This is my interview with with Matthew Treinish, the architect of Qiskit at IBM Quantum. In this episode, we discussed how IBM is moving beyond the "science fiction" phase of quantum computing into an era of "quantum utility." And, we dove deep into how IBM is using Rust to build a high-performance core for Qiskit.
An interview with Jean-Baptiste Kempf (JBK), CTO of Scaleway, a fast-growing and ambitious public cloud focused on serving the European market. It was fun to ask JBK about the challenges of scaling a massive public cloud in the age of the AI buildout. We also talked about where and why Scaleway is using Rust. And, I learned that JBK is an incredibly prolific engineer and entrepreneur with a deep personal investment in the Rust community.
Many of the most exciting Python tools seem to have something in common: they not so secretly rely on a lot of Rust. For this interview, I talked to Adrian Garcia Badaracco and Peter Lesty of Pydantic. Pydantic is an extremely popular type validation library for Python, but it’s also the name of the company behind the fast-growing observability platform Logfire. We talked about the Rust-accelerated Python trend, how Pydantic is using Rust to build a high performance query engine for Logfire, what it’s like working at Pydantic, and more.
Woven by Toyota is the behind the scenes “tip of the spear” driving technology advancements across the Toyota Group. And, they’re big fans of Rust! Woven, for short, plays a key role in Toyota’s approach to major shifts in the automotive landscape like software-defined vehicles and automated driving. I talked to Pete LeVasseur, Staff Software Engineer, about working at Woven by Toyota, the company’s investment in major Rust community initiatives like the Safety-Critical Rust Consortium, and the outlook for Rust in automotive generally. Pete also made an exciting announcement about Rust going into production at Toyota! Few people have such a deep understanding of the automotive industry and the Rust language. It was a privilege chatting with Pete. To see jobs available at this and other cool rust companies, check out our extensive rust job board.
A conversation with Tom Praderio, Director of Engineering at Parallel. Parallel is building a new system for transporting cargo on existing rail infrastructure. We talked a lot about what Parallel is building. We also talked about the outlook for Rust in the embedded space. And, we talked about what it's like working at Parallel. It was a lot of fun talking to Tom about such an interesting company!
