Even before the mountain began to rumble, one mortal had begun to doubt his decadent gods. Genre: Mythology Excerpt:We are descended from a powerful people. So it is said. The most powerful our world has ever known. Their might unmatched. Their domain unending. Their eyes all-seeing. I am nothing next to them. I am a blade of grass underfoot. A mayfly blinking in and out of existence. A mortal. But today I will discover if there are forces in the world mightier than the gods. For today is the day I bring them down. The Wheel of Fiction Turns. What did it land on this time? Each Season 9 story follows a theme chosen by the Wheel of Fiction. Thirteen spokes. Eight are the themes from previous seasons. One is "Turn Again." One is a wild card. And three are covered in question marks and will be revealed when the wheel lands on them. See a story trailer and a (satisfying) video of the wheel turning here: Forge of the Forsaker This episode landed on REVISITATION. I'm revisiting a theme from earlier stories, mortal defying the gods. Find more stories and episodes that revisit previous stories here: Year of Revisitation. Glowing yellow spikes of light emanate from the fist. The left arm is bent in front, gripping a chain that is connected to the waist. Through the smoke, more chains are just visible attached to the waist. Glowing streams of lava and gray-white smoke run down the rock face around the figure. Watermark of "Storyfeather" on rock face along the raised arm.
Troubled by the tragic tale of a queen, who suffered because of a quarrel between two gods, three children question and alter the story. Genre: Mythology Excerpt:For the thing that lurched from shadow to shadow had been summoned by godly powers and imbued with godly powers. As it passed, it left behind a trail of slime that smelled of sulfur and rot. So the guards had no trouble in finding it. What they could not do was stop it. The Wheel of Fiction Turns. A creature with the front half of a woman and the bottom half of a shark. She's underwater. Foreground, a disembodied eye trailing a nerve stalk lies on the floor of the body of water in which the creature is floating. She faces forward with both hands planted on the floor as if doing a push-up. Her right eye is missing. The socket bleeds. Her open mouth is filled with shark's teeth, and part of a second mouth appears to be growing out of her first and under her right cheek. She wears gold jewelry, metal cuffs, and a scarf wrapped upon her head that flutters slightly in the water. Her tail is visible bending towards the right. Watermark of "Storyfeather" along edge of tail fin.
A philosopher, a mage, and a swordsman are sent on an impossible quest from which they know they will not return alive. Genre: Mythology Excerpt:The philosopher felt her heart go still. She felt the cold steel of the swordsman's sword quivering by her right side. She felt the warm spark of the mage's magic prickling by her left side. In that moment, and none other since, she had wished her friends would unleash their might and fury… The Wheel of Fiction Turns. Facing forward stands a creature with three dog-like heads with different fur colors. All the snouts are contracted as if growling, mouths parted, revealing fangs. All ears are perked up. A forked tongue emerges from the head at right. Snake-like fangs drip a drop of venom from the head at left. Behind and above the heads, an armored segmented body is visible extending up out of frame. Extending down from top left of frame is a segmented spiked tail curling upward. Behind the creature is the opening of a cave. Rectangular image is made square with top and bottom borders that reflect blurred versions of the faces in the main image. Watermark of "Storyfeather" on cave wall, along right side of torso.
The story is told of how nine little gods came to be honored at a feast where they dared not show their faces. Genre: Mythology Excerpt:The new mortal-made masks were so fantastical and magical that they could not easily be distinguished from the masks of the gods. A few called it blasphemy. (For we humans can be fools this way, don't you agree? Seeking and seeking for wonder, and fearing it when we find it.) The Wheel of Fiction Turns. In a realm cursed to lie under a gray veil, one man accepts a job patrolling a neighborhood to watch for unauthorized breaches. Genre: Fantasy Excerpt:He had given up on his childhood fantasy when he realized that people had already found ways to break the curse, and had tried those ways and failed. He had given up when he learned that some of the ways had never been tried and never would be, because the cost was too high. And over the generations, more and more people believed that the gray veil was a blessing, not a curse. A protection, not an oppression. The Wheel of Fiction Turns. The terrifying night phantoms that haunt a once-forbidden wood are never seen by day, until one morning when an ordinary man encounters a phantom trapped in the sunlight. Genre: Fantasy, Mythology Excerpt:Something terrible had come into the world. Something evil. Invisible, intangible. Some corruption that could not be perceived. And therefore could not be fought. By the time it had a grip on someone, it was too late. The corruption seeped into every part of that person, defiling their heart, twisting their thoughts, draining the very life out of their body. No land was spared. No person was spared, no matter how pure, how honorable, how fit of body, how courageous of heart. No place was hidden from this corruption. The Wheel of Fiction Turns. A person struggling with heartbreak is drawn into the history of a garden filled with morbid beauty. Genre: Fantasy Excerpt:Branches terminating in skulls. Transparent petals whose vessels glow white as bleached bone in the dark. Bright yellow leaves whose soft serrated edges exude a dark red liquid that drips and pools and stains the ground like the signs of a crime scene. Such sights could I have seen in the greenhouse of gruesome growths. The courtyard of the maverick alchemist. The garden of the peculiar. The Wheel of Fiction Turns. An uncertified magician, who's not allowed to cast enchantments in the city proper, finds odd jobs to do in the outer city. Genre: Fantasy Excerpt:I got into this business at the wrong time. Now that huge factories could crank out standardized magic components that anyone could use, without even a basic understanding of the primary forces and how to shape them, not too many people were interested in "hand-crafted artisan" magic. That's what the kids called it now. In my grandpa's day, it was just called…magic. The Wheel of Fiction Turns. A dog and a boy wander through a carnival. One of them is terrifying. One of them is sweet. Guess which is which. Genre: Fantasy Excerpt:"There's a pit bull in the ball pit!" someone cried. The children saw Angel, and they began to flee. Angel opened his mouth enough to bare his teeth, but not enough to use those teeth. Children screamed and flapped their arms and were pulled up out of the pit by the scruff of their shirts. Little Sam was somehow oblivious to the mayhem. The Wheel of Fiction Turns. The dog-like body is sitting up. The fish-like head is turned to the side with mouth open, displaying piranha teeth and a pointy outstretched tongue. The creature's eyes are red. It has a long tail bearing fins, ending in a caudal fin. The creature wears a studded collar with a tag that reads "Angel." Behind them is the hazy shape of a Ferris wheel with glowing lights. Watermark of "Storyfeather" along the boy's right side.
A folklorist is swept up in a journey to find the proof that supports her seemingly preposterous notion about porcupines and fairy tales. Genre: Fairy Tale Excerpt:Tommie's conjecture concerned the many fairy tales where a sudden growth of thorny vines encompassed a tower or a castle to protect, or more likely imprison, a young woman possessing some degree of power—a princess of surpassing beauty, say, or a sorceress. That growth was typically attributed to a magic spell cast by an evil witch or jealous warlock. Tommie allowed that magic and wickedness may have been involved, or not. Either way, the wild thorny thickets that held back princes were cast out by a creature. "Have you ever heard of the prickly vine porcupine?" The Wheel of Fiction Turns. Genre: Science Fiction, Fantasy Excerpts: They were right all along. "What do they know that we don't know?" "What are they trying to protect us from?" "This is my home too! And it is in danger…" "If the law won't help us, we'll have to turn to…the outlaw." What story or stories am I revisiting in this episode? Each Season 8 episode is a standalone story, but it's connected to or inspired by a previous story through a character, a place, an object, a concept, a continuation of events (ahem, sequel), and so on. The kids who wrote an original play for a school production are now aiming to make a movie with an original script over their summer vacation. Somehow the theme is again about an alien invasion. I'm really enjoying this collection of stories. It's impressive that so many storylines come from one imagination. Great work!
Your stories are inspirational. I am transported to the world of your tales as I listen to your voice. I listen to this podcast, as it is my favorite, whenever I can. Your form of story-telling is one that is unique and just flat out amazing. I feel something move within me as the narrative begins. This is truly something else. You are one-of-a-kind. I do hope that you continue recording your stories. I think that everyone should try listening to Story Feather. They’ll be hooked by the first episode, as I was. Thank You!!!
soon please, ♡
Yay, I adore this podcast and your beautiful way of storytelling. Thank you! please be encouraged and continue doing what you do because your words and craft work are artwork and spirit forms in a way that inspire and bless, so please be blessed as well in your endeavors and life, what you do has a wonderful and powerful effects to help mend the heart and heal from a way of manifesting creatively in which your creations have a way of objectively and abstractly manifesting and creating things outside the known or intended and this is where the reflection and intent of someone is made known, their heart shows true in some ways and the seeds of your hope become the same for others. Thank you for peace and hope and for the veil of the unknown to be shared from some of your imaginative and beautiful constructs that keep growing and giving and being more than you may ever know or ever dream, all because you are and do and bring something to this life and experience that is so pure and brave
I tried to listen to this but this woman's William Shatner impression style of storytelling isn't something I can take seriously.
