Below the Surface is a true crime podcast covering a variety of strange and bizarre cases with one common theme; a water connection.  The show features both solved and unsolved cases, some of which are well known, while others have received little attention.   Below the Surface is hosted by Olivia McKenzie (Co host of True Crime Society). Episode 1 Kim Wall  Best known for her articles in the Guardian, New York Times, and Vice, journalist, Kim Wall, disappeared in a submarine beneath the Oresund Strait after interviewing the inventor of the sub, Peter Madsen, on August 10, 2017.  We can only speculate what exactly happened below the surface, but upon the submarine's resurface, Kim was missing, but Peter Madsen was not. Episode 2 Dan Short  In October of 1989, bank president, Dan Short, was found floating in Grand Lake, near Grove Oklahoma, five days after his bank was robbed and he'd gone missing. Episode 3 Debbie Wolfe After completing her Christmas day shift in December, 1984,  28 year old nurse, Debbie Wolfe dropped from sight inexplicably causing those closest to her to worry. She was soon found dead on New year's day, 1985 in a pond behind her Fayetteville, NC home. Investigators ruled her death a tragic accident, but her mother, Jenny, believed that Debbie had been murdered and submerged in the pond to hide her. Several strange clues may back up her suspicions. Episode 4 Susan Smith Many of our listeners may be familiar with the story of Susan Smith. Her case made headlines across the US, and even internationally, in the early 90s when it came to light that she had murdered her two young children by drowning them in her car, before concocting a cover story. Episode 5 Colleen Wood Colleen Wood moved from Dayton, OH to Boca Raton, FL to get a fresh start after losing her job and ending a long term relationship. She viewed it as a chance to lead the life she had always wanted. She settled in and got a new place and landed a new job, and before long, she met a new man that she became interested in. His name was John Paul. He was a Wall Street investor and race car driver, and he shared a love of sailing with Colleen. Unfortunately for her, he also had a very dark past, one that Colleen was not aware of. In December, 2000, 53 year old Colleen boarded John Paul's boat; the Diamond Girl,  to embark on an around the world cruise. Episode 6 Elisa Lam Though a forensic pathologist ruled Elisa Lam's death at the Cecil Hotel as an accidental drowning in 2013, the internet disagreed. Her death fueled the imaginations of thousands of online web sleuths and youtubers who sought the answer to her 'mysterious' end. After a decade of speculation and hundreds of podcasts, videos, and documentaries, Elisa has become less a person and more a legend. Episode 7 The Kettlebell Drownings On February 19th, 2014, New Orleans couple, Kenneth and LaKieffa Joseph went missing and no one could have predicted the twists and turns their case would take before their bodies emerged in the Intracoastal waterway several weeks later.
