Episode 200: When You Can't Control the Outcome Sometimes the breakthrough isn't that something disappears. Sometimes… it doesn't. In this milestone episode, I share what a recent movie and this season of transition in our family has reminded me about surrender, "even if" faith, and holding grief and gratitude at the same time. You can't control the outcome — but you can anchor your hope. Have you ever felt hidden? Unnoticed? Behind? In this devotional-style episode, Courtney shares a powerful reminder: just because a season feels quiet doesn't mean God is absent. Drawing from Psalm 1, the lives of Elizabeth, Joseph, and even Jesus, Courtney explores how Scripture reframes hidden seasons — not as wasted time, but as preparation time. If you're a mom who feels: unseen in your daily routines forgotten in your prayers behind compared to everyone else stuck in a repetitive season This episode will gently remind you: Roots grow deeper in winter. Fruit comes in season. And nothing surrendered to God is ever wasted. After a few unexpected weeks off the air, The Mom Show is back, and this episode is a heart-to-heart about what happens when life forces a pause. Behind the scenes, technical issues required time, patience, and prayer. At the very same time, our kitchen was being completely remodeled. It was chaotic, inconvenient, and unfinished. And it felt like the perfect metaphor for motherhood. In this comeback episode, Courtney shares what the pause taught her, how resistance can actually be refinement, and why seasons of "demolition" don't mean defeat. If you're in a season where something feels disrupted, delayed, or torn apart, this conversation will remind you that sometimes God is strengthening the foundation before He builds something new. In this episode: Why pauses don't equal failure What resistance can reveal about your calling The motherhood parallels between remodeling and refinement The new rhythm of The Mom Show moving forward What you can expect in this next season This year, you can expect: ✔ Two thoughtful interviews each month ✔ One practical or devotional episode ✔ One lighter, relatable mom-life conversation Some weeks we'll go deep. Some weeks we'll laugh. Some weeks we'll talk about parenting in the digital age, marriage under pressure, adult children, burnout, identity, and faith in the chaos. Because motherhood is layered — and so is this show. If this episode resonates, be sure to subscribe and share it with a mom who may be in her own "remodel" season. Welcome to a new season of The Mom Show.
This episode is a replay of one of our most impactful conversations from 2025, re-released because its message is still needed today. In this powerful and deeply personal episode, Courtney sits down with Cara Shine, a mom, teacher, and believer with a remarkable testimony of finding Jesus in the midst of chaos and fear. Raised in the Jewish faith, Cara spent much of her early life feeling rejected and judged by the Christians around her. The bullying she endured as a child left lasting scars, shaping her view of Jesus and her sense of belonging. But everything changed in the fall of 2002, during the terrifying three-week reign of the DC sniper attacks. As a young mom and schoolteacher paralyzed by anxiety, Cara encountered Christians who showed her the true heart of Christ through love, kindness, and courage. What followed was what she calls a "Holy ripple effect" that transformed her life, her faith, and her purpose. Cara's story is one of redemption, identity, and bold obedience. If you've ever been afraid to share your faith, unsure of how to reflect Jesus to others, or burdened by the actions of those who misrepresented Him, this episode is for you. In this episode, we cover: Cara's early experiences with antisemitism and religious bullying How the 2002 sniper attacks became the turning point in her faith journey The bravery of "quiet Christians" who helped her meet the real Jesus What it looks like to raise children who reflect Christ well How to discern when to speak boldly and when to simply listen The "Holy ripple effect" of living out your faith authentically Encouragement for moms afraid to share their faith Verse Shared: "By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." —John 13:35 (NIV) Connect with Cara: Website~Instagram Connect with Courtney: Website~Instagram~Facebook~MOM 101 Facebook Group

Surrendering Absence, Embracing Presence This year on The Mom Show, we've talked about estranged children, overwhelming diagnoses, addiction, abortion, shame, grief, unmet expectations, and longing. And as I reflected on all of it, a question from a mentor stopped me in my tracks: What is God asking you to surrender, and what is He inviting you to embrace? In this solo episode, I share how God answered that question for me, and how He gently showed me the difference between living in absence and choosing presence. I reflect on the losses I've experienced this year, the temptation to let absence be the loudest voice in our story, and the invitation God keeps extending to remain present with Him, even when answers don't come. We also look to Mary, the mother of Jesus, standing at the foot of the cross. A powerful picture of faith that doesn't fix or flee, but stays. Sometimes faith doesn't look like clarity or strength. Sometimes it looks like presence. This episode is for the mom who is: Ending the year weary Carrying grief or disappointment Feeling overwhelmed by expectations Longing for peace but unsure where to find it You don't have to carry everything into the new year. You're allowed to lay things down. Reflection Question: What is God asking you to surrender? And what is He inviting you to embrace? I pray this episode meets you right where you are—and reminds you that presence is a holy gift. Addiction isn't always what we expect. For Jody Allen, the hidden battle in her marriage wasn't drugs or alcohol—it was pornography. After years of trying to repair and rebuild, Jody made the painful decision to ask her husband to leave. What followed was a long journey through counseling, treatment centers, heartbreak, and ultimately divorce. In today's episode, Jody shares her story as a wife and a mom. What it looked like to protect her kids, wrestle with her own identity, and discover that God's grace is big enough for every kind of brokenness. She reminds us that: You are not defined by someone else's struggles. You don't have to be a perfect mom, your kids need your presence, not perfection. Even when life doesn't turn out the way you hoped, God can still bring something good. If you're walking through addiction in your family, feeling the weight of shame, or wondering how to keep your kids grounded in hope, this conversation will encourage your heart.
