Description

A podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. I'm a writer, of the book 100 Years of Leeds United, the film Do You Want to Win?, and of loads of things at The Square Ball, where I was also editing the magazine for yonks and talking on the TSB Podcast for years.

I've been reading my writing out loud for subscribers since 2017, and this podcast feed will dip weekly into the archives to republish some of those recordings for free.

From May of 2023/24 — proving that a good night can happen, and that 31 passes sometimes have a point:Where had all this been? There was so much more of it. Twice in a first half minute first Rutter then Gnonto went Maradona mode, slaloming upfield with the ball at their feet, evading tackles, gathering speed towards the goal(s) of the century(ies).  Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. From February of 2022/23 — given he's been rattling Sam Allardyce's cage this week, let's go back to Jesse Marsch's last game in charge of Leeds United:Eleven months in, his confident delivery can't mask the substance of what even Jesse Marsch is saying about his own work: this isn't going very well.  Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. A bit of retro Premiership fun and games here — but with a big question about the new 2001/02 season, and why everyone seemed so unhappy:The fixture was a powder keg filled with fireworks wired up to a detonator in the hands of a toddler. Or Danny Mills, who pushed Ashley Cole over for no reason as he took a throw-in in the fifth minute.  Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. From December of 1997/98 — days after the tragic early passing of Billy Bremner, Leeds went to Chelsea, and gave Leeds fans a performance to be proud of:The half-time stats showed three yellow cards for Chelsea, two red cards and three other players booked for Leeds. There had been one shot at goal. Norman Hunter was spotted in his role commentating for Radio Leeds, 'Grinning all over his face. How he must have loved it.'  Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. From February of 2019/20 — just after defeat to Wigan, I was having thoughts on the state of modern goalkeeping. Thanks, Kiko Casilla:If modern goalkeeping is a matter of passing the ball accurately until you concede a goal to either an unstoppable shot or through either your own or someone else's error and then looking like you don't care, there seems to be nothing to lose.  Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. From January of 2017/18 — when Andrea Radrizzani got very carried away with his passion for graphic design, and tried to design our club's new badge:This design was supposed to be unique, breaking from the past yet rooted in the fan culture that makes Leeds United special. But by removing every trace of previous crests, they removed any connection between this crest and Leeds United Football Club as we have known it.  Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. From January of 2017/18 — Lasogga didn't need to get in the box, and for a moment Felix Wiedwald was my new Bremner:If this was the start of something, we'll look back at these twenty minutes as the origin story, the moment when Thomas Christiansen's Leeds finally declared an end to giving in to adversity.  Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. From January of 2019/20 — just after losing to Sheffield Wednesday, Bielsa's Leeds were off to QPR, with Millwall encroaching on our promotion-chasing heels:The question for Leeds United is, how to exist in hell? To sign the players we want, win the games we want, sing the songs we want? It's what Marching on Together means — a turn inward to ourselves. We can't escape hell, but we can turn our backs on it.  Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. From the start of 2018/19, the match that made what Leeds did to Stoke City actually feel real:Frank Lampard has perfected the in-game suit, the respectful soundbite, and the pensive touchline stance; as Marcelo Bielsa beamed kindly at him at full-time, like a vet about to do what's best for Lampard's favourite pet, Frank looked shocked.  Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. Another from this time in 2018/19, when Marcelo Bielsa was asked afterwards about heart attacks. "When you change the destiny of the game in the last seconds, you have to take into account (that) hazard." Quite so, Marcelo, quite so.  Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. Back to Christmas 2018, and a day only football can give you. Humans have done a lot of damage to this planet over millennia. But over the last 150 years some humans have kicked a football into a net at just the right moment and made it all feel like a price worth paying.  Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. Written and recorded in 2019, about a game from December 1991 that gives a rare glimpse of Howard Wilkinson's great Leeds United midfield — Gordon Strachan, Gary McAllister, David Batty, Gary Speed — in their title winning form.  Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. From 2017, and possibly still relevant now — an essay I wrote about how neglecting Leeds United's past for so long means there is a lot of catching up to do, and that conversations about the merits of one player or another quickly veer into disbelief that Bobby Collins or Jack Charlton or numerous others weren't publicly acknowledged somewhere at Elland Road already.  Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. It's too easily forgotten, I say, that Jesse Marsch took Leeds United to a cup final. This is from December 2022, when the Festa d'Elx trophy was at stake, and nobody knew if a draw meant penalties, a dance-off, competitive hot dog eating or what.  Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. I know Bielsa will always love Newell's the most, and one football fan to another I respect that he'll never change. A match report from 2018/19, when Leeds United 'won' the fairest game of all time after someone put Mateusz Klich in charge and Marcelo Bielsa had to battle Pontus Jansson to put the world to rights.Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. An essay from 2017 when the Thomas Christiansen era was unravelling, Jay-Roy Grot was not scoring, and Andrea Radrizzani's response to defeat at Brentford was to order a lorry-load of white flags.Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons. A report on a game from February 2020, when everything about promotion was going wrong, and Leeds went to Nottingham Forest and even more went wrong. Tony Currie was a symbol of the post-Revie transformation of Leeds United from a clinical winning machine to something more relaxed, and much less effective. Nicer hair, taller floodlights, no more trophies. But what Don Revie had drilled into his players, they now drilled into Tony Currie.Leedsista Libre is a free podcast by Daniel Chapman, aka Moxco/Moscowhite for stupid internet reasons.
