I’m sharing the replay of my recent Live Q&A session where we dug into all things client retention, communication, and keeping your web design business running smoothly… even when outages hit or the unexpected happens. You’ll hear me break down some of the same strategies I taught at the recent Circle Summit — including how to set boundaries, create repeatable touchpoints, and turn one-time clients into long-term fans. And since we’re heading into Black Friday, I also walk through this ...

We’re getting into all the nerdy, nitty-gritty and specific conversion tips and tricks on this one. Remember, everything you learn here and apply to your site works on client sites making you more and more va...
Happy 5th Birthday Web Designer Pro® 🥳 What started on November 4th, 2020, as a small coaching community for 30+ of my top course students has become a leader in the web design business-coaching space and one of Circle's most highly engaged communities. It's a testament to the AMAZING members who show up every week to help, support, and encourage each other, as web designers at all stages, to grow their web businesses together. It's an honor to lead this thing, and I can safely say – 5 years ...
Design and building websites…that’s the fun part. Managing the project, collecting content, onboarding, handling revisions and feedback…typically, not so much. Which is why, if you can automate as much of the repeatable tasks and make a system and process for the “unfun” parts of a web design project, it’ll make your life much easier and more profitable. That’s what we’re diving into this one with automation and systems specialist (and fellow 17hats user) Kristen Lettini. We get into: Wha...
Being an entrepreneur is challenging. Being a parent-entrepreneur is even more challenging. Being a special needs parent entrepreneur…it’s tough to put into words. But one thing’s for sure, the freedom of schedule and flexible availability, to be able to care for a special needs kiddo as a web designer is UNMATCHED and well worth all the challenges. We’re diving into all of that and more in this special group chat that I had with Marc Hyde, Lisa Dorian and Ed Gomes. All members of Web Design...

Do you find that you no longer fit in with many of your friends when you become an entrepreneur? If so, you’re not alone. In this episode, I’m sharing my take on this common “friendshift” for web design entrepreneurs and it’s based off a recent newsletter from Web Designer Pro member Alexia (of visualvibedesign.com) who shared a very open and honest take on this topic. So in this solo episode, it’s narrative as I’ll read you Alexia’s newsletter and follow up with my take as well on things ...

Ever wondered if you should trademark your business? There are a lot of reasons you may consider it: You may want to sell your business one day.You might want to make sure no one can take your brand name with no grounds for legal action on your end.You might have a productized service or product you want to sell eventually. You may just want full control over your brand as a whole. For all those reasons and more, you might be wondering if you should trademark and what the process is. To help ...
When I began my career in web design, my initial goal was to “get a job” as a web designer for an agency or corporation…until I realized corporate life is NOT for me. But that’s me, I enjoy the world of risk and reward of freelancing and entrepreneurship, whereas the freelance lifestyle is NOT for everyone. So today I’m thrilled to share the conversation I had with Chris Webb, who’s had a long career as a web designer and developer as an agency and corporate web designer. But Chris also does ...
This episode is a conversation I had with Web Designer Pro™ member Whitney Bateson recently on her podcast “The Growth Show” where she helps wellness professionals build and launch a successful online presence. While she picked my brain about current website conversion trends in 2025 mainly to help her clients, we actually talked about some significant, general trends for websites today, for all industries. She graciously let me repurpose the whole conversation for you! If you want to know...
This episode is a recent coaching call I had with two members from my community Web Designer Pro™, all about going full-time with your web design business. Alexia JUST went full-time at the time of publishing this episode and Ben went full-time in Dec of 2024, so it was great hearing both of their perspectives about lessons learned going full-time with them having just done it. What’s particularly of note is the mental shift when opening up an additional 20, 30 or 40 hours a week of freedom...
Great to have Chris “the self-made web designer” back on the podcast! Aside from casual catch-up and web shop talk, we get into where the web industry is today compared to when we first entered the industry years ago. Chris has a unique perspective as a freelance web designer who got most of his work through Upwork, and, with his work with ShowIt, sees a different part of the market than what I often do with WordPress. Head to the show notes to get all links and resources we mentioned, alo...
I just launched a new DNS Course for Web Designers, specifically to help you get a 101, foundational understanding of all things domains, DNS records, email, security, performance, etc. It replaced what was formerly my cPanel course. It’s a short, snappy, “what you need to know” DNS course without getting too technical or overwhelming. In this podcast episode, I’m giving you a little teaser! Included in the episode: A few personal DNS horror stories (to illustrate how important it is to know ...
Repeat guest and founding member of Web Designer Pro™, Marie Brown, is back on the podcast, sharing what’s working for her with getting clients through Instagram. And she offers a much-needed reminder that, even if clients don’t mark down “found you on social media,” it doesn’t mean it’s not working. The more touch points you have and the more you stay top of mind, the more likely you’ll land more clients. Head to the show notes to get all links and resources we mentioned along with a full...
In the Summer of 2020, I made a huge decision…to sell my agency In Transit Studios and go full-time into web design online education. In this episode, I’m reflecting (5 years later) and sharing some lessons learned on the things I would do again and things I’d do differently. Head to the show notes to get all links and resources we mentioned, along with a full transcription of this episode at joshhall.co/391 Get my quote, contract & invoice templates (for free) with a 7-day trial...
If there’s one word that can sum up where the industry of web design is right now in the age of Ai, I’d say it’s “uncertainty.” But uncertainty doesn’t have to be bad. I love talking to people who are excited and optimistic about the road ahead and one of those folks is Web Designer Pro member Antwaun Williams (goes by A-T) A-T is an early adopter of all tech, and when I got a chance to sit down with him in person at our recent WDP CON 2025 event, I learned just how in-the-know he is with t...

Clients are absolutely still investing in high-ticket design packages (both web and branding) that range from 5k, 10k, 20k, 30k +. And to learn about how to structure high-ticket packages and how to sell them, I’m pumped to bring Kenzi Green and Maris Burgett of thebriefcollective.com on the podcast! Hi Josh just wanted to take a moment to leave you an honest review. One of my new year's resolutions for 2022 was to listen to more podcasts, and ever since the beginning of 2022, I have been listening to your podcast consistently. It is quite difficult finding another person who is well versed in both the Divi theme and the business side of website design. Although I've been a self employed WordPress website developer and designer (who specializes in the Divi theme), I'm always open to how I can make my business better. I have gained so many useful insights from listening to your episodes. It's about a 20 - 30 minute commute from my home to my coworking space, and if I get stuck in traffic or something, this creates the perfect opportunity to tune in to your latest episode. Before 2022 ends, I'll be making some adjustments to my overall online business thanks to the beneficial audio content you've put out. Keep doing what you're doing!

I want to say thank you to Josh, primarily for putting the content out that he does on this Podcast. It's helped me maintain excitement for the future in this industry, when it's likely I could have let that fizzle out. Not only has he helped me stay excited and engaged, but I've taken away a lot of awesome nuggets from this show, so again, thank you.

I've been on the fence about making a major change in the way I track data. Like all major changes, I needed to learn more before making my decision. Josh just released a podcast...and BOOM!... the information I had been looking for to help make my decision was right there! Thanks for keeping your tribe informed - you do us all a great service!
