Janelle and Rebekah imagine what a med spa reality show would look like, built from years of behind-the-scenes experience in clinics, operations, patients, teams, and all the personalities that come with the industry. They talk through the cast of characters every med spa team would recognize: the pot stirrer, the mother hen, the diva injector, the exhausted manager, the marketing maven, the quiet one in the corner, the person whose personal life is always on fire, and the generational mix that makes clinic culture even more entertaining. They also get into the patient side of the show, from the regular who feels like one of the girls to the demanding VIP, the event guest who comes for the snacks, and the patient whose confidence transformation reminds everyone why the work matters. It is funny, chaotic, familiar, and just real enough that anyone who has worked in a med spa will probably start casting their own clinic immediately. Operation Med Spa welcomes its first studio guest, Jessica, one of Alpha's Directors of Operations, for a practical conversation about what they would do if someone handed them the keys to a med spa tomorrow. Rebekah, Janelle, and Jessica talk through the first moves that matter most: observing the business, meeting with every employee, understanding the patient experience, reviewing the P&L, walking the neighborhood, evaluating the space, and identifying what is actually driving the business before making big changes. The goal is not to rush in with a resume and start changing everything. It is to understand the clinic from every angle. They also break down staffing, culture, vendor relationships, service selection, device graveyards, quick wins, facility updates, retail, CRM, marketing, and whether they would keep or change the business name. The conversation shows the difference between thinking like a director and thinking like an owner, while still protecting the team, the patients, and the long-term health of the business. Not every med spa experience is sunshine and rainbows. Janelle and Rebekah talk through the patient-facing red flags that can show up in the industry, from misunderstood Botox dilution to illegally sourced product, expired retail, questionable sanitation, and pricing that starts to feel more like a negotiation than a medical aesthetics consultation. They explain why seeing liquid added to Botox is not automatically a red flag, but pricing that seems too good to be true might be. Extremely cheap injectables can point to bigger concerns around sourcing, expiration dates, storage, or whether the product came from a certified vendor. The conversation also covers retail products, open syringes, treatment room cleanliness, and why trustworthy med spas should operate with consistency, safety, transparency, and integrity. The goal is not to scare patients. It is to help them ask better questions, notice warning signs, and choose providers who care about doing things the right way. Janelle and Rebekah talk through one of the most important parts of leadership: respect. Respect is not usually lost in one big moment. It erodes slowly through avoided conversations, inconsistent standards, favoritism, reactive leadership, lack of follow-through, and leaders who care more about being liked than being effective. They break down why teams notice what leaders tolerate, why hard conversations matter, and how inconsistency can quietly damage trust. If one person gets away with behavior that someone else would be coached for, the team sees it. If meetings happen but nothing changes afterward, the team feels it. If leaders avoid accountability because they want everyone to like them, respect starts to disappear. The conversation also answers the bigger question: can respect be earned back? Janelle and Rebekah agree that it can, but only with honesty, self-awareness, humility, clear communication, and consistent action over time. Janelle and Rebekah break down five common med spa delusions that can quietly hold a business back: "we just need more leads," "our schedule is full, so we're doing great," "our culture is amazing," "operations isn't that hard," and "that's not my job." They unpack why more leads do not matter if response times are slow, follow-up is weak, or the team is not converting inquiries into booked appointments. They also explain why a full schedule does not always mean a healthy business if revenue per visit is low, discounts are heavy, cancellations are high, or the team is not protecting the book. The conversation also gets into culture, accountability, operations, and teamwork. A nice team is not always a healthy team, and strong med spa culture requires direct feedback, ownership, and people who are willing to jump in even when something is technically not their job.
