Founded by John and Jane Sungkamee, the husband-and-wife team behind the legendary Emporium Thai in Westwood which is built upon more than 26 years of cultural stewardship and culinary excellence. First opened in 2000, Emporium Thai has become one of Los Angeles’ most respected Thai institutions. John Sungkamee, Founder & CEO of Emporium Thai and the exciting new Emporium Thai Market, is a restaurateur, entrepreneur, and cultural steward whose career has been defined by honoring tradition while pushing Thai cuisine forward. They are celebrating 26 years this March and they are also participating in this year's Masters of Taste. Every dollar raised at the 2026 Masters of Taste event will benefit the work of Union Station Homeless Services (Union Station), a local organization successfully fighting to end homelessness. Over the last seven years, Masters of Taste has impressively raised over $3.5 Million, helping countless families and individuals find a secure and welcoming place to call home.  See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Happy Valentine's Day!! If you want to avoid the crowds and chaos, Neil has the perfect simple snacks you and your lover can make right at home. (even if your lover is you)See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
So sad about James Van Der Beek’s death this week at the age of 48 from colorectal cancer. He left behind a wife and six kids. A GoFundMe page was set up, and it’s doing really well, topping $2.5 million in two days. And now there’s blowback due to its success, with people calling the Van Der Beek widow to sell their mansion instead. But it turns out, Van Der Beek was paying for his own cancer treatment out of pocket. Shannon of Gary and Shannon fame thinks Merrill might be a serial killer. There’s no evidence to suggest otherwise. What was your favorite Super Bowl ad? Merrill most liked the ad for Ring doorbell cameras about the lost dog. But many felt that ad was kinda creepy – who wants our doorbells to join forces to spy on us and report us to the cloud? It’s an invasion of privacy! And yet, why hasn’t Ring found Nancy Guthrie? Now, another person has been detained in the Nancy Guthrie case, bringing it to three people detained this evening. A written statement is incoming. Forlorn and looking for love around Valentine’s Day? If anyone likes you around this time of year, unfortunately they’re likely a scammer. So be careful on those dating apps! Should Merrill do a nooner? He’s fleshing it out right now! Apparently, we’re not doing it enough. A sex therapist says we’re not having enough sex. Testosterone is plummeting and we’re all getting lonely.   See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Mayor Karen Bass is in the literal hotseat. The fire after-action report is out, and she whitewashed it, altering and softening the report in a bid to suggest everything was under control during the disastrous LA wildfires of January 2025. She’s now denied the media’s access to her and the fire chief in a bid to control the narrative. The Monks & Merrill Show hits airwaves next week! How long do your hangovers last? Do you lose a day like so many of us? Merrill likes to go home and have what he calls a jigger, which usually involves a single malt of whisky. You think you’re living in a town that’s safe, but not if that town is... Culver City. Attorney General Pam Bondi thinks it’s one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in LA. Spoiler: It’s not. Listener Talkbacks largely disagree with AG Bondi’s summation of Culver City as dangerous. What’s with the darkness spreading in LA? Apparently organized crime is behind the streetlights being stripped of copper wire, so we’re getting a taskforce to speed up repairs.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
