Around 10 a.m., we gather for a cozy brunch. In Germany, there’s a lovely tradition of enjoying a special New Year’s pretzel. At our house, we also share our New Year’s wishes with one another, and we finish the day by dancing a waltz together. Spending the evening with my in-laws, the night begins cozily with raclette, followed by a dessert that warms both heart and soul. We welcome the new year by trying our luck with the traditional Bleigießen (lead fortune-telling), enjoying a lively board game, and then counting down together. As the clock strikes midnight, fireworks light up the night sky. And the very first meal of the new year is a comforting bowl of hot goulash soup.
