Welcome to 19Stories: from Fear to Hope. I'm your host, Cheryl Holling, in this podcast we explore stories of resilience, transformation, and the courage to step into new beginnings. My guest today is Amy Bolduc, a woman whose life beautifully weaves together compassion, creativity, and community. After years in her hometown of Brunswick, Maine, Amy relocated to Virginia—a move inspired by her desire for a longer growing season and a fresh chapter in life. She shares her home with a rescue dog, two cats, and a flock of chickens while balancing her work in healthcare, her award-winning podcast 'Grounded in Maine', and her small-batch jam business, aptly named 'Amy's Garden Jam'. Amy is also a contributing author to Breaking the Silence, Volume 3, an anthology that uplifts survivors' voices and offers readers the strength of shared healing. I first met Amy through the New England Podcasters Group, founded by the always-inspiring Ande Lyons, where I quickly came to admire Amy's warmth, authenticity, and the powerful way she uses her involvement with the New England Podcasters community. In today's conversation, you'll hear about what motivated Amy's move, how sustainability fuels her work, her role in Breaking the Silence, and the many ways she stays grounded while inspiring others to do the same. In this podcast, I talk with artists, actors, musicians, writers, coaches, and creative pioneers as they share personal, powerful, and often humorous stories of facing adversity and the wisdom they gleaned in the process. I started this podcast back in 2020 as a way to connect with fellow creatives during a time of fear and uncertainty. Five years later, I'm still sharing stories of creativity, resilience, reinvention, and hope. My guest today is a true renaissance woman who embodies all of these attributes as she wears many hats— and does so extremely well. Nancy May is the founder and President of The BoardBench Companies, LLC, a female-owned board governance consulting group focusing on the advanced development and execution of public, private and not-for-profit board organization, company board quality, board succession and director placement. She is a Member of the Board, Nature Coast Council for the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay and is listed in Who's Who of Global Business Leaders and has been a guest lecturer for business and professional organizations. As the CEO and co-founder of CareManity, and creator and host of the award-winning podcast Eldercare Success, Nancy is a dedicated caregiver advocate, and author of How to Survive 911 Medical Emergencies: Step-by-Step Before, During, After!. Her most recent publication is of the beautifully illustrated book My Family Tree, Food & Stories, which she co-authored with Sylvia Lovely. The book celebrates the deep connections between food, memory, and family. Nancy and Sylvia now co-host the companion podcast of the same name that was inspired by their best-selling book; which happens to be a 50 Over 50 Podcaster Award Winner. Something Nancy and I share in common. Nancy is a woman of deep wisdom, generosity, and inspiration and it's my honor to welcome Nancy May to 19Stories. It's not often that I'll get to introduce a guest whose moniker is "banana-brained and voice-trained"! But joining me today is a woman who is the embodiment of quirkiness, versatility, and her own words "a bit unhinged". From clown noses to stage and to your favorite streaming platforms, Jo Yuan has covered a lot of ground...and that's saying something given she's been in the entertainment industry just shy of 6 years, and in voiceover for five of those years. She's made audiences laugh, cry while pondering social biases through the roles and characters she's played, whether it's in a packed house, on a TV set, or through your earbuds while narrating the Harper Collins' audiobook Counterattacks at Thirty. An Asian American actor of Chinese, Taiwanese, and Korean heritage, Jo's career spans theatre, television, voiceover, and comedy, and brings authenticity, wit, and heart to every role. She's trained in the Meisner technique, on-camera acting, clown and sketch comedy to long-form improv, as a graduate of the now defunct Second City Conservatory, in Hollywood. Her stage work includes performances at East West Players, IAMA Theatre, Artists at Play, and as a company member of PlayGround-LA. As a voice actor, Jo's credits read like a streaming guide - with an impressive list of dubbing credits, lead and recurring roles on Netflix, Disney+, Paramount+, and Amazon Prime and Nat Geo. In 2024, Jo was named one of 24 New Digital Audio Narrators by Macmillan Audio, selected from over 350 applicants. Jo is also a proud and active member of the Television Academy, the Asian American Theatre Artists Collective, and the century old Los Angeles Breakfast Club, to name a few. In addition, she is my fellow Door Builder in the Building Doors VO Campaign! From the stage to the booth, Jo's work is a testament to the power of curiosity, craft, and connection. If you're tuning in for the first time, welcome, and to my longtime listeners, you know that throughout the years you've heard me interview some of the most iconic voices behind your favorite commercials, video games, documentaries, etc... But today, I'm pulling back the curtain on a voice that gets much less exposure—but is crucial to running a successful voiceover business as she's the Unsung Hero of a Voiceover Virtuoso who's all about the business of sound! Sandra Russell may not be a name that you're familiar with, or have a voice you recognize—but her fingerprints are all over the success of one of the top voices in the VO industry; that of her multi award-winning husband Ian Russell, aka The British Voice, who as a side note, joined me as a guest on my other podcast, 'The Voice Kitchen: where recipes and voice talent blend! Where he shared his recipe of a very British staple, Raised Pork Pie. Sand ra joins me today to talk about what it's like being a voiceover wife and mum and how she's applied her education and business acumen to being Ian's business manager and creative consultant. Add to the mix, the award-winning voiceover careers of their two daughters, Eva and Lauren, and occasionally when Sandra steps in front of the mic, and you've got quite the family affair! We'll hear how a Christmas present for a one-day class, launched a lucrative international voiceover career for Ian, to co-running a thriving studio from their family home. Sandra's story is one of quiet leadership, business savvy, and possessing a keen eye for the right opportunity. Someone we'd all be so lucky to have in our corner, no matter what creative endeavor we're pursuing. Join me as I welcome Sandra Russell to 19Stories. Today marks a very special anniversary in that on June 28th 2020, a year we definitely all remember, I launched this podcast as a way of initially addressing and combating the fear so many creatives were feeling during the pandemic by talking about the tools and or faith they used to move into Hope. These days, I'm still talking with creatives in all mediums about challenges they've faced while celebrating their successes and offering some pearls of wisdom for listeners to implement into their own lives. Speaking of which, I'd like to give a huge thank you to the listeners in the following countries, who as of this date, have downloaded '19Stories' close to 11,000 times; the United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Canada, Australia, China, Norway, France, Bangladesh, Spain, Japan, India, Mexico, Kenya, Germany, Switzerland, Hungary and Tunisia. I'd like to give a special thanks to my incredible guests that have been so generous in sharing their stories over these past 5 years. Your trust and openness have been the heartbeat of this podcast. So, here's to you, and to us, and to many more years of '19Stories: from Fear to Hope'. Thank you for being a part of my podcasting journey. And remember, Like, Follow and share, and of course, stay healthy and Hopeful! If you enjoyed this episode, make sure to follow 19 Stories wherever you listen to your favorite podcasts. You may have heard me quote a former acting coach a time or two on this podcast, that "if you want to bring life into your characters, you have to first live a life in order to have something to pour onto the stage, screen or microphone." I'd say the same holds true for any good author or storyteller. Today, I'm incredibly honored to have as my guest, Alex Poppe, the multi-award-winning author renowned for her compelling literary fiction that delves into themes of resilience, identity, and social justice. After graduating at the top of her university's undergraduate business school, Alex began her professional career as a business analyst for Mobile Oil and quickly became disenchanted with the corporate culture after, she, and I quote, "hit my head too many times on the glass ceiling and exchanged my corporate life to pursue an artistic one." Poppe moved to New York to enroll in the 'Circle in the Square's' two-year professional actor training program. It's where Alex honed her observation skills and enabled her to quickly identify and address individual student learning challenges after she quit her acting pursuits, got certified to Teach English as a Second Language, moved to Poland for her first teaching assignment, and then eventually to the Middle East spending almost a decade there as an educator in several prestigious public and private universities. Her experience as an actor, world traveler, humanitarian aid worker and educator in war-torn conflict zones, before coming back stateside to work for USAID, is what Alex pours onto the page. Alex joins me today to talk about her forthcoming memoir, Breakfast Wine: A Memoir of Chasing an Unconventional Life and Finding a Way Home, which chronicles her transformative journey from that disillusioned corporate professional in the U.S. to an educator navigating cultural complexities and personal upheavals. You can contact Alex Poppe directly via the followng: Business email: sallya.poppe@gmail.com Business website: www.alexpoppe.com On Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/alex_poppe_author/ On LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/sallyalexpoppe/ Order Breakfast Wine at Bookshop.org or your local indie bookstore. It's hard to believe (at the time of this recording) that it's April, and hopefully we all survived tax day and are able to get out and enjoy some of the beautiful Spring foliage that's popping up all over. On this Spring day, I've invited Lawrence Payne to join me as my guest. He is an award-winning copywriter, editor, voice actor and composer, who has worked with some of the world's most progressive companies such as Yamaha Digital Musical Instruments, Yamaha Audio, Teac, Hitachi and Brother. Many of them in his capacity as a senior copywriter at Intermart Advertising/Tokyo. He's received awards for his creative work featured in prestigious national and regional competitions and he has a reputation for excellence in technical documentation and communications. Lawrence has over 32 years of professional experience covering subjects ranging from music, cultural history, philosophy, religion, robotics, telecom and travel. Lawrence has contributed widely to consumer and trade publications, including the graphic-design journal How. As a knowledgeable musician and critic, he has written for Guitar Player magazine, served as associate editor at Music Connection magazine and studied with the Latin guitar virtuoso Jorge Strunz. He produces the YouTube channel Deep Space Theater, which features his own musical compositions. Among his recent literary efforts are the books of a Zen Buddhist abbot whose influence is spread throughout Asia to the Americas and Europe. However, with all of the aforementioned projects, the one title that's missing from Lawrence Payne's accomplishments, is as LinkedIn's Chief Cheerleader and Encourager! On any given day, you can find Lawrence reposting, commenting and encouraging others on their accomplishments. It's that kind of generosity and kindness that has brought us together to have a conversation. It's no secret to some of my longtime listeners that I'm originally from Los Angeles; sometimes referred to as the land of the rich, famous and forever young. That "fountain of youth", has been featured and celebrated in films, commercials and advertising for decades, leading those of us who are now in our more "mature years", to believe that we've become irrelevant, worthless and should claim our rightful spot in the proverbial "pasture". Well, Ande Lyons, the guest joining me today, has made it her mission to dismantle age-related stereotypes and explore the limitless potential that comes with experience and wisdom, and she does so as the host and producer of her "Don't Be Caged by Your Age" podcast. A seasoned entrepreneur and global startup mentor, Ande seeks to inspire and empower her listeners to thrive at any age, especially after the age of 65. With over a decade of podcasting experience and more than 800 episodes under her belt, including 250 episodes of her "Startup Life Show" on YouTube, and 'Your Ink Story' podcast, she's passionate about sparking meaningful conversations that ignite change and growth. As the proud founder of four diverse businesses, ranging from tech to food, Ande has navigated the exhilarating highs and challenging lows of entrepreneurship, gaining insights and stories that she generously shares with her listeners. She's taken that generosity to the streets, so to speak, by forming the New England Podcasters Group, a vibrant community of storytellers and creators who gather monthly to collaborate, learn, and grow. NEPG provides a supportive space for podcasters to refine their craft, connect with one another, and expand their reach with their monthly speaker series featuring industry leaders and innovators. Whether she's mentoring entrepreneurs, hosting pro-aging conversations, or building community through podcasting, Ande is a source of inspiration and empowerment with anyone she connects with, by helping them to embrace new opportunities and live their most fulfilling lives. Welcome to a very special episode that is launching during the week of 'Podcasthon'; the world's largest podcast charity initiative, bringing together podcasters worldwide to raise awareness of local non-profits charitable causes. And what's more timely and relevant right now, than delving into a discussion of behavioral health with an organization that has been servicing its clients for over 55 years. Founded in 1970, Buckelew Programs encompasses a combined 137 years of experience serving the North Bay, here in California. With programs in Marin, Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino Counties, Buckelew's mission is to promote recovery, resilience and Hope (something we're big on in this podcast) by providing behavioral health and support services that enhance quality of life through their 5 Core Programs: Counseling, Service Navigation, Substance Use Recovery, Supported Housing, and Suicide Prevention. Buckelew is tirelessly working to destigmatize the value of mental health, in the services they provide to foster healthy people and communities. Chris Kughn is Buckelew's CEO, and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and has served at the helm of Buckelew since May of 2019 He has more than 20 years of experience in the public, private and, nonprofit behavioral healthcare systems. Prior to Buckelew, Chris served in several executive management roles in Solano County and the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services, including Division Director of Adult and Older Adult Services. His passion and commitment to nonprofit behavioral health services began with his work serving adults, children, and families in juvenile justice, crisis stabilization and adult homeless systems. With a B.S. degree in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh and an M.A. degree in Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. He is a member of the California Association of Social Rehabilitation Agencies (CASRA). Chris tends to his own mental health through mountain biking, cycling, scuba diving, and a gift that I've had the pleasure of enjoying; a keen sense of humor. It's been a minute since our last episode, and as we step into a new year, it's clear that for many of us, things haven't quite gone as planned. In particular, I'm referring to friends and family in Los Angeles, who are grappling with the aftermath and the ongoing devastating fires, and to those facing social, environmental, and political challenges. I've recently returned from attending the 11th Annual Podfest Expo in Orlando, FL, and as a first time attendee, I am reinvigorated and more committed than ever to bringing you authentic, inspiring, and hope-filled stories. A heartfelt thank you to Chris Krimitsos, the visionary and founder behind Podfest, for creating an event built on education, collaboration, and community. It's a place where, as he says, "Your Voice Matters," reminding us all to use our words and energy wisely. It's no small coincidence then, that my first guest of 2025, has built her business and personal mission on teaching both children and adults, the fundamentals of kindness and collaboration. Attributes that appear to be in short supply these days and yet as my experience at Podfest just proved, these qualities can exist given the right leadership, nurturing and creativity. And speaking of nurturing and creativity, my guest Sandra Beckwith, is all of the embodiment of these qualities and so much more. She's the author of numerous e-books, 10 and counting, and is a passionate advocate for civility, with her 'Master Keys for Kids,' a collection aiming to instill kindness, respect, gratitude, and compassion in our youth. These fundamental values, though seemingly very scarce today, are essential for nurturing a more respectful and empathetic society. Its companion series of character tales, 'A Manner for All Seasons' is the second release of what's soon to be a trilogy of living into your life purpose, and serves as a tool for families, classrooms and faith communities. Sandra's program, 'Return to Civility,' uses theatre skills to teach empathy and emotional intelligence, encouraging kids to engage in meaningful interactions. Beyond her work with children, Sandra is the creator of 'Your Life as a Masterpiece,' a process aimed at helping individuals discern their life purpose and set personal goals. Soon to be available in e-book form, this course invites us to reflect on the art of living intentionally. I had the great opportunity to be one of Sandra's first students years ago when we were both living in Los Angeles. Join us as we explore Sandra's insights and learn how we can all contribute to a kinder, more respectful world. Whether you're a parent, teacher, or simply someone who cares about the next generation, I trust there's something valuable you can take away from this conversation. Contact Sandra Beckwith via the following: Business email: sandra@masterkeysforkids.com Website: www.MasterKeysforKids.com YouTube: @AMomentforManners: releasing the first season, all episodes 3 minutes or under. Watch with the kids you love. Watch the show, practice the skill! Great for weekend activities Wonderful experience: Master Keys is meant to offer a wide array of almost 50 topics that address civility, manners and building character for families and classrooms. The program helps guide conversations, teach critical thinking, build empathy, and focus on kid's emotional development. I use humor, stories that teach, and a unique series host, Madama and her pet, Peeves, to talk about how treating others with kindness and respect make a much better quality of life for all concerned. Master Keys offers two ebook series: SET I Master Keys for Kids themed ebooks where you can use the actual guides in a classroom setting or to guide conversations over chores, car rides, or table talk. Pick a topic, practice the skill SET II. A Manner for All Seasons, storybook series, read the story and practice a skill like thank you notes A Moment for Manners YouTube show: watch a show, practice the skill. If you're a regular listener to my show, then you know by now that I'm always excited to introduce you to intriguing creatives who are making a positive impact in their fields of expertise. Today, I'm especially excited for this conversation as in some ways I feel like this particular guest and I have been doppelganger's in both experiences and creative choices. She also happens to share one of my core beliefs that it's never too late to pursue one's dreams. Now a full time voice and on-camera actor as well as a voice over coach, Jennifer "Jenn" Sims, was deep into her career as the Director of Broadcast at one of L.A.'s top ad agencies, she worked on 100s of commercials with talent agents and casting directors and listened to thousands of voice actor's auditions. She also directed voice actors, including Emmy and Oscar winners; such as Donald Sutherland as the voice for a national healthcare campaign and produced network promos starring the incomparable voice legend, Don LaFontaine, to name a just few. As glamorous as the world of advertising appears to be in the content it creates, it can also be, as Jenn says, very toxic, and her work environment was becoming increasingly so, prompting Jenn to reflect on what she really wanted to do when she began her career in the first place; that of being an actress; as she spent years honing her quirky sense of humor while studying comedy and improv at The Upright Citizen's Brigade, The Groundlings, (which landed her on-camera commercials for Uber, Snapchat and WebMD) and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles. It was during a recording session, that Jenn realized her passion for acting was undiminished and made the decision to quit her job to pursue a full time career in voice over! However, in Jenns own words, she was "older" than most people who pursue full time acting. And for anyone who is familiar with how youth oriented show business is; especially in Los Angeles, it wasn't exactly a text-book recipe for success. Leaving that coveted Director of Broadcast position was a huge risk but one she was willing to take, and so Jenn took that leap. This episode discusses childhood molestation and rape and may not be suitable for younger listeners or those who've experienced similar trauma. I hope you've all had a beautiful and rejuvenating summer. I'm recording this episode on the eve of the Autumn Equinox. I imagine we're all beginning to pull out those comfy sweaters for the cooler weather that is right around the corner! I'm delighted to be back with a new season of episodes beginning with the very special guest that's joining me today. The descriptor's "bestselling author, global sailor and activist", used to introduce Heidi Love, fails to give full measure to who this amazing woman is. (She's definitely all of those but oh, SO MUCH MORE!) Heidi was born in the small Alaskan town of Seward, Alaska, where her missionary father, mother and older brother moved to from Pennsylvania prior to her birth then eventually moved to Philadelphia when Heidi was six. Now living in Eliot Maine, her cache of accomplishments include marketing strategist and cofounder of Vont, a Maine-based $7 million dollar digital marketing agency along with its sister agency, Ethos; a full-service, multi-platform branding agency. Love has earned an MBA, a Women of Achievement Fellowship, and graduated from the Institute for Civic Leadership. She is an active board member of Safe Space Radio and a former board member of the Maine Women's Fund. As impressive as those accomplishments are Heidi's quest for healing from childhood violence, and its ensuing trauma, led her to embark on a five-year, 12,000 nautical-mile sailing odyssey from Maine to French Polynesia that was 43 years in the making resulting in a life redeemed and an incredible message of Hope. In May of 2024, Heidi released the memoir of that journey, Laughing at the Sky, Wild Adventure, Bold Dreams and a Daring Search for a Stolen Childhood, which ranked #1 in New Releases in four different categories on Amazon, which we'll be talking about today. The first thing my guest, Paul Schmidt, would like you to know about him, is that as a single dad, his teenage son, Robbie, is his world and his reason for everything. Which is incredibly endearing considering the level of success he's attained in a variety of professional and creative endeavors. Perhaps his success is due to being cast at the age of six in the role of "God" in his school play and that has "anointed" his efforts ever since. For years Paul would continue his Thespian pursuits acting in just about anything he could, which in 1980's Baltimore meant musicals, as he performed in over 20 of them before he turned 18. Once he was out of college, he pursued a successful career in broadcasting, and started on-air at 98 Rock in Baltimore, and eventually went on-air full-time at WRDX in Wilmington, DE for almost a decade. Adding to his performance repertoire, Paul did stand-up comedy and owned and operated Christina's Comedy Zone at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino for 3 years, which won Best Comedy Club in Delaware Today Magazine. He also did a year of improv in the Baltimore troupe of ComedySportz. For the past 25 years, Paul has poured his stage and on-camera acting experience into commercial and corporate voiceover work, and voicing for hundreds of small and medium-sized businesses via explainer videos, e-learning, corporate training, medical narration, and audiobooks. As a community builder and business coach, Paul created the VO Freedom Master Plan, a voiceover marketing program designed to generate consistent opportunities for voice actors to book work, and the VO Pro Community, a private, professional, global community created to meet the needs of voice actors and audiobook narrators who want to take their careers to the next level. Joining me from Richmond, VA, Paul is an avid sports fan, who loves playing golf with his son and refers to himself, among other things, as a "Golf Suckist". To talk about all this and more, I'd like to welcome Paul Schimidt to 19 Stories. My guest today, Christy Harst, has been heard on the World Series, Monday Night Football, and the NBA Finals as one of the national voices of YouTubeTV. She's also the national voice of John Deere, and has voiced dozens of television, streaming, and radio ads. Her career in voiceover began in college when she applied for a news internship at a local classical radio station. It was during her interview that the station manager told her she had a good voice, escorted her to the studio, recorded her reading the Star Spangled Banner and then suggested, "You'd do well in voice overs." Two decades later, Christy is in fact "doing well" and continues to work from her home based professional studio. She loves and excels at what she does and it shows in her body of work. Plus, she's the only one I know that has ever voiced about the dangers of Bed Bug Mating! Christy grew up in a rural town an hour outside of Cleveland, competed in cooking and public speaking as part of the 4-H program. After graduating college Christy experienced several terrifying situations, including being robbed in her first post-graduate job. And five years ago she suffered a mild stroke. Christy, by any measure, has been successful in the world of VO, and yet she is on a mission to change the sound of a genre of voiceover that for too long has been dominated by men….the world of sports promos. Her Building Doors campaign seeks to literally change the narrative of sports promos by demanding equal opportunities for female voice actors not just in sports, but in male centric brands as well. Her goal is that the door will be built and always remain open. She's even curated a personal YouTube appeal to her beloved Cleveland Browns to be their secret weapon by being their "first female voice to break through the noise!" I'd like to open my virtual door by welcoming Christy Harst to 19 Stories. The following conversation may not be appropriate for younger listeners, or those who've experienced abandonment, sexual abuse, or drug addiction. Today's guest, author Hannah Sward, has quite the story to tell. So much so, she wrote about it in her memoir Strip, an International Book Award Finalist, Reader's Choice Award Finalist and Book Soup Bestseller…which is quite the homage to her late father; the renowned poet and novelist Robert Sward. Widely published in literary journals in the US, Canada, and the UK, her work has also appeared in publications such as LA Times, HuffPost, and many others. She was a regular contributor at The Fix and Erotic Review and columnist and editor at Third Street Villager in Los Angeles. Hannah Sward, was born in the bohemian seventies, abandoned by her mother at the age of two and lived with her father on an island in Victoria, B.C. that had no stores or cars. At the age of six, she was kidnapped and molested by a stranger, and as she got older, became a stripper and a prostitute with a taste for crystal meth. Although Strip is often referred to as an addiction memoir, as one book reviewer wrote, "that is just one part of it. Strip is about so much more. It is a book about loss, loneliness, and the yearning for something more." It is also, as Nobel Prize Winner J.M. Coetzee wrote, "Touchingly honest, and written with a light touch." She writes about the silent gurus, sugar daddies, and drinking in the CVS bathroom before therapy sessions in a painstakingly honest, detailed, and often humorous way. 'Strip' is a heartfelt memoir revealing Hannah's journey from innocence to darkness and beyond, to a world of empowerment. It's that story, that message and the ultimate redemption of her life and talent that we'll be talking about today. My guest today, Jennifer Clark, is described as the sound of Humankindness. It's who she is, how she does business, and what she sounds like. It's the sound you can trust. It's the sound of collaboration. It's the sound of stories with impact. And on this podcast it's all about the stories. Perhaps her humankindness stems from being a pastor's kid and traveling to 14 different countries and exploring the common thread that binds us. Perhaps it's her classical training, in both singing and violin, allowing her to speak a universal language that touches the heart of all who hear it. (Smile) Or, perhaps it's her degree in pastoral children's ministry that allows her to see life through the eyes and innocence of a child. Whatever it is, Jennifer puts the human connection in everything she voices; from corporate narration, commercials, eLearning, explainer videos, documentaries and harmonizing with her beautiful alto voice on the occasional holiday jingle! It's the reason that national brands such as Walmart, Pinterest, AT&T, PBS, NASA, LEGO, Guideposts, and many more, have trusted her to be the voice of their brand, and also the reason that Jennifer is a 2023 One Voice Awards Nominee and a 2023 and 2022 SOVAS Voice Arts Awards Nominee! I'd like to extend a very human and warm welcome to my guest Jennifer Clark... I hope you're all having a wonderful start to 2024 and that you have some things that you're feeling excited about. If not, perhaps my next guest will inspire you as she is the founder, host and Chief Inspiration Officer of the Women in the Arena Podcast…a celebration of everyday women living extraordinary lives in plain sight. Now in its 4th year, the Women in the Arena podcast seeks to inspire, encourage and challenge women to reach for the greatness they were made for. And I invite the men to stick around as I imagine we all could use that kind of encouragement! As a corporate veteran, and an award winning sales professional, Audra A-gin has 25 years' experience of being one of the few women in the room, and in many cases, the only one. While the women she worked with may have been outnumbered, she recognized that they were all uniquely exceptional and became fascinated in learning more about them and their experiences. It became increasingly clear that these women were contributing significant value to their organizations, families and careers and that their contributions were either being taken for granted or overlooked, sometimes even by themselves. Audra had aspirations to change that and as a result Women in the Arena was created. As the creator, producer and host, Audra says it's a platform unlike any other, it's a celebration! Her motto is to celebrate women doing extraordinary things in plain sight. She believes that if we start to recognize the value within ourselves, then we can start to acknowledge the value within each other and see that we have more similarities than what appears on the surface. It is that knowledge that begins to change the narrative from "you are my competition" to "you are my best asset". This is life changing and as a result, world changing. This is Audra's goal, to change the world one interview at a time. Let's meet this world changer by welcoming Audra Agen to 19 Stories. You may contact Audra Agen via the following: Business email Address: audra@womeninthearena.net Business website: womeninthearena.net LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/women-in-the-arena-podcast/?viewAsMember=true Facebook Handle: Women in the Arena Podcast Instagram Handle: @womeninthearenapodcast Thanks for listening to this episode of 19 Stories: from fear to Hope. Wishing a very Happy New Year to you and yours. I certainly hope your holidays afforded you time to enjoy some rest and rejuvenation, and that 2024 is the year that you're able to actualize some of your dreams and aspirations. And speaking of actualizing one's dreams, I think we can all take a page from my next guest as the term renaissance woman truly applies to Maria Pendolino. She's a multi-award-winning voice artist working in national television and radio commercials, and numerous other genres of voice work. Maria is also the President of the Board of Directors for Alleyway Theatre Inc., a professional theater company offering education & development programs to foster the talents of emergent artists from Western New York and beyond. She also identifies as disabled actor, due to psoriatic arthritis which she was diagnosed with during her rise as a stage and screen actor. She's proud to use her voice to advocate for disabled performers across the entertainment and media spectrum via The Disabled Voice Actors Database; an online directory of names and contact information of working voice actors who also happen to be people with disabilities. Adding to her talents are that of a freelance Television and Feature Film Writer with a goal of developing and writing stories about women and disabled people who are at the center of their own stories. This past October 2023, Maria garnered high praise when she joined USA Today's Top 10 list of Emerging Entrepreneurs for 2023. I'd say a huge congratulations are in order, and yet the recognition is a bit ironic given Maria has been a working actor going on 20 years. Maria will soon be adding Podcaster to her hugely impressive list of credits as she'll soon be launching the podcast 'We Talk for a Living' where she'll be talking about the power of using one's voice, with guests from all different professions and backgrounds. Hello and a very Happy Thanksgiving week to you and yours. I hope that you're able to take some down time to enjoy the beginning of this holiday season, eat some good food, and do that which makes you feel rested and rejuvenated. It's been about a month since I've released a new episode and part of that is due to another project I've been working on. So, with that in mind, I am going to be taking a hiatus from releasing any new episodes of 19 Stories: from fear to Hope, until the beginning of 2024. I already have some wonderful guests who'll be joining me to share more remarkable and encouraging stories. Before I tell you about my new venture, I want to take this time to give a huge, heartfelt Thank You to all the guests who've joined me this past year, and to all of my listeners; whether you've been listening from day one or recently joined me. For the third year in a row, this podcast has been nominated for a SOVAS Award by the Society of Voice Arts & Sciences of which I am incredibly honored and grateful for this recognition. The award ceremony will be in Los Angeles in December, and although I will not be attending, I want to give a shoutout to my fellow nominees and voice actors who will be there. Perhaps I'll have news to share in the new year as to whether or not I was awarded a golden statue. Please know that either way, that I'm grateful for this continued recognition. Now, for some very exciting news! Much like I mulled around the idea of launching this podcast for several years, I've been doing the same with another podcast idea as well. My regular listeners are familiar with the numerous voice actors that I've interviewed, who have shared their stories of how they moved through fear to Hope, and having personally heard from many of you, that their messages have been inspirational at a time when you really needed to hear them, I'm hoping this new podcast will inspire you in other ways as well. The pilot episode of my new podcast, 'The Voice Kitchen: where recipes and voice talent blend!' will be launching tomorrow, Wednesday, November 22. Each week, I'll be chatting with a talented voice actor who'll be sharing one of their favorite recipes, while delving into its origin and the meaning it holds for them and their families. From savory soups to sweet desserts, this podcast has something for everyone. Whether you're a seasoned chef or just starting out in the kitchen, The Voice Kitchen will hopefully leave you feeling encouraged to try some of these recipes for yourself and to experiment with some of your own creations. I realize the holidays can be a hard time for folks. Whether it's health or financial issues, family and friends who are no longer with us, or a feeling of melancholy that can set in during the winter months and should you be alone during this season, I encourage you to reach out to the numerous churches, temples and community organizations that prepare holiday meals as I know they'd be delighted to welcome you to their table and love on you with a welcoming heart and a warm meal. In closing, I'd like to wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and holiday season. Until next time, stay Healthy and Hopeful! If you've spent any amount of time on popular social media channels, you're bound to have come across post after post with the anthem cry imploring you to be authentic, use your authentic voice, and for goodness sake, live your truth! But what exactly does that mean in a time when truths are manipulated and shaped to suit personal and political agendas? Leaving one to wonder whether or not authenticity, and dare I say, integrity, matter anymore? The guest joining me today, Dave Walsh, knows a thing or two about what it means to live into our authentic self and has been sharing his method for almost 17 years, as the Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of the True Tell Method…a unique and powerful coaching platform designed to help actors, executives and leaders of all kinds, find and use their authentic voice. Prior to coaching actors and executives in his True Tell Method, Dave has worn numerous hats in the creative arts with a career that spans over 34 years. From publicity and public relations, to Director of Television research for Paramount; to Chairman, Executive Producer and Talent for 'Get A Laddah Entertainment', to his very lucrative career as a top voice talent, Dave, by any measure, was a huge success. He was at the height of a magnificent voiceover career with an incredible manager, two agents and 22 years of voiceover success…when his entire world spiraled, and he lost the use of his voice. After being diagnosed with Spasmodic Dysphonia; aka, strangled voice syndrome, Dave began searching for answers for his own healing and thus his powerful formula was birthed and branded as 'The TruTell'. Naturally, Dave expanded his focus and adapted The TrueTells ® transformational process specifically for leaders and innovators and is on a mission to help them communicate more authentically to and with their teams and customers for greater success. Dave can be reached via the following: Email: dave@thetruetell.com Website: www.thetruetell.com Twitter: @yourtruetell IG: @thetruetell Classes: They are posted on his website under "Privates/Workshops" Thanks for listening to this episode of 19 Stories: from fear to Hope.
