This week on CPC, we’re sharing a new episode of the Creative Parenting Podcast with Stasya Mindlina, an event organizer and editor, now part of the Kinder Rave and Creative Parenting Club team, and a single mom who fled Kyiv for Berlin following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In this episode, Stasya speaks about building a life with a young child abroad and navigating the demands of single parenthood. She discusses safety, routine, and the importance of reliable support systems. She also talks about spending time together with her child in everyday life. From moving through the city together to dancing wherever possible, she describes trust, closeness, and moments of fun within daily routines.Creativity appears here as a practical resource rather than an identity, a way to maintain energy and presence while carrying full responsibility for the family.Press play to hear the full conversation.New here? This week on CPC, we’re sharing a new episode of the Creative Parenting Podcast with Rodrigo da Matta, singer, musician, cultural producer, and founder of Bossa FM, a platform dedicated to promoting Brazilian music and culture across Europe.Three years ago, Rodrigo became a father to his daughter Yasmin. Since then, his creative instincts have taken on a new form. Parenting, in his case, looks physical, playful, and improvisational. It’s about presence, movement, humor, and learning how to stay balanced while holding a lot at once. Good morning and welcome back to the Creative Parenting Club. This week on CPC, we’re sharing a new episode of the Creative Parenting Podcast with a special guest: DJ Dmitry, musician, producer, and co-creator of the iconic dance band Deee-Lite.When this conversation was first suggested, we summed it up: “We’ve got ourselves a legend.” And while you might not immediately recognize the name, you definitely know the music. Deee-Lite’s Groove Is in the Heart became a global anthem. This song influenced the sound and visuals of 90s dance culture. This conversation goes beyond Dmitry’s music career and into everyday family life. In Berlin, he’s a parent at Kita pickup, unmistakably funky-well dressed, and raising three kids while continuing to make music with his wife and musical partner.Like so many of our guests, Dmitry doesn’t pretend to have parenthood figured out. He reflects honestly on the process, the contradictions, the limits of time, and the joy. He also reminds us that creative parenting isn’t about perfection, but about showing up, staying patient, and being present.Press play to hear the full conversation.New here? This week on CPC: it’s the return of our Creative Parenting Podcast, with one of our coolest guests yet: author, podcaster, executive coach, and mother of 10 Danusia Malina-Derben.In case you’re not familiar with Danusia or her brilliant Substack Parents Who Think, she’s one of the most inspiring creative parents we have interacted with.As many of us struggle with the challenges of balancing our creative and/or professional selves with our double lives as parents to 1, 2, or maybe 3 kids (listen to the podcast intro for proof), we found it refreshing and energizing to speak with someone who is living out loud, finding balance on a scale most of us would have a hard time comprehending, and bringing all of her worlds together in the process. In our interview, Danusia talked to us about her family story, her professional journey, her creative sleep strategy, and what it’s like preparing to have teen triplets.Press play to hear the full conversation.New here? Hello and welcome back to the Creative Parenting Podcast. In case you're new here, Creative Parenting Club is a global community of creatively-minded parents dedicated to supporting each other through the journey of having a family. If that sounds interesting to you, be sure to find us on Substack to subscribe and connect with creative parents from all over the world. This week’s parent profile is of Ivan Kychatyi, who in addition to being the founder of multiple tech startups, is also the father of a 7 year-old. Ivan and his family are from Ukraine, and although they arrived in Germany years before the Russian invasion, the war has still had a transformational impact on Ivan’s working life.Shortly after Russia launched its invasion in February 2022, Ivan pivoted from his previous startup to co-found UATalents, a platform helping displaced Ukrainians in Germany to find work. Having recently rolled out a new AI cover letter generator, Ivan and his co-founder’s focus has now expanded beyond UATalents — and Ivan has found himself working on lots of big and important things at the same time while also doing his best to continue being present for his family. In our interview, we talked a little bit about UATalents, but we went into even more detail on the more everyday aspects of Ivan’s working life. Although Ivan’s circumstances may be unique, his day-to-day challenges are things that will be familiar to many parents listening. How do you carve out enough working time in the day while also attending to your family obligations? And after a busy day of working on something in the creative and/or professional world that you really care about, how do you detach and make sure that you are fully there again when it’s time to spend time with your kids?Ivan led us to a lot of interesting places in my conversation with him, so turn the volume up and keep it locked here while you do your podcast chores. And be sure to pay extra attention when Ivan talks about how he unintentionally trained his 7 year-old in the art of making a good sales pitch. Hello and welcome back to the Creative Parenting Podcast. In case you're just finding us, Creative Parenting Club is a global community of creatively-minded parents dedicated to supporting each other through the journey of having a family. If that sounds interesting to you, be sure to find us on Substack to subscribe and connect with creative parents from all over the world. Our latest parent profile is of Bryce Seto, a business executive and father of two young girls based in Toronto. Bryce is also the author of Bird’s Eye View, another Substack newsletter which combines perspectives on parenting, mental health, and trying to do lots of things at the same time. What I appreciate first and foremost about Bird’s Eye View is the lighthearted way that Bryce writes about his personal story of being diagnosed with borderline personality disorder several years ago, and his efforts since then to operate at a high level in his daily life while managing his mental health diagnosis. Bryce’s stories always make me laugh while at the same time inspiring me to pursue a similar level of self-awareness and self-improvement.What also strikes me about Bryce, both from his newsletter as well as my conversation with him, is the sheer amount of stuff this guy does. When I was initially discovering Bird’s Eye View I was especially drawn in by his Ultimate Guide to Productivity, which is a hilarious and pretty real take on what it’s like to try to get other things done in your life while you’ve got one or more small children running around.I asked Bryce to talk to us because I’ve been wanting to dig into the topic of men’s mental health for awhile in this space, and because his life as an executive, MBA student, writer, and papa dealing with BPD felt like a good example of the kinds of stories we want to elevate here. Bryce is a parent who is combining his mental health journey with a creative passion while also making time for everything else he’s got going on. It’s an example of how many different kinds of roles creativity can play in one’s life with kids, and how creative outlets can also help us to navigate the other challenges we all face. Please welcome Bryce Seto. Hello and welcome back to the Creative Parenting Podcast. In case you’ve just found us, Creative Parenting Club is a global community of creatively-minded parents dedicated to supporting each other through the journey of having a family. If that sounds interesting to you, find us on Substack and subscribe to get to know more creative parents from around the world. This week’s parent profile is of Panos Divanis, who is responsible for the music you’ve been hearing during the beginning and end of this podcast. Panos is a DJ and producer based here in Berlin. And that’s only his side job. He also works in marketing CRM and is the papa of two little boys. What I found the most interesting about Panos’ journey as a musician is how recently it all began. When I met Panos and heard him play for the first time, I would’ve had no idea that he only began DJing a little over a year-and-a-half ago, and that he started producing tracks only a couple of years before that, when he already had a 3 year-old at home. One of the goals of this newsletter is to show how busy parents can find creative joy in a variety of different ways. It’s always cool to see how parents with small kids, who had creative lives before, find a way to continue doing what they love after this seismic shift in identity, roles, and responsibilities. But I’m also fascinated by stories of parents like Panos who pick up a side passion, like producing music or making other kinds of art, after having kids. As if there’s not already enough stuff to do!In addition to the usual discussions about balancing and integrating creative life with family life, Panos and I talked a lot in our interview about music in general, from producing it to curating it as a DJ. Panos also discussed the interest that his kids have begun to show in his electronic music identity, which culminated in the revelation that Panos' 6 year-old son now recognizes his dad’s tracks when they play in the car. It’s one of the special things about having kids: those moments where you realize that actually, these little protohumans have been paying attention all along. Press play to hear Panos talk more about what it’s like to start producing techno tracks when you’ve already got a kid at home, and how he finds the time and energy to balance everything that he loves. In this episode: Miganoush Magarian, a social entrepreneur based in Hamburg, Germany. Originally from Armenia, Migan grew up in Iran, attended university in Stockholm, and has been living and working in different parts of Germany for over a decade. 8 years ago Miganoush – or Migan as she is known to many – started TeachSurfing.org, a teaching and learning platform connecting schools, universities, and NGOs worldwide with people who want to share knowledge. Migan is also the mom of two young boys and, like some of our other interviewees, is someone I’ve known for a long time since we shared a coworking space in Berlin, and since I myself started being active on the TeachSurfing platform.Entrepreneurship is a topic that’s been on our to-do list for some time. It represents a different type of parent creativity to art or music, but it many ways it also has a lot in common. Parent entrepreneurs juggle a lot of the same challenges as other parent creatives – from finding a way to earn an income doing what you love, to balancing work and family life when work is more than just a job.In our interview Migan and I talked about time management, TeachSurfing before and after having kids, and what it’s like to be a parent while also being a “business parent”.
