Do you feel like having a full-time job means you can't be all-in on your business? Or that it means you're not taking your business 'seriously' enough? If that's you, you want to tune into this episode. I recently coached a PGSDer who felt like the fact that she needed to get a full-time job to support herself financially meant that she wasn't being "all-in". And what I shared with her completely blew her mind and gave her so much relief. So in today's episode I'm sharing why having a full-time job is often part of being all-in on your business. I'm also sharing how I personally navigated building my business while working a full-time job and the perspective that allowed me to stop resenting my full-time job (or feeling like a failure at business because I had one). It took me 3 very painful years to learn what I'm sharing in today's podcast episode. And it cost me hundreds of thousands in lost revenue to learn it. That's why I want to share it with you - so you don't make the same mistake I did. I'm honestly still licking my wounds from this mistake and it's simply because I didn't know what I share in this episode. Today's episode is on Sufficiency Cycles. I'm sharing what a Sufficiency Cycle is and why they're so important for all perfectionist entrepreneurs. I'm sharing what happens if you don't recognise a Sufficiency Cycle when you're in one (like I was). I'm sharing exactly how this showed up for me in my business (if you're not familiar with how I do my podcast - I share all the raw behind the scenes stuff as that's most helpful). And I'm sharing the revenue numbers that reveal why this is so important for all perfectionist entrepreneurs to understand. As a perfectionist building a business, you don't want to skip this episode - it's essential listening for all. [Part 5 of 5] There are courageous things you need to do to build your business that you might never feel excited about - like pitching yourself as a guest on one of your favourite podcasts or posting on Instagram when you've been getting low engagement or publishing your sales page when you're still working on believing that your product is worth the money. If you're only able to do things when you're in the mood to do them, your business won't get much further than it is now. But changing that is simple when you know there are only three problems that make perfectionists get in their own way in their business: planning problems, productivity problems and persistence problems. So far, this series has shared how to solve your planning problems. I've taught you how to stop procrasti-planning, what the Power Planning process looks like, how to plan your week when it's rife with uncertainty and the importance of the Three Month Commitment. In the final part of the series, I'm sharing how to solve your productivity and persistence problems so you have the full picture when it comes to getting out of your own way. Doors close Friday: This is our final enrollment of the year for Perfectionists Getting Shit Done. When you sign up for PGSD, you'll get instant access to the Power Planning Course so you can start planning properly as a perfectionist right away and start 2026 with PGSD by your side. Doors close at 11:59pm EST this Friday, 21 November. To sign up today visit samlaurabrown.com/pgsd.
[Part 4 of 5] Power Planning will get you out of your own way in your business and have you doing the deep perfectionism work you need to do - all while you're doing more of what matters than ever before (in less time and with less overthinking). But it won't work for you if you give up on it prematurely. The habit of giving up too soon is one of the main reasons you're not where you want to be in your business. Most perfectionists want overnight, struggle-free, push-of-a-button success and we quit when we don't get it. We feel disheartened, discouraged and inadequate - when really, we just hadn't tried for long enough. Making the Three Month Commitment to Power Planning matters. The very act of Power Planning will coax you out of your perfectionism. And the fact that Power Planning won't 'work' instantly is what allows this to happen. I share what the Three Month Commitment is and how it works (and what not to do) in today's episode. Doors close Friday: This is our final enrollment of the year for Perfectionists Getting Shit Done. When you sign up for PGSD, you'll get instant access to the Power Planning Course so you can start planning properly as a perfectionist right away and start 2026 with PGSD by your side. [Part 3 of 5] Most perfectionists find it challenging to plan out their week when they don't know what will come up or how much energy they'll have. Whether you're working an exhausting day job, doing shift work or raising young children alongside building your business - there are certain things that can feel hard to plan around. Especially when no one has taught you how to plan properly… Some perfectionists plan their week as if everything will go smoothly, hoping for the best and then abandoning their plans when the inevitable happens. Others feel like they can't make plans at all and wing it day-by-day, praying they'll be able to find the motivation to do what matters most. But neither of these approaches work. That's why I interviewed Michelle Weeks on how to plan properly amidst uncertainty. Michelle is a PGSD Coach as well as being a life coach. Michelle and I are mothers of 6-month-old babies (Freddie and Lydia). And we're both using Power Planning to get out of our own way and get shit done in our businesses. Tune into this episode to discover all of the practical things we do to make Power Planning work for us when life is throwing constant curveballs. [Part 2 of 5] Power Planning covers everything perfectionists must do to plan properly. It's a simple 3 step process that anyone can learn. And I walk you through it in this episode. Here's a brief overview of how Power Planning works but be sure to tune into this episode to get all the details! You set a Growth Goal for your business (what I used to call your Impossible Goal) so you know exactly what you're working toward. Then you follow these steps: Step 1. Power Hour - in your weekly Power Hour you'll put your needle moving tasks in your digital calendar and create simple contingency plans that make it easy to get everything done without feeling overwhelmed. Step 2. Little Tweaks - every day you'll spend a little bit of time tweaking your calendar so you can get everything done without ever feeling behind or burning out, even if something unexpected comes up. Step 3. Weekly Review - at the end of the week you'll do a brief weekly review to discover what worked, what didn't work and what to do differently so next week's plans are even easier to follow through on. After listening to this episode, you'll know how to make the kind of plans that get you out of your own way - even when you're scared to put yourself out there. [Part 1 of 5] Perfectionists get in their own way when they follow the same planning advice as everyone else. That's why I've recorded a 5-part planning series for the podcast that'll help you plan properly as a perfectionist. This planning series is for perfectionists who write and rewrite long to-do lists of business tasks they never start, fall behind because they underestimate how long things will take and have notebooks full of ideas they haven't done anything with. This episode (part 1 of the Planning Series) is all about the differences between procrasti-planning and planning properly as a perfectionist. This will help you understand where you've been going wrong with planning so you can do something about it. Do you ever notice yourself jumping from one project to the next - always busy but rarely feeling complete? In this episode, I share a story about one of my 1:1 clients that perfectly captures what I call the Scramble Cycle. It's that perfectionist pattern of getting something 80% done, hitting a snag or losing momentum and then rushing off to the next thing that suddenly feels more urgent. You'll hear how my client was caught in the Scramble Cycle and what became possible once I pointed out the pattern. I also talk about how this pattern shows up for perfectionist entrepreneurs in subtle ways: when we avoid the final steps, procrastinate on tech setup or abandon an almost-finished project because it feels safer to stay "in progress" than to feel exposed by completing it. If you've ever found yourself constantly scrambling, always behind and never quite finished, this episode will help you see exactly why that happens - and what to do differently so you can finally feel on top of things again. I used to treat paying myself like a nice-to-have. In this episode I share the behind-the-scenes of how that thinking kept my business feeling like a hobby even when I was working so hard on it. You'll hear the messy middle too – why I changed jobs so I could have more time for my business without more financial pressure, the vague "replace my income" goal that didn't help me make more money and the moment I created some positive pressure that quietly changed everything. If you've been waiting for a big cash month to finally be able to start paying yourself consistently, this will offer a different way forward. I wasn't planning to record this episode - it was one of those moments where I just had to pick up the mic and talk. Something clicked for me recently and it made so many things in my business and life suddenly make sense in a way they never had before. It's one of those shifts that once you see it, you can't unsee it. In this episode, I share the story behind that realisation - what led up to it, what I noticed about the way I'd been working and thinking and how it's been quietly shaping my results for years without me realising. If you've ever felt like you're doing all the right things but still not feeling fulfilled or inspired by your business, this is going to resonate deeply. I talk about what I discovered during my Weekly Review that changed how I look at my habits, my relationships and my goals. It's something that's been right under my nose for years - and yet it's completely shifted how I plan, create and show up. If you've been feeling a little disconnected, overthinking your next move or trying to get everything perfect before you take action, this conversation will help you see things in a totally new light. You're doing all the right things - posting, showing up and putting yourself out there - but your sales are inconsistent. In this episode, Sam shares the key shifts that help perfectionist entrepreneurs go from sporadic sales to consistent, reliable income without working more or trying to become someone else. You'll learn why perfectionism makes selling feel harder than it needs to be and how to start selling in a way that works with your brain instead of against it. Today I'm sharing the two productivity tools I used that helped build my business to multiple six figures as a perfectionist entrepreneur. If productivity is something you're struggling with because you procrastinate, you spend a lot of time feeling overwhelmed, you never feel like you have enough time or you're burned out – then today's episode is really going to help you. I used to think I wasn't perfect enough to be a perfectionist. And because I didn't realise I was a perfectionist, I had no real way to start overcoming the procrastination, crippling self-doubt and overthinking that was keeping me and my business stuck. Realising that I'm a perfectionist (and what that actually means) gave me a whole new vocabulary that has allowed me to change my life for the better – because it's only when you realise you're a perfectionist that you become empowered to overcome perfectionism. In this episode, I'm opening up about my journey with perfectionism and the important points along the way. I can't remember everything but I hope that what I share in this episode helps you understand yourself a little bit more. This is an episode I've referenced countless times since it was first published. It shares such an important lesson for all entrepreneurs, especially those who have been getting in their own way, that I had to share it again. In this episode I'm helping you explore the areas in your business where you feel like you have your hands tied behind your back. These are the areas in your business where you have a deep desire to take action but aren't letting yourself - either because of a past decision you made, a rule you unconsciously adopted or an expectation you're placing on yourself. Then I'm walking you through how to untie your hands from behind your back, update your decisions and let yourself freely create. In last week's episode, I talked about when following through with the plans we've made with ourselves can be an act of self-care - particularly when you have anything going on in your life that's making operating at your normal capacity a challenge. Today's episode continues that conversation and I talk about when you determine that productivity is *not* an act of self-care and how you can create a sense of completeness even when everything isn't done. Tune in to hear what that can look like for you. By the end of this episode, you'll learn how you can feel like you can switch off from work (whether that's the end of a workday or right before a longer break) - even when the plans you had set for yourself weren't complete. You'll learn about developing the ability to say when enough is enough - and how to make that decision in an empowering way. When is it an act of self-care for me to be productive and when is it an act of self-care instead to change my plans and take clean rest? Especially if you're not operating at your normal capacity. Tune in to hear about the questions that help me figure out whether to follow my plans or not, a trick I use to get myself to do the work I had planned and the highest act of self-care you can do for yourself in a similar situation. I need to remember the Growth v. Success thing.
The passion in this one is palpable. It's the sort of tough love (especially towards the later points) that's still encouraging and kind. Thank you so much for this 💗
unfortunately its so boring, just talking without any topic and structure🙄
