In this episode, Kristin is joined by Sam Fischer—wife, mom, proud Texan, and owner of Mother of Wilde—to share the story of her daughter, Abby Grace. Sam opens up about their unexpected diagnosis of bilateral renal agenesis, the precious time she shared with Abby, and the profound grief that followed. Sam shares how isolation during early COVID exposed long-held insecurities and invited her into an intimate, refining season with the Lord. Together, Kristin and Sam talk about trusting God when He doesn't intervene, learning to read Scripture through the lens of eternity, and discovering that only Christ can truly heal us in our grief. If you find yourself in a lonely season today, we pray you would experience the comfort of Christ's presence and know that even in isolation, you are never truly alone. Grief has a way of leaving us especially vulnerable to lies of shame, lies about God's character, lies that minimize the magnitude of our loss, and lies that tell us we're a burden. In this episode, Brooke Schuelke, Kelly Ransdell, and Kristin Hernandez talk openly about the common lies many women face after the loss of a baby and how we can learn to discern truth from deception. Drawing from Scripture and personal experience, they explore why grief exposes us to accusations of blame and distorted views of God, and how the truth of God's Word equips us to confront those accusations with confidence. Together, they address specific lies such as: "This is my fault," "My body failed," "God is punishing me," "I should be over this by now," and "My grief is a burden to others" and share life-giving truth to counter each one. This conversation gently reminds grieving moms that their loss was not their fault and that God has not abandoned them. Church can be one of the hardest places to be when you're grieving—and yet, it can be one of the most vital. In this conversation, Kristin sits down with author and pastor Eric Schumacher to talk honestly about when church feels hard, especially after loss. Together they explore why gathering with believers can stir both comfort and pain, how shame often gets tangled up with sorrow in church settings, and what helps us keep showing up when it would be easier to stay home. Eric shares from his own experience of pastoring through grief and reminds us of the beauty of being part of Christ's body—even when (or especially when) our hearts feel heavy. They also discuss: The importance of hearing others sing, pray, and confess when we're hurting How baptism and communion point us back to our hope in Christ Practical ways churches can better care for grieving families What it means to be "saved into a family" rather than a solo faith If being in church feels especially tender right now, this episode is for you. May it remind you that Jesus has not given up on His Church, no matter how difficult things may appear. Losing a baby doesn't just break your heart—it can shake your sense of who you are. In this episode, Jennie Parks and Kristin Hernandez discuss the ways miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss often reshape our sense of identity. Together, we reflect on the "before loss" and "after loss" versions of ourselves—the parts we miss, the growth we've seen, and the good fruit God has brought from deep sorrow. We talk honestly about the pain of change—how loss can affect our relationships, personality, confidence, and even our walk with the Lord—and how, even in all that shifting, our identity in Christ never changes. With Scripture and personal reflection, Jennie and Kristin remind us that while grief may change aspects of who we are, it doesn't change whose we are. The Christmas season can feel especially tender for a mom who has lost her baby. In this episode, Brooke Schuelke, Jennie Parks, and Kristin Hernandez talk about walking through Advent—a season of longing and hope. Finding reasons to be thankful in the middle of suffering isn't easy. In this episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, Kristin Hernandez is joined by author and Hope Mom Allison Brost to talk about what it looks like to cultivate gratitude. Allison shares the story of her son Solomon, who went to be with the Lord in 2018, and reflects on how her journey through loss has shaped her relationship with the Lord. Together, they discuss the tension of holding sorrow and thankfulness at the same time, the importance of authentic community, and how God redeems even the broken pieces of our stories. Allison also shares practical ways to nurture a heart of gratitude—including honesty with God, surrender, and remembering His goodness. Whether you're navigating deep grief, struggling to find thankfulness in hard seasons, or simply wanting to root your heart in gratitude, this conversation offers encouragement and hope. This Thanksgiving, we hope you're reminded that gratitude doesn't ignore pain—it transforms it. Allison Brost is an author and independent singer/songwriter from Janesville, Wisconsin. She loves to share daily encouragement online for those journeying in their faith over at This Side of Perfect. Kristin Hernandez is joined by Ryan and Jessica McDaniel, licensed professional counselors and founders of McDaniel Counseling, to talk about intimacy, sex, and marriage after the loss of a baby. Drawing from over 15 years of professional counseling experience as well as their own story of loss, Ryan and Jessica offer compassionate, God-centered wisdom for navigating this deeply personal area of marriage. Ryan and Jessica remind us that intimacy is so much more than physical connection—it's knowing and being known, both by our spouse and by God who sees us intimately. Together, we explore practical tools for couples facing misaligned desires, navigating feelings of emotional and physical disconnection, and receiving support from trusted advisors. While this episode may be slightly more PG than our usual content, this topic is handled with the utmost respect, biblical hope, and a heart for helping married couples take steps toward the healing only God can provide. October 15 is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day—a day of remembrance, but also a day to consider how God can bring eternal impact out of even the shortest lives. In this episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, host Kristin Hernandez is joined by fellow hope mom Kristin Jackson to talk about the power of our stories and how the Lord can use them as a platform for sharing the gospel. Kristin Jackson shares the story of her daughter, Abigail Faith, and how God has used the story of her life to bring hope to others. Together, Kristin and Kristin reflect on how God comforts us in our sorrow and equips us to extend that comfort to others. They discuss the many ways our babies' lives can point to Jesus—sometimes quietly within our own homes and sometimes more publicly—and how moms can thoughtfully and gently, yet boldly share their testimonies of Christ's work in their lives. This conversation offers biblical encouragement, practical ideas, and grace-filled reminders that whether or not we share publicly, God is always at work in and through our stories. October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month—a special time to remember and honor our Hope Babies, share our stories, and shine the light of Christ into the darkness. But what is the purpose of remembrance? What does Scripture teach us about it? And how might we remember not only our babies, but also all that God has done for us? In this episode of the Hope Mommies Podcast, Kristin Hernandez and Jennie Parks reflect on the significance of remembrance—not only as a way to honor and cherish our children, but also as a way to recall God's goodness and faithfulness in the midst of grief. Together, they explore biblical examples of remembrance, from the memorial stones in Joshua 4 to the observance of holy days and practices like communion. Kristin and Jennie also share personal rhythms of remembrance, such as journaling, prayer, setting up "memorial stones," telling stories, and celebrating anniversaries. You'll also hear practical ways to commemorate this month, including resources offered by Hope Mommies throughout October. No matter how you choose to walk through this month, our prayer is that you would feel the nearness of our loving Father as you remember. No parent is prepared to hear that their baby's life will likely be far shorter than they imagined. For families walking through a life-limiting diagnosis, pregnancy can become a season of both deep sorrow and deep love. In this episode, Kristin Hernandez is joined by Matt and Taylor Walker, Directors of Family Care at Abel Speaks, to talk about the unique challenges—and unexpected joys—of carrying a baby with a life-limiting diagnosis. Matt and Taylor share the story of their son, Copeland, who was diagnosed with trisomy 18 and lived for 55 precious minutes after birth. They reflect on how God met them in their pain, what prayer looked like in that season, and how their faith was ultimately strengthened through their loss. They also offer practical wisdom for families preparing to welcome a child with a life-limiting diagnosis and share about their current work with Abel Speaks, a ministry that walks alongside parents navigating the same journey. If you or someone you love is facing a prenatal diagnosis, this conversation offers compassion, encouragement, and the reminder that every life—no matter how brief—is deeply valuable and worthy of being cherished. Matt and Taylor Walker live in Oklahoma with their two children, Vera (8) and Jack (4). Their middle child, Copeland, was born in 2019 and lived a brief but deeply impactful life with Trisomy 18. Together, Matt and Taylor serve as Directors of Family Care at Abel Speaks, where they count it a privilege to walk alongside families navigating the heartbreak of a life-limiting diagnosis. Grieving the loss of a baby while caring for young children at home can feel overwhelming. In this episode, Kristin Hernandez is joined by Jennie Parks and Julie Lehman to discuss what it looks like to walk through grief while also parenting living children. We talk about tending to our own sorrow while helping children navigate theirs, talking about death and heaven in age-appropriate ways, and resources that were helpful. If you're parenting through grief, we hope this conversation reminds you that you don't have to do it perfectly. You don't have to have all the right answers. How do we face emotions like fear and anger in a way that honors God? And how do we carry the weight of those emotions without letting go of our grip on Christ? In this episode, Kristin sits down with author, Bible teacher, and fellow Hope Mom Courtney Reissig to talk about repeated griefs, high-risk pregnancies, and learning to express deep emotions in a way that draws us closer to God. Both share their personal stories of extended hospital bedrest following previous loss—journeys that ended in celebration yet were marked by uncertainty and wrestling. Together, we explore: What it's like to live in the tension of hope and heartbreak How to process painful emotions in a godly and honest way The example of Christ–Who expressed human emotion How the Psalms can teach us to pray, lament, and trust The unchanging nature of Christ in the face of life's uncertainties What it looks like to choose not to walk away from God—even when it's hard Courtney also shares about her upcoming book, Someone to Believe In, which invites readers to cling to the steadfast character of Jesus when everything else feels unsteady. Courtney Reissig is an author and Bible teacher living in Little Rock, Arkansas. Host Kristin Hernandez welcomes Ashley Opliger—founder and executive director of Bridget's Cradles—to share how God lovingly draws near in our grief, cradling us in hope as He cradles our babies in heaven. Ashley tells the story of her daughter Bridget, who was stillborn in 2014, and how her loss became the catalyst for a ministry that now provides handmade cradles to bereaved families across the country. Together, Kristin and Ashley talk about bringing our raw emotions to Jesus, the danger of letting feelings define our view of God, and the vital need for sound theology in sorrow. They also discuss Ashley's new book, Cradled in Hope: Trusting Jesus to Heal Your Heart as He Holds Your Baby in Heaven—a biblical guide for grieving miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss. Ashley is married to Matt and is the mother of three—one daughter in heaven and two sons on earth. After Bridget was stillborn at 24 weeks, Ashley left her career as a speech-language pathologist to launch Bridget's Cradles. In addition to leading this ministry, she also hosts the Cradled in Hope podcast. In her free time, she enjoys making memories with family and friends, being outside, playing her electric drums, and studying scripture. P.S. Ashley Opliger is also our 2026 retreat speaker! Join us at our annual Hope Mommies Retreat February 27 - March 1 in Giddings, Texas. Registration opens October 1. "In losing my three sweet babies, I was not left empty-handed. God filled my hands with his own nail-pierced hands. He met me in my grief and sat with me in the ashes. He will do this for you, too. You can know him–your suffering Savior. To know him more is to treasure him more. Jesus is not a consolation prize for the loss of your unborn babies.. He is the prize–the Treasure that surpasses all other treasures." - Brittany Allen, Lost Gifts In this tender and truth-filled conversation, Brittany Allen joins Kristin Hernandez to share her story of recurrent miscarriage and the deep comfort she has found in treasuring Christ above all else. Together, we explore why our culture often minimizes early pregnancy loss, and how we can better reflect God's heart through the language we use and the way we care for grieving mothers and fathers. With gospel-centered hope, Brittany reminds us that our highest purpose isn't found in motherhood, but in glorifying God—and that in our suffering, we're invited into deeper intimacy with the Savior who meets us in our sorrow. This episode is a compassionate companion for anyone grieving a miscarriage or stillbirth, or walking alongside someone who is. You'll be reminded that your baby's life matters, your grief matters, and most of all, Christ is near. Brittany Allen is a wife to James and a mom to two boys as well as three babies lost to miscarriage. She's the author of Lost Gifts: Miscarriage, Grief, and the God of All Comfort (Lexham Press) and Free to Weep: Finding the Courage to Grieve and Embracing the God Who Heals, set to release April 2026 with Moody Publishers. Ashlee Schmidt joins Kristin Hernandez for a conversation about drawing near to God in prayer and trusting His love and sovereignty through the journey of pregnancy after loss. Ashlee vulnerably shares her story of losing two babies and navigating the high-risk pregnancy that followed, and how God taught her to lean on Him in the midst of grief, fear, and uncertainty. Together, Kristin and Ashlee introduce Hope Mommies' newest Hope Group study, designed to walk alongside women navigating pregnancy after loss through the framework of the Lord's Prayer. Whether you're in this season yourself or simply seeking to know God more deeply, we invite you to join us as we reflect on the beauty of calling God our Father, trusting His plan in difficult times, anticipating His Kingdom, and living in the freedom of forgiveness. Ashlee and her husband, Jesse, live in Milwaukee with their children—five on earth and two in heaven.
