It is a time of transitions as Jack and Geoff continue Malibu Graphics' POTA! First, a major, much-loved character makes the transition from alive to dead in the pages of issue #18. And then, shifting to the world of Conquest of the POTA for issue #19, we see the beginnings of Ceasar's bloody ape revolution through the eyes of an ordinary circus-loving human. It's a cornucopia of Apes excitement in the mighty Malibu manner!
It's time for a horde-tacular conclusion as Jack and Geoff discuss the final two issues of the POTA/Alien Nation crossover Ape Nation! As the evil alliance of General Ollo and would-be alien conqueror Danada comes undone, a trio of interspecies companions prepares for a bloody showdown with the implacable horde! Will the social commentary that is emblematic of both franchises make a late-game appearance, or will things descend into total carnage? Listen along and find out!
The year is drawing to a close, which can only mean one thing: it's time for our annual Xmas Ape-tacular! Jack and Geoff are joined by the usual menagerie of merry elves (Erin Clarke, Sam Stovold, and Kev Young) to hand out a series of Ape-cademy Awards honouring the best of 2025! Then it's games time, this year featuring the all-new, all-thrilling Coe-one & Done!
The most unexpected comics crossover event of 1991 is here! Jack and Geoff are joined again by Barm to discuss the first two issues of Malibu's Ape Nation! It's the comic that answers the question "What would happen if POTA met Alien Nation, the aliens-as-metaphor-for-immigrants sci-fi franchise that was briefly a thing in the late 80s/early 90s?" The answer is FUN, as your Ape hosts discuss Alien Nation as a whole, the ways it fits (and does not fit) into the POTA milieu, and the sheer delights to be found in a marauding horde of apes, humans and aliens!
Jack & Geoff are joined by Barm for a look at Countdown Zero! This standalone tale (encompassing Malibu·s POTA #14-17) focuses on recently crash-landed astronauts who find themselves on a planet of apes! Unlike other such tales, this one keeps the focus on the humans and the rising tensions between them, as they are pursued by an enigmatic, skunk-striped gorilla and his Spanish-speaking crew!
Bells are ringing in the pages of Malibu Comics! The franchise's first-ever ape-proximation of our human-style wedding ceremony is happening, and Jack and Geoff are crashing their way in. But that's not all: there's also an X-cellent adventure with everyone's favourite ape bumblers, and more surprise appearances from across the Malibu Apes universe than you can ring a matrimonial bell at!
The swamp ape vs. mutant ape conflict you've been clamoring for is here, as Jack and Geoff look at issues #10 and #11 of Malibu's POTA comic! Departing artists Burles and Kaalberg are pulling out all the stops in these incident-packed issues that also see the return of a long-departed villain, a truly bizarre origin story, and Dr. Moto being his devilishly delightful self!
Things are getting jolly in Malibu's POTA, as Jack & Geoff look at issues #8 and #9! We have exciting new types of apes, gator wrasslin' in the bayou, and the first-ever Apes Xmas special! Come for the heartwarming seasonal cheer--don't forget the fruitcake--and stay for the dawn of a new epic chapter in this continually-surprising series!
It's a new day in Ape City as Jack and Geoff return to Malibu's POTA series with a look at issues 6 & 7! And it's a lovely day indeed, as your Ape hosts marvel at the locked-in art, fascinating formal explorations, tantalizing story developments, and the simple pleasures of an ape mad scientist talking to a severed head.
Enter: the biker apes! The Ape-sanity continues as Jack and Geoff are joined by Sam Stovold to discuss the conclusion of Malibu's not-set-in-Ape-City miniseries Ape City! The Hell's Apes come roaring in to join the ninjas, gangsters, ronin, and stereotypical 90s comic tough guys that populate the series, and EVERYONE wants to get their paws on that magic crystal! Planet of the Apes does not get much weirder than this, and your Ape hosts are here to unpack it all!
You wanna get nuts? Let's get nuts! Late 80s pop culture references and bats**t insanity abound as Jack and Geoff look at the first two issues of Malibu's 1990 miniseries Ape City! Don't let the title fool you: Ape City and its denizens are nowhere to be found in this tale, but it does have gangster apes, macho fighting men, and more baboon ninjas than you can shake a shuriken at!
Jack & Geoffキs exploration of Malibu's POTA comics continues with a look at issues #3-#5! As Alexander plots to re-take Ape City from the villainous gorilla General Ollo, orangutan advisor Jacob finds himself at an ethical crossroads. Also, a new mad scientist ape bursts on the scene, and a few old favorites (such as Lady Liberty and jump kicks) drop by for a taste of the familiar!
A new Ape-och dawns! Jack and Geoff start discussing Malibu Graphicsキ early 1990s POTA comic series, with a look at issues #1 and #2! Thereキs plenty of familiar fun to latch onto: black & white art reminiscent of the old Marvel series, a bombastic and villainous gorilla general, andキan ape who looks like short-lived 80s fast food restaurant Mac Tonight?! It all starts here!
Another ape-och draws to a close as Jack and Geoff discuss Caesar's Story! Released in 2018 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the POTA franchise, this biography/oral history examines the life of Caesar as written by the orangutan who knew him best: Maurice (with unspecified assistance from some human named Greg Keyes). Will this memoir reveal new insights into the inner lives of these important apes? Will the events of Keyes' earlier novels be canonized? Will we learn how the apes developed their horse husbandry skills? Tune in, dear listener, and find out for yourself!
Giant Monsters and Super Heroes and Super Villains ALL OUT ATTACK!!! Jack and Geoff are joined by Sam Stovold to unpack the smash-tacular conclusion of Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong! As Lex Luthor enacts his MechaGodzillian masterstroke, the Justice League contends with a veritable surf キnキ turf of supervillain-assisted Titanic threats! Listen along and you too will be saying Letキs squawking go!
Jack and Geoff are kicking off the new year right with a look at 2024's kaiju-sized comic crossover Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong! Packed to the gills with superheroes, supervillains and monsters alike, these first three issues set up an epic conflict to com while still giving your Ape hosts what they want: Godzilla and Kong both proving why they're called king, beam-on-beam action, and tons of Captain Cold!
It's here once again! Jack and Geoff are joined by holiday guests Erin Clarke, Sam Stovold and Kev Young for the annual Christmas Ape-stravaganza! They've got a heapin' helpin' of Ape-cademy Awards to give out, and then it's game time! Xmas stalwarts ORANGUTAN and CHIMP Game are back, along with the all-new, all-thrilling GCOGCOGCO! Will Erin continue her reign of terror? Check your Apesmas podcast stocking for the answer!
The Boom! Era draws to a close as Jack & Geoff take a look at the short comic tale collection When Worlds Collide! While the stories here donキt actually feature any crossover between the original/contemporary film continuities, they do manage to touch upon a lot of what makes this franchise so great, while giving your Ape hosts one last look at some classic POTA comics creators!
It's here: Jack and Geoff are tackling 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes! There's a lot to say about this trilogy-capping epic, and so Sam Stovold returns to help unpack it all. What is war good for? Absolutely multitudes!
As the march towards War continues, Jack and Geoff discuss some lesser-known works from this era: Planet of the Apes: Last Frontier and the POTA motion books! The former is a Choose Your Own Adventure Book masquerading as a video game, and the latter is a series of digital-only comics published by defunct platform MadeFire. If you havenキt heard of these, fear not! Your Ape hosts are here to break キem all down!
