In May of 2023, members of Law Abiding Biker™ Media along with members of the Sworn Few LEMC embarked on a 10-day, 4000-mile, 5-state cross-country motorcycle trip. This trip would take us out of Washington State and into Oregon, California, Arizona, and Nevada. We stayed over in cities such as Redding, California, Furnace Creek, California, Huntington Beach, California,  Las Vegas, Nevada, Reno, Nevada, and Bend, Oregon. Official Website: www.lawabidingbiker.com I saw that Indian came out with the 2023 Sport Chief and I said to myself, "Hey, Indian made a Harley Low Rider S".  Well, it's clearly their answer to compete with Harley in that category of bike anyways.  I had to take a deep look at this bike and break it down for you and give you my thoughts.  How does the Indian Sport Chief match up to the Harley Low Rider S? I really needed to know. I've seen some trying to compare the Sport Chief to the Harley Low Rider ST and I wholeheartedly disagree. I test-rode and reviewed the Low Rider ST last year in Santa Barbara, CA and it's more in the category of sport touring. It has a very large fairing and windshield, an available dash stereo system with speakers, and hard saddlebags. The Sport Chief is more in the category of a sport cruiser with a very small fairing and windshield, no in-dash stereo system or speakers, and no hard saddlebags, just like the Lowrider S. Honestly, those sorts of attitudes just muddy the real conversation and facts.  Understand, that we ride Harleys, Indians, and other metric bikes here on this channel and support all makes and models of motorcycles.  Remember, competition in the motorcycle marketplace is GOOD and benefits all motorcycle enthusiasts. We could really go back and forth on what things the Sport Chief or Low Rider S has that the other doesn't and price out adding a particular item or feature on. But, at the end of the day, we've found that if you make these bikes almost exactly the same with parts and features they are within a couple of hundred dollars of each other. I love my Lowrider S, but I would not think twice about owning the Sport Chief if I had extra money to throw around. I really want to ride this bike and see what it's all about. Unfortunately, it is what it is.  He wanted a smoother ride, better cornering abilities, and adjustable preload and dampening, all of which the Progressive Suspension Monotube Fork Cartridge Kit has!  He was also not happy with the standard manually adjustable rear shocks that Harley has used for many years now on its touring models.  He wanted a smoother ride, better cornering abilities, and adjustable preload and dampening, all of which the 13" Progressive Suspension 490 Sport Heavy Duty Series Shocks have!  WHY LURCH CHOSE 13" SHOCKS: A Harley Street to Road Glide Special comes stock with 12" shocks and you can certainly maintain the 12" when choosing your Progressive Suspension rear shocks from the Law Abiding Biker Store.  By installing the 13" Progressive Suspension rear shocks, Lurch raised the rear of his Road Glide Special 1" which gives him more of a lean angle. It's definitely noticeable when riding. You really can't visually tell the bike has been raised 1". Note that Harley models like the Ultra Classic come stock with 13" shocks. Harley-Davidson has added two very different, but distinctly old-school, motorcycles to its 2026 lineup with the new Deadwood and the return of the legendary Super Glide. Both bikes lean heavily into Harley-Davidson history while combining that styling with the modern Softail platform, Milwaukee-Eight power, selectable ride modes, and current rider-safety technology. The Deadwood is an entirely new name inspired by the stripped-down motorcycles and independent riders associated with the post-World War II era and the Black Hills, while the Super Glide brings back one of the most recognizable names in Harley history. In this episode of the Law Abiding Biker™ Podcast, we break down both motorcycles, what makes them unique, and where they fit in Harley-Davidson's evolving cruiser lineup. Underneath the vintage-inspired styling is a Milwaukee-Eight 117 Classic engine, five-gallon fuel tank, selectable ride modes, and Harley-Davidson Rider Safety Enhancements. Harley says the inspiration goes back to riders who stripped unnecessary parts from their motorcycles after World War II, while the Deadwood name and marketing tie the motorcycle directly to Sturgis and the Black Hills. Fifty-five years after the original 1971 FX Super Glide helped establish the factory-custom concept, Harley has revived the name with a motorcycle designed to immediately remind riders of Willie G. Davidson's original creation. White Onyx Pearl paint, stretched vintage FX tank graphics with red-and-blue striping, extensive chrome, tubeless laced wheels, chrome mini-ape handlebars, mid controls, and a five-gallon teardrop tank deliver the retro look. Power comes from the Milwaukee-Eight 117 Classic, rated by Harley at 98 horsepower and 120 lb-ft of torque in the U.S. specification. Modern touches include selectable ride modes, rider safety enhancements, an adjustable front brake lever, and traditional-looking tank-mounted instrumentation backed by a multifunction LCD display. What really makes the Super Glide stand apart is its exclusivity. Harley-Davidson is producing just 2,500 individually serialized 2026 Super Glide motorcycles worldwide, with the model introduced as a Special Edition celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States. With a U.S. starting MSRP of $15,999, it is also positioned below the Deadwood despite its limited-production status. Together, these two motorcycles show Harley-Davidson taking a decidedly heritage-driven approach: the Deadwood creates a new model around the stripped-down attitude of post-war custom motorcycles and the Black Hills, while the Super Glide resurrects a name and styling cues that helped define factory customization more than half a century ago.
