Hello there! Whether it's your first time listening, or you're a regular: Welcome! I decided that since we heard from the Chamber of Commerce last time, it made sense to learn about the Junior Chamber this week, so here we are with Joe, the acting president of the Jaycees. In this episode, Joe unpacks some answers to questions like: What are the Jaycees? How long have they existed in Kent? Who can join? and What's with the ducks? In this episode, we mentioned so many local businesses. We have an episode with many of them! Go to https://mainstreetkent.org/discover/in-good-company/ to check out our library of episodes and learn more about local businesses we've spotlighted so far! Welcome back to the pod! Today, we're talking with Dennis from the Kent Area Chamber of Commerce. If you haven't heard of Dennis, this is an exciting day for you because after hearing this episode, you'll probably recognize his name and voice all over Kent from now on. I was shocked to know how many cups of coffee he had with local business owners in his first year as executive director of the Chamber! It just goes to show how good he is at listening to business owners' needs…and how caffeinated he must have been that first year! In this episode, we mentioned so many local businesses. We have an episode with many of them! Go to https://mainstreetkent.org/discover/in-good-company/ to check out our library of episodes and learn more about local businesses we've spotlighted so far! Welcome back to the pod! Today, I'm talking with Jessica, one of the owners of Alley Mac. This is a great conversation which I think highlights the common theme of "scappiness" that a lot of our local business owners have as part of their story. I also asked Jessica about her favorite menu items, so you'll get to hear straight from the owner what to try if you're ordering at Alley Mac for the first time! On this episode, we mentioned Sun in Leo. We have an episode with the owner, Justine! If you'd like to listen to it, check out our Season 2 library of episodes at: https://mainstreetkent.org/discover/in-good-company/season-2/ If you'd like to learn more about Alley Mac, you can go to their: Instagram Facebook Website You can also visit Alley Mac at 154 E Main Street Kent, Ohio 44240. Welcome back to the pod! Today, I'm talking with Joy Pahls, a very present gal in our community! She often volunteers for Main Street Kent events, so I've known her for a little bit already. She is also the branch manager for Portage Community Bank in Kent, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to sit with Joy and talk about PCB! Portage Community Bank has been a trusted financial partner in our community since opening its doors in 1998. Welcome back to the pod! Today, we're talking with Emily and Mandy from Maddelena's. From everything they told me, this new Kent business seems to more than live up to the hype! Their goal is to bring fine dining to Kent without a fine dining price tag. I can totally get on board with that! And I know that after you hear their story, you will too! In this episode, we mentioned Bent Tree Coffee. We have an episode with those guys! Go to https://mainstreetkent.org/discover/in-good-company/ to check out our library of episodes and learn more about Bent Tree and other local businesses! Welcome back to the pod! Today's episode is a little idea that started on our City Manager and Community Engagement Coordinator episode from a few weeks ago. It's Taco Takeover! Let's just say that we are a little (a LOT) blessed to have so many great taco joints here in Kent. I love options! Each taco place is great in its own little way and has something special to offer the community. In this episode, I give you an overview of what those are. In this episode, we mentioned several businesses that we've already spotlighted on the pod such as Battleground and Taco Tontos! Go to https://mainstreetkent.org/discover/in-good-company/ to check out our library of episodes and learn more about those businesses! Thank you to Hall-Green for sponsoring this episode. Welcome back to the Kent pod! We are getting back to our traditional interview format today, but with a twist! Instead of chatting with a local business owner, I sat down with Kent's City Manager, Dave Ruller and Community Engagement Coordinator, Dominique Bollenbacher, to chat about all things Kent. This was a fun episode for me because I walked away with a whole new perspective about the people who make things possible in our town from a local government standpoint. It was a great conversation, and I know you'll enjoy it! In this episode, we mention several businesses that we've spotlighted on the podcast before! If you'ld like to listen to those, check out our list of episodes on the podcast website: https://mainstreetkent.org/discover/in-good-company/ If you'd like to connect with the city of Kent, check out their social accounts and website: Facebook YouTube Website Thank you to Hall-Green for sponsoring this episode. Welcome back to the Kent pod! This is our very first "themed" episode! You'll get to hear my take on the five best patios in Kent and why I think they're great. My goal for this episode is to give you some summer evening inspiration. I would love if you made plans with a friend or partner to try out one of these patios after listening. The best part: you'll be supporting a Kent local business during the summer months, the time of year where the lack of university students takes a toll on some businesses, so let's get out there and support them while we enjoy the lovely summer weather! In this episode, I mention several businesses that we've spotlighted on the podcast before! If you'ld like to listen to those, check out our list of episodes on the podcast website: https://mainstreetkent.org/discover/in-good-company/ Thank you to Hall-Green for sponsoring this episode. Welcome back to the Kent pod! Over this summer, I'll be sprinkling some of my favorite hidden gem episodes in with some monologue episodes. This is our first episode of the summer, and it's one of my favorites! Emily from Emu Tile is a true artist, and we are so lucky to have her here in Kent. Her work is so whimsical and stunning, and she does a great job describing it verbally in this podcast episode! I love seeing all her projects on the Emu Tile instagram! Her next ordering window opens soon! Make sure you sign up for Emu Tile email updates and follow her on social media to find out when that is! In this episode, we spoke about Board and Bevy. And we have an episode about them! If you'd like to listen to it, check it out in our Season 2 library of episodes here: https://mainstreetkent.org/discover/in-good-company/season-2/ There's no way you can simply listen to this interview. Welcome back to Kent in Good Company! This is our last episode of Season 3! I'm so grateful to all of you for listening to Kent's organization leader stories. And I'm thrilled for what next season will bring! Season 4 will begin in June, so get ready for some fun, "unconventional" episodes this summer! Today, I spoke with Andra, the executive director of Leadership Portage County. I admit, I did not know much about LPC before this episode, but talking to Andra got me all excited about it! LPC is a great organization for supporting and growing the greater community. I'm excited for you all to learn about it just like I did during this conversation. Welcome back to Kent in Good Company! For today's episode, I spoke with David, the general manager for the Kent State University Hotel & Conference Center. David reminded us that not only is this quality hotel placed perfectly downtown, but it exists to bridge the university and the community. It's a local business with a community purpose just like all the other businesses and organizations we've heard from on this podcast. So go ahead! Invite your friends to come to Kent for a weekend and stay at the hotel, and know that those dollars are going right back into the community, not a big corporate operation. In this episode, we spoke about The Kent Stage. And we have an episode about them! In fact, it's one of my favorites! If you'd like to listen to it, check it out in our Season 2 library of episodes here: https://mainstreetkent.org/discover/in-good-company/season-2/ Check out the Kent State University Hotel & Conference Website or make a reservation at 330-346-0100. Welcome back to Kent in Good Company! I have been waiting for so long to talk about this local organization! We are talking with Julie and Bengt about the Kent Historical Society today! I am a big history buff, and if you are too, this is a great episode to listen to. We chat about some of Kent's rich history and the ways we as a community are celebrating it these days, including a 150th birthday party for the Depot. In this episode, we spoke about North Water Brewing. And we have an episode about them! Welcome back to Kent in Good Company! We are walking a bit down Main Street today to the Kent State University Museum where I spoke to the director, Sarah. Sarah welcomed me into her beautiful office (pictured as the episode artwork), which she later told me used to be the university president's office! It was quite an experience chatting with her in such a historic and beautiful space. Sarah gave a big nod to the history of the museum and expressed her desire to see the community take full advantage of it. I really hope you're inspired to do that after hearing this conversation!
