the schedule, and wake up Monday already in motion. Chapters 0:02 - Why life always ambushes your best-laid plans 3:03 - It's a planning problem, not a motivation problem 5:13 - Inside the Perfect Week Planner: how the system works 7:33 - Pre-decisions kill decision fatigue before it starts 8:12 - Five steps to own your week before it owns you 13:09 - The Thursday rule that ends Sunday night panic Connect With Me Search for the Daily Boost on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify Email: support@motivationtomove.com Main Website: https://motivationtomove.com YouTube: https://youtube.com/dailyboostpodcast Instagram: https://instagram.com/heyscottsmith Facebook Page: https://facebook.com/motivationtomove Facebook Group: https://dailyboostpodcast.com/facebook Learn more about your ad choices. What happens when your body forces you to stop? I came down with a nasty head cold that knocked me flat for four days — and suddenly, all the hustle and distraction was gone. No gym. No motorcycle. No walking the dogs. Just me and my thoughts. And something interesting happened. With the noise stripped away, I landed on the three things I've built my entire life around: freedom, options, and growth. If you're wondering why you feel stuck, the answer might be simpler than you think. Hit play — this one's worth your time. Featured Story I was sitting at dinner with my wife, and I just froze. She was feeding me chicken soup — weird noodles and all — and mid-bite, I completely stopped. She looked at me and said, "You okay?" I said yeah. I just stopped. That was the moment I realized how completely my body had taken the wheel. I couldn't work out. Couldn't ride my motorcycle — even with Bike Week happening right down the road in Daytona. Couldn't even read a book I wanted to read. Four days on the couch, and every single distraction was gone. That's when the real thinking started. And it led me right back to freedom. Important Points When life forces you to stop, clarity finds you — freedom, options, and growth reveal what matters most to you. The world keeps moving whether you're sick on the couch or not — that's not depressing. It's actually freeing. You can't control getting sick, but you can control what it means to you — that's where your real power lives. Memorable Quotes "You'll never feel trapped if you live a life of freedom, options, and growth. That's why I live and breathe on that." "The world doesn't manage your expectations — it just adjusts to your emotional weather and keeps right on moving." "My life, my time, my way — that's the most valuable asset you have and the only thing you'll never get back again." Scott's Three-Step Approach Force yourself to actually stop and get quiet — strip away the distractions until real clarity starts finding you. Now ask the hard question: do you have freedom, options, and growth — or are you just reacting to life's demands? Choose to build your life around those three things — and change everything that needs to change to get there. Chapters 0:02 - Down for the count and still thinking hard 1:40 - What happens when your body makes you stop 3:48 - Freedom has always been the real driver for me 4:51 - The world never pauses — not even for you 8:36 - Why I built my entire life around freedom 11:18 - Freedom, options, and growth — the only three that matter 13:29 - The mindset trap that keeps most people stuck Connect With Me Search for the Daily Boost on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, and Spotify Email: support@motivationtomove.com Main Website: https://motivationtomove.com YouTube: https://youtube.com/dailyboostpodcast Instagram: https://instagram.com/heyscottsmith Facebook Page: https://facebook.com/motivationtomove Facebook Group: https://dailyboostpodcast.com/facebook Learn more about your ad choices. Scott, I love your podcast. I don't mind the ads. I just skip them because I'm in Argentina and most products don't even exist here. Skipping a 2 or 3 min ad is no big deal. The rest of the episode is really good and I always feel motivated after listening to you. Thanks for your service and discipline. God bless you!

Morning Scott! I'm a consistent follower since June '24, listening on Cast Box. I hear and appreciate your format changes in '25. Is it me, or are you recording 1.5 or 2x? I find it challenging to stay up (enjoy) with the pace of your voice. If I slow down the playback, then parts of your show, and the promotions, are played back too slow. Good luck in 2025! Keep up the good work!
