Infamous for its blend of holiday cheer and brutal violence, the film is about a young man named Billy Chapman, who suffers from PTSD after witnessing his parents' murder on Christmas Eve in 1971 by a man dressed as Santa Claus. Combined with his subsequent upbringing in an abusive Catholic orphanage, the Christmas holiday causes a psychological breakdown, as he embarks on a murderous path of punishment while donning a Santa Claus suit of his own.
