Real Stories from Real Life – The Bass’yn Podcast
Created, produced, and hosted by me, Kade.

This isn’t your typical musician podcast.

I take you inside my world of music by sharing the moments that shaped me — growing up in the bush, playing my first gig in high school, breaking countless bones, filling five passports, touring as a pro bassist, drinking ayahuasca in the Amazon, and cheating death in Ecuador. Along the way, I learned Spanish, studied psychotherapy, and mastered the language of music.

I talk audio, the physics of sound, studios, and everything in between with bass players, engineers, and educators — through my own lens: honest, raw, and unfiltered. Every episode is recorded in my home studio in The Basin, at the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges, Australia.

I knew Kello was a legend, but little did I think we’d have so much of the bass world in common. What a privilege and an honour to have had this chat. We dive deep into how Kello got started, and the holistic approach to music. More importantly, we emphasise the importance of being true to oneself in the pursuit of living your passion. Kello has a significant following, he’s dedicated, works hard, is great to watch and listen to, and even better to sit down and chat with. I felt this was almo...
Bass theory, reading music, playing technique…I was on the hunt to find something awesome… In 2013 I didn’t have much mobility; this then spilled into 2014 due to a Moto X accident. That’s how I discovered UK bassist & educator Stuart Clayton and his brand — Bassline Publishing. I still use them today. This episode is very cool; we got to discuss Stuart’s teaching background, how he started Bassline Publishing, and his approach to bass playing in general. If you’re overwhelmed by YouTube ...
What Do a Noble DI, Avalon U5, Modulus Flea Bass, MusicMan Sterling & Warwick Basses Have in Common…? Us, haha.. What an honour to have made this connection and had this chat. Miki is a Spanish legend bassist and founder of Escuela De Bajistas (School of Bass) in Spain. He has over 200k subscribers on YouTube and makes amazing content. We first connected during Covid, but it goes deeper than that - I actually discovered him online while I was in hospital back in 2013. This was an honest a...
What happens when you stop hiding behind gear and face your musical musical insecurities? In this solo episode, I share my journey of building my relationship with my bass – from 70-hour construction weeks and frustration, to creating my studio, launching kadeturner.com, and committing fully to teaching and performing. Real growth comes from confronting weaknesses head-on: live and studio rhythm, sight reading, recording, mixing, creativity. I’ve learned that true satisfaction only comes when...
Pultec EQ? Frequencies? Madonna? Haha — all the true geek stuff we could cram into a short time. I first met mastering engineer Joseph Carra of Crystal Mastering 11 years ago when he mastered my EP Colombia, and we’ve worked together ever since. In this episode, I finally get the chance to ask him what life is really like behind the desk. Joe shares how he shapes mixes into finished records, what mastering actually involves, and why human ears still matter more than AI. Answers, insights, and...

The chances of bumping into another musician who lives on the same mountain out here in The Basin — and then touring with them — is pretty slim. But that’s exactly what happened! Come with us as we chat about living in a cool little town, our late fathers, touring, bands, and the music industry — all while having a Guinness. It was definitely a fun one to record. Thanks for being a legend, Glen, and I’m looking forward to our Chris Cornell tribute! I really hope you enjoy it. Support The Podc...
Very stoked to release this one. I was lucky enough to meet Paul on an Australian tour in 2024 when our bands played at The Forum in Melbourne. We instantly hit it off and became friends. His character and demeanour are unreal, and The Screaming Jets are one of the most iconic Australian rock bands. In this episode, we talk about how we met, his time in the band, and of course, the late Paul Woseen — the Jets' original bassist. Thanks for being such a legend, Paul! I really hope you enjoy it....
What a bloody privilege it is to release this! Jake has been a close friend of mine for 10 years now, and I’ve wanted to do this for a while. We dive into how we met, being in bands, boxing, fitness, mental and physical health, and what it takes to sustain a career in music without getting too jaded by the industry — all while having a serious laugh along the way. Jake is an amazing person, and recording this podcast felt pretty bloody awesome. I really hope you enjoy it. Support The Podcast ...

Welcome to episode 8 of The Bass’yn Podcast. I’ve been blessed to know record producer/engineer Jimi Maroudas for 4 years now. In that time, we’ve worked together on music, spent countless hours communicating, and searched for the most productive paths to draw art out of ourselves and others. Jimi has helped me discover a new level of musicianship and life. He’s worked with Mammal, The Living End, Kimbra, 28 Days, Pete Murray, Olivia Newton-John, Tim Rogers—the list goes on. I loved this geek...
I was walking my dogs in 2020 when I received an email to join Mammal. Amongst gigs and touring, we worked hard on the release of the new album The Penny Drop. This has been one of the most involved and awesome projects I’ve ever had the privilege to be part of. In this episode, I take you sexy legends through my perception, workload, and my bass contribution to this album, creating and recording my parts out here in my home studio in The Basin. It’s a song-by-song walk-through with some laug...
I first met Dylan by chance around 2011 while playing a show in NSW, Australia. Straight away I knew he was an audio production wizard, so in the early days I chased him down (around 2018) to be the mix engineer for kadeturner.com. In this episode, we talk about how we met and the process of creating innovative bass tones. We dive into Dylan’s career as a touring FOH sound engineer, and have a bloody good laugh along the way. We also break down what it takes to craft high-quality bass tones a...
Do you find things when you’re looking for them??? Or do they just fall in your lap when you least expect it? That’s exactly what happened to me in 2020. A simple email changed the course of the last three years of my life. I was out with my dogs on a daily bush-mission walk when I was asked to join Mammal. At first, I said no… then I said yes. Working with record producer Jimi Maroudas has been a blessing. Recording our album The Penny Drop was an experience I bloody loved, and I learned so ...
Have you ever experienced anxiety??? This episode dives into what I went through playing on stage for many years after a life-changing motorcycle accident in 2013. Come with me as I take you through what my reality was like, what I had to do to survive, who I reached out to, and how we fought through something I didn’t believe was possible. I bloody loved making this episode. Life is a short trip, and I know many face silent (or external) battles inside their minds. This was one of the crazie...
Have you ever been in a situation that stretched you to the point of life or death??? Come with me on a life-changing journey over the past 10 years. In this episode, I take you from South America back to Australia in what has been the most intense decade of my life. On August 17, 2013, I hit a truck on my motorbike at 100 km/h in the mountains of Ecuador. My world and perception changed — and it’s never been the same since... P.S. Rob is my close friend and the person I travelled with on thi...
Thank you for the monster response to episode one of The Bass’yn Podcast. In this episode I take you back to 2013 on a life-changing trip through Central and South America. We dive into the mighty “Mother Ayahuasca” and her teachings — a sacred practice used by native South Americans well before the Spanish arrived. The Amazon jungle has always had a huge impact on me, shaping both my life and my music. This was an unforgettable experience, and I’m stoked to share it with you legends. I...
