It is an honor to welcome a true trailblazer in the world of health and wellness to our podcast today – none other than JJ Virgin herself. She is one of the first voices I ever heard on a podcast. I can't even remember how I found her, but it was somewhere around 2016 and I was looking for answers about fitness and nutrition for women over 40. And she was there to give the simple truth and put the science into words I could understand at the time, while also giving real practical advice to show me how to implement her tips that were the "little hinges that swing the big doors". I am pretty sure you already know JJ, but if you don't, listen up and start following her and her podcast now called "Well Beyond 40", which has over 1000 episodes and over 17 million downloads. JJ Virgin is a triple-board certified nutrition and fitness expert. I would also add biohacker to that list. JJ is a passionate advocate of the healing power of nutrition, and she is on a mission to change the way the world sees aging and longevity. She has launched 3 multimillion-dollar businesses and founded the Mindshare Collaborative, which is the most influential professional community in health. She also launched more New York Times bestselling books, PBS specials, and 7 figure brands than any other community. JJ co-hosted the show Freaky Eaters and was the nutrition expert for Dr. Phil's Weight Loss Challenges. She's also been on Dr. Oz, Rachael Ray, Access Hollywood, and The TODAY Show. She's an international speaker and has shared the stage with the biggest of the big like Tony Robbins, Gary Vaynerchuk and Dr. Mark Hyman. You'll want to surely pick up her NY Times bestsellers like the Virgin Diet, The Virgin Diet Cookbook, JJ Virgin's Sugar Impact Diet, and JJ Virgin's Sugar Impact Diet Cookbook. She also has an amazing book called the Miracle Mindset, which shares the powerful lessons in strength and positivity that she learned after her 16 year old son Grant was the victim of a brutal hit-and-run accident and nearly died. Our guest today will help you sleep better. He is passionate about getting a good night's sleep and is going to give us some great tips on how to do this. Janne Kyllonen is from Finland and knows a lot about sleep because he needed it so much while he was traveling across multiple time zones. One day while he was traveling to Beijing after an exhausting flight, he was at the airport and found a very interesting gadget. It was called Active Noise Cancelling headphones. He tried them on and noticed silence all around him in the middle of a massively busy airport. And he came up with an idea…that he could make them even better. So he came up with Quieton. I am so excited to talk about these noise canceling headphones first of all, because no one on the biohacking circuit has really discovered them yet…so remember, you heard it here first. And second of all, because I now no longer have these microawakenings when someone in my bed snores or a church bell rings at 2am. Absolute silence. I can't take all the credit for finding Quieton. It's my biohacking bestie Magdelana of Magdalena's Secrets on Instagram who posted about them. She was telling me what a miracle they were for her. Magdalena has no vested interest and nothing to sell. So I believed her. So now I put them to the test. And to be honest, even though the buds are microscopic I didn't like something in my ears. I go back to Magdalena for some explanations and she said to give it a few days and adjust the size. And she was right. It was perfect timing too because I happened to be in a new place, a new bed and a new city that had a church bell ringing every hour on the hour…and a neighbor who I could hear going up and down the stairs in the middle of the night. When I finally gave it another go, I had a really great nights sleep and just laughed when my husband complained of the church bell and neighbor again. I heard zero! So, enough raving about Quieton, I want to introduce Janne so we can talk about sleep in general, give you some tips and answer some questions about anything anyone puts inside their ears to find some silence. Meet my personal anti aging doctor. I first learned about Dr. Lauren Bramley through my clients while I was living in Hong Kong in 2014. They all raved about her and loved her cutting edge take on their problems. Some of them had arthritis, others had autoimmune disease. They would show me their protocol and the supplements they were taking and I was impressed. I knew this was not your ordinary doctor. The only complaint they have is that she is so hard to see. She is always halfway between Canada and Hong Kong. She is always attending medical conferences, speaking at them, learning and continuing to educate herself to always bring the latest science to her patients. That's the trade off. So, my Hong Kong clients are always desperately waiting for her return. But now with telemedicine, we have new ways to stay in touch and she's going to share with us today how she is now working around those previous obstacles with a new program she calls The Better With Age Club. Dr Bramley is a Canadian trained and licensed medical doctor with a focus on functional and anti-aging medicine. She has a Master's Degree in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism. She has a huge toolbox of "toys" to help us actually get down to the root cause of a problem and fix it once and for all. She uses bioidentical hormones, genomics, nutraceuticals, peptides and lifestyle hacks. She is also really well known for her TedxTalk: "Know Your Numbers" where she talked about her philosophy of improving your health by empowering yourself. Knowing your data, interpreting it, understanding it and knowing how to apply it to your unique self. I remember when I first popped into Dr. Bramley's clinic in Central in Hong Kong, I was really blown away. It was the first time I saw an anti-aging clinic, but one solely dedicated to reversing aging…not just a side note or afterthought. It had everything I dreamed of having in medical care. She has an in-house laboratory directly on premise where she can get all her testing done accurately and quickly. It's amazing and it's been there for over 20 years. Dr. Rachel Carlton Abrams busts myths about sexuality in midlife, because, she literally wrote the book on it…and she's a doctor, so it's all certified. Dr. Rachel studied at the famous Stanford University, graduated with honors, got her doctorate from UC San Francisco and even has a Masters Degree in Holistic Health from UC Berkeley. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine and Integrative Medicine. In 2008 she opened the Santa Cruz Integrative Medicine Clinic where she treats some of the world's most influential people, like big shot CEOs, billionaire entrepreneurs and Nobel Peace laureates. She's been voted as the "Best Doctor" in Santa Cruz County every year since 2009. And it looks like no one is even close to breaking that track record. As a gerontologist I respect that she's super dedicated to creating health equity and anti-racism in health care. Dr. Rachel is also an author. She wrote the books: Bodywise: Discovering Your Body's Intelligence for Lifelong Health and Healing Eight Dates: Essential Conversations for a Lifetime of Love, The Man's Guide to Women (she wrote this one with her husband) The Multi-Orgasmic Woman The Multi-Orgasmic Couple, and the audiobook Taoist Sexual Secrets. Dr. Rachel doesn't stop, because she loves teaching courses and over the last 20 years she also works as a consultant on holistic health for national magazines, radio and television, so you probably have run into her somehow somewhere before. Dr. Rachel is not only a practicing doctor, author, speaker and consultant, she's also been a board member of the AHMA (American Holistic Medical Association) and is now an active board member of the AIHM (Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine), where she works on anti-racism, health equity and inclusive membership. Today we meet psychoanalyst Dr. Michael Bader who uncovers the mental blocks that silently shut down arousal in midlife and the surprising psychological technique that can actually bring your spark, and your erotic groove, back online. We cover: · Why arousal is actually a psychological act of safety · The feelings that come up that shut down libido · Why fantasies are safety mechanisms, not guilty pleasures · The real reason long-term relationships can erode desire · How menopause and cultural pressures create a unique bind for midlife women Dr. Michael Bader is a psychologist and psychoanalyst with over four decades of clinical experience, known for his pioneering work on the psychology of desire, intimacy, and sexual fulfillment. He is the author of the influential book Arousal: The Secret Logic of Sexual Fantasies, where he unpacks the hidden emotional and psychological meanings behind sexual fantasy and why it plays such a powerful role in human arousal. Dr. Bader blends clinical depth with a refreshingly accessible style, helping people understand how unconscious fears, early experiences, and emotional dynamics shape their erotic lives. His work challenges shame, reduces stigma, and offers a compassionate, science-informed framework for sexual well-being. Beyond his clinical practice, Dr. Bader has served as a consultant, teacher, and writer on topics ranging from sexuality to social psychology, and he's widely respected for bridging the gap between psychological theory and everyday struggles around intimacy, pleasure, and connection. Do you feel there's more and more emotional distance between you and your partner? Are you struggling to keep up with intimacy and romance and maybe even losing that connection you once had? Then this episode is for you. Today we meet OBGYN and sexual medicine specialist Dr. Maria Sophocles, who sheds light on what she calls "The Bedroom Gap." This gap describes the mismatch in desire, expectations, and physical ability between partners, especially as we age and go through menopause. We also cover: How hormonal changes, body image, and relationship dynamics intersect The biopsychosocial approach to sexual health — and why focusing on only hormones or meds isn't enough Practical strategies to improve communication and connection with your partner The role of estrogen, testosterone, and when to use FDA-approved treatments How to find ethical and effective sexual health professionals, from pelvic floor therapists to certified sex therapists, she rattled off some great resources, so get out your pen and paper. Why older women often rediscover pleasure and confidence once shame and societal pressure fade away Dr. Maria Sophocles has spent 30 years as a gynecologist and public advocate for women's health. Her mission to close the gendered healthcare gap inspired her viral TED talk and her book called The Bedroom Gap. She fought for 7 years for the creation of legislation providing access to contraception in New Jersey. Her Princeton clinic and virtual practice serves 30,000 women in the US and globally. She is currently working on a documentary about sex and menopause and developing a health clinic in rural Kenya.
