Description

Zane Hodges Library features messages on the Bible by Zane C. Hodges. Zane ministered at Dallas Theological Seminary for 27 years as Professor of New Testament. Zane also ministered at Victor Street Bible Chapel in Dallas, Texas for over 50 years and published a number of books focusing on the free gift of eternal life by faith alone in Jesus Christ alone and on the opportunities for eternal rewards for believers. Zane was involved with the founding of the Grace Evangelical Society, served on its board of directors, and wrote and spoke for GES. Zane was known for his faithfulness to the text of the Bible through study and prayer. His life reflected a biblical joyful living faith, as he was a friend and minister to many from all walks of life and all ages.

Zane desired for others to know and believe in Jesus for the absolutely free gift of eternal life. As Jesus said, "Amen, amen, I tell you, whoever believes in Me has eternal life." (John 6:47)

Zane also desired for believers to grow and endure in their faith, so that believers may have the privilege of co-reigning with the Lord Jesus Christ. In 2 Timothy 2:17, believers are told, "If we suffer, we shall also reign with him."

In this final video on the relationship of repentance to forgiveness, Zane Hodges looks at how repentance is integral in the life of a believer, one who already has everlasting life through believing in Jesus for the gift of everlasting life. Zane demonstrates how forgiveness is different for the gift of everlasting life, and how forgiveness and restoration to fellowship is repeatedly needed in the Christian life. Zane looks at the issues of how Palestinian Jews alive during the time of Jesus had the special requirement of water baptism, not for eternal life, but to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, forgiveness of sins, and fellowship with God. Zane also examines briefly, the concept of positional forgiveness that a believer has in Jesus Christ. In this second message on the nature and results of repentance. Zane Hodges demonstrates biblically how repentance is not a requirement for the reception of everlasting life, but a requirement to avoid the temporal judgment of God. Zane gives further examples of believers in Jesus who needed to repent to avoid the temporal judgment of God. Jonah 3 Luke 3:3-14 Revelation 9:20-21 Revelation 16:10-11 Job 1:20-22 Job 2:4-10, 12-13 Job 32:1-5 Job 34:5-9, 34-37 Job 42:1-10 Revelation 2-3 Luke 15 www.ZaneHodges.org
In this first of three messages on the subject of Repentance, Zane Hodges looks at the meaning of repentance and asks the question whether repentance is a condition for receiving salvation or eternal life. Among Free Grace circles, repentance is popularly defined as a change of mind and is a requirement for salvation. However, is this definition and requirement biblical? Hodges demonstrates that repentance is properly understood as a turning from sins and repentance is not a requirement for salvation. Luke 8:19-25  Who Am I? Who Is He? Zane C. Hodges (1989) A very real spiritual identity crisis often lies at the root of the frustrations and failures that we experience in Christian living. Sometimes under the pressures of life, we forget who Jesus is and what He is like. We forget the greatness of His power, the sufficiency of His strength, the abundance of His mercy and the plenitude of His grace, and Jesus becomes like a stranger. Jesus Christ has everything we could possibly need or want and yet He is always right there right besides us. The shortest way to the end of our frustrations, difficulties and perplexities, is the companionship and friendship and the presence and power of Jesus Christ, the Almighty Son of God. The Lord Jesus Christ gives Himself to us first as our Savior when we trust Him for that, and then as we learn to obey Him, as our Brother, our Companion and our Friend.
In this message given at the 1997 Grace Evangelical Society National Conference, Zane C. Hodges explores the following questions and topics: What is the difference between saving faith and assurance? Why is the nature of the gospel message, such that when a person believes the biblical gospel, he necessarily has the assurance of eternal salvation? If a person is not assured of his eternal salvation, then that person is not believing the gospel message of eternal life. Believing something false never saved anybody, although believing a falsehood may give false assurance. What is saving faith? Is it a persuasion or a decision? Most false professions are made when the decision/process precedes the persuasion. What does it mean to believe that Jesus is the Christ? It means that Jesus is the guarantor of resurrection and eternal life to everyone who believes in Him. At the moment of saving faith, the believer is sure that he is eternally saved.
