It's the Grateful Dead episode! The first week of April 1989 was an insane week indeed in Ann Arbor. Michigan won the National Championship in basketball and a chaotic celebration ensued across campus, but on top of that there was a hash bash, and The Grateful Dead rolling into town for a two night stint at Crisler Arena. All in the space of 6 days. The defending Big Ten Champion Michigan Football team had a practice at Michigan Stadium that week, which had the Wolverines walking from the football building off of State Street across the train tracks and through the Crisler parking lot which was already filled with Deadheads. You can only imagine what this could lead to....Doug Cohen, Hail Media co-founder and host of the Maize and Blue Mixtape takes us back to that time when he was a freshman outside linebacker on the team and is joined by two of his teammates Barry Kelley and Paul Manning to get a couple of stories of what happened. He is also joined by a Deadhead and new friend Andrew David of the Metro Detroit Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia tribute bands Deadicated (https://www.facebook.com/Deadicated.us) and The Mighty Swells (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61552522105465) respectively, whose very first Dead show was that second night at Crisler! We talk about those shows, the band, some of our favorite shows, the Deadhead community and more!Hail 〽️ediaOur Stories. Our University. Our Team.#gratefuldead #shakedownstreet #deadheads #jerrygarcia #michigan #michiganfootball #michiganwolverines #annarbor #universityofmichigan #music #counterculture #music #hailmedia #boschembechler #goblue
