Is regulation slowing down affordable EVs and can iconic small cars help fix it?! In this episode of the Everything Electric Podcast, Imogen Bhogal sits down with Fabrice Cambolive, CEO of the Renault brand and Chief Growth Officer, at Renault's Techno Centre outside Paris. They discuss what it will really take to make electric vehicles affordable in Europe; from the rebirth of the Renault Twingo to the regulatory changes shaping the industry. Fabrice reveals that 25% of Renault's engineering capacity is currently focused on navigating shifting European regulations, arguing that greater stability (without compromising safety) would allow manufacturers to concentrate on lowering costs for consumers. The conversation also explores the proposed M1E category for compact EVs under 4.2 metres, potentially Europe's answer to Japan's kei cars, and why Renault has decided to continue pursuing hybrids alongside fully electric models. Finally, Fabrice explains why bringing back icons like the Renault 5, Renault 4, and Twingo is about more than nostalgia and is all about trust, loyalty, and long-term value in an increasingly competitive market (ergo. China..) 00:00 Intro & Welcome 01:42 What does CEO of the Brand mean? 06:08 Why Renault is still thinking about hybrids 08:48 "Pluggable" vs. "Non-pluggable" customers 13:11 The M1E Category: Europe's answer to the Kei car? 15:43 Why regulations drive up EV costs 17:05 Why the Renault Zoe was discontinued 20:52 Reimagining the Twingo 25:24 Leveraging nostalgia and icons 32:17 Renault vs. Dacia: Managing the brand overlap 35:58 The future of Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) 41:04 Fabrice's 2026 geopolitical magic wish Why not come and join us at our next Everything Electric expo: https://everythingelectric.show Check out our sister channel Everything Electric CARS: https://www.youtube.com/@fullychargedshow Support our StopBurningStuff campaign: https://www.patreon.com/STOPBurningStuff Become an Everything Electric Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/fullychargedshow Become a YouTube member: use JOIN button above Buy the Fully Charged Guide to Electric Vehicles & Clean Energy : https://buff.ly/2GybGt0 Subscribe for episode alerts and the Everything Electric newsletter: https://fullycharged.show/zap-sign-up/ Visit: https://FullyCharged.Show Find us on X: https://x.com/Everyth1ngElec Follow us on Instagram: https://instagram.com/officialeverythingelectric To partner, exhibit or sponsor at our award-winning expos email: commercial@fullycharged.show EE NORTH (Harrogate) - 8th & 9th May 2026 EE WEST (Cheltenham) - 12th & 13th June 2026 EE GREATER LONDON (Twickenham) - 11th & 12th Sept 2026 EE SYDNEY - Sydney Olympic Park - 18th - 20th Sept 2026 #fullychargedshow #everythingelectricshow #homeenergy #cleanenergy #battery #electriccars #electric-vehicles-uk #EverythingElectric #ElectricVehicles #EV #AffordableEV #Renault #Renault5 #Renault4 #Twingo #ElectricCars #EVNews #FutureOfMobility #CleanTransport #SustainableTransport #EuropeanEV #CityEV #SmallCars #EVPolicy #AutoIndustry #MobilityInnovation #EnergyTransition #EVPodcast

In this episode of the Everything Electric Podcast, Robert Llewellyn is joined by Tim Jarratt, Executive for External Affairs & Strategy at Ausgrid, to unpack what's actually happening to our power networks, and why electric vehicles may not be the biggest challenge after all. While much of the world debates EV adoption, Australia is already living through a quiet energy revolution. Nearly 40% of Australian homes now have rooftop solar, turning the traditional one-way grid into a complex, two-way system where your neighbour might be powering your kettle.   Tim explains how Ausgrid is rethinking the grid from the ground up, squeezing more capacity from existing infrastructure, rolling out community batteries, and planning for a future shaped by data centres, electric transport, and millions of small power producers.     Why not come and join us at our next Everything Electric expo: www.everythingelectric.show    To partner, exhibit or sponsor at our award-winning expos email: commercial@fullycharged.show   EE NORTH (Harrogate) - 8th & 9th May 2026  EE WEST (Cheltenham) - 12th & 13th June 2026  EE GREATER LONDON (Twickenham) - 11th & 12th Sept 2026 EE SYDNEY - Sydney Olympic Park - 18th - 20th Sept 2026

In this episode, Robert Llewellyn chats with James Pickering, National President of the Australian Electric Vehicle Association (AEVA), diving into the incredible rise of electric vehicles and renewable energy "down under." From witnessing the Solar Challenge 30 years ago to becoming a lifelong EV advocate, James shares his journey and insights into how Australia has gone from limited EV options to a market bursting with diversity—from everyday BYDs and MGs to luxury EVs like Rolls-Royce. Together they discuss: 🔋The World's Oldest EV Association: How AEVA, founded in 1973 during the oil crises, paved the way for fuel security and innovation. 🔋 The Second-Hand EV Boom: Why buying a used EV in Australia is easier than you think—and why "battery anxiety" is mostly a myth. 🔋 Charging Infrastructure Realities: The truth behind charging queues and how the network has doubled in size in the last year. 🔋 Solar Opportunity: How rooftop solar lets some Australians charge their EVs for free—or even earn money doing it. 🔋Clever Charging Solutions: From gully chargers and swing arms to converting street poles—creative solutions for drivers without driveways. 🔋The DIY Legacy: How AEVA members continue the tradition of converting classic cars to electric Why not come and join us at our next Everything Electric expo: https://everythingelectric.show Support our StopBurningStuff campaign: https://www.patreon.com/STOPBurningStuff Become an Everything Electric Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/fullychargedshow Buy the Fully Charged Guide to Electric Vehicles & Clean Energy : https://buff.ly/2GybGt0 Subscribe for episode alerts and the Everything Electric newsletter: https://fullycharged.show/zap-sign-up/ Visit: https://FullyCharged.Show Find us on X: https://x.com/Everyth1ngElec Follow us on Instagram: https://instagram.com/officialeverythingelectric To partner, exhibit or sponsor at our award-winning expos email: commercial@fullycharged.show Everything Electric SYDNEY - Sydney Olympic Park 6th, 7th & 8th March 2026 EE NORTH (Harrogate) - 8th & 9th May 2026 EE WEST (Cheltenham) - 12th & 13th June 2026 EE GREATER LONDON (Twickenham) - 11th & 12th Sept 2026   #fullychargedshow #everythingelectricshow #homeenergy #cleanenergy #battery #electriccars #electric-vehicles-uk
Join Robert Llewellyn, Jack Scarlett, and Imogen Bhogal for a special year-end wrap-up as they take a mystery tour through the biggest moments of 2025, from unforgettable shoots, to the clean tech stories that really mattered, and share their bold predictions for what's coming in 2026. They kick things off by debunking the myth that EV sales are collapsing, revealing that global battery-electric vehicle sales are actually up 19% year-on-year. From there, the trio dive into their personal "Magic Money Tree" dream garages, featuring the Polestar 5, Kia EV9, the gloriously childish Ioniq 6 N, and Jack's verdict on the potentially game-changing BMW iX3.  There are also behind-the-scenes stories from some of the year's most memorable shoots — including the legendary solar safari in Namibia and the huge electric ferry project in Hobart. To wrap up, the team looks ahead to 2026, with predictions on a potential British automotive revival, the long-awaited arrival of truly affordable small EVs and whether Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology is finally ready for the mainstream. It's happened! The EU's inevitable 'cave-in' to intensive lobbying has been on the horizon for some considerable time. Imogen and Dan dive into what the EU's plan is, and whether it will help or hinder its member states, as well as how it ramps up pressure on the UK's beleaguered Government. Plus they say goodbye to 2025, by recalling its big moments, and stick their necks out, with some bold predictions for the next 12 months, including the car companies that are 'at risk' in 2026.   Why not come and join us at our next Everything Electric expo: https://everythingelectric.show   To partner, exhibit or sponsor at our award-winning expos email: Exhibit@EverythingElectric.Show   Everything Electric SYDNEY - Sydney Olympic Park 6th, 7th & 8th March 2026 EE NORTH (Harrogate) - 8th & 9th May 2026 EE WEST (Cheltenham) - 12th & 13th June 2026 EE GREATER LONDON (Twickenham) - 11th & 12th Sept 2026   Check out our sister channel Everything Electric TECH: https://www.youtube.com/@EverythingElectricShow   Support our StopBurningStuff campaign: https://www.patreon.com/STOPBurningStuff   Become an Everything Electric Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/fullychargedshow   Become a YouTube member: use JOIN button above   Subscribe for episode alerts and the Everything Electric newsletter: https://fullycharged.show/zap-sign-up/   Visit: https://FullyCharged.Show   Find us on X: https://x.com/Everyth1ngElec   Follow us on Instagram: https://instagram.com/officialeverythingelectric
Is the clean energy revolution happening faster than we think? In this episode of the Everything Electric Podcast, Robert Llewellyn sits down with Scott Cooney, co-founder of CleanTechnica, for a deep dive into the global shift towards a cleaner future. From his home in Hawaii, Scott shares unique insights on why the US lost its early lead in clean tech to China, and why he remains incredibly optimistic about the future. They discuss the mind-boggling scale of Chinese manufacturing, the "inevitability" of technological solutions like solid-state batteries, and why your next stove might have a battery inside it.  Plus, we look at the incredible "human-centred" design of electric school buses that are solving more than just pollution, and why data centers might not be the energy disaster everyone fears.  00:00 - Intro: Hawaii, Sydney, and the CleanTechnica Connection 02:28 - Why Hawaii is the Perfect Lab for Clean Energy (High Gas Prices) 04:29 - The Shift: How Silicon Valley Started It, but China is Winning It 09:07 - California's Economic Boom: The 5th Largest Economy Run on Renewables 13:19 - The UK's Secret Success: How Offshore Wind Replaced Coal 15:55 - The "No-Brainer" of Solid State Batteries & Tech Evolution 20:00 - Robotaxis & Waymo: Why Autonomous Driving Feels "Inevitable" 28:39 - The "Zoom" Electric School Bus: Solving Pollution & Bullying? 36:04 - Data Centers & AI: Why Solar Will Solve the Energy Demand Crisis 40:40 - The Future of Road Tax: How Do We Pay for Roads Without Gas Tax? 46:02 - The BYD Explosion: From Unknown to 3rd Biggest Automaker 49:50 - Smart Homes: Fridges and Stoves with Batteries?! 55:40 - Electric Ships: Batteries are replacing massive diesel engines 58:30 - The Electric Home Show: Bill McKibben & Earth Day in Hawaii Why not come and join us at our next Everything Electric expo: https://everythingelectric.show Check out our sister channel Everything Electric CARS: https://www.youtube.com/@fullychargedshow Support our StopBurningStuff campaign:  https://www.patreon.com/STOPBurningStuff Become an Everything Electric Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/fullychargedshow  Buy the Fully Charged Guide to Electric Vehicles & Clean Energy : https://buff.ly/2GybGt0 Subscribe for episode alerts and the Everything Electric newsletter: https://fullycharged.show/zap-sign-up/ Visit: https://FullyCharged.Show Find us on X: https://x.com/Everyth1ngElec Follow us on Instagram: https://instagram.com/officialeverythingelectric To partner, exhibit or sponsor at our award-winning expos email: commercial@fullycharged.show Everything Electric SYDNEY - Sydney Olympic Park 6th, 7th & 8th March 2026 EE NORTH (Harrogate) - 8th & 9th May 2026 EE WEST (Cheltenham) - 12th & 13th June 2026 EE GREATER LONDON (Twickenham) - 11th & 12th Sept 2026 #fullychargedshow #everythingelectricshow #homeenergy #cleanenergy #battery #electriccars #electric-vehicles-uk

Great episode as usual, but profoundly shocking that a forward thinking podcast like this glosses over the huge health hazard of wood burning stoves. The stove industry has learned from the fossil fuel industry spreading disinformation about the toxicity of their products. Even the supposed eco stoves are 18 times more polluting than a diesel truck. That supposed lovely smell is benzene

Here in Alberta, Canada, the provincial government just wants to keep burning fossil fuels, they complain about not wanting solar farms, but will only allow homeowners to only put up enough solar for their own consumption, no off peak metering, no rebate if you buy an EV. I'm beginning to have a rant, like you, Robert. love the show. I'm a long-time subscriber from Western Canada.

Funny thing is for 9 months, you hear the "informed by Facebook et al" moan "you shouldn't load the grid during the day. It can't cope!" and the less informed EV users will comply by charging at night... 😋

Ever heard of a little place called India, Robert? I know that at 1 point something billion people, it's an easy one to miss, but they do drive on the left too mate. You might want to rethink how many people in the world actually drive on the left. There are quite a few of us.
