Description

VOICES is the newest addition to the DOA channel !

This is a podcast where the outdoors comes alive through the people who live it. Each episode brings you face-to-face with hunters, anglers, and adventurers as they share their stories, their lessons, and their voices. More than just tales of the wild, VOICES dives into the person behind the adventure, capturing the grit, gratitude, and wisdom that make outdoor life unforgettable. Available in both audio and video, every conversation is posted on YouTube so you can see and hear the stories as they unfold.

For years, I’ve invited viewers into the raw, unforgettable moments of the outdoors—standing just yards away from big game, feeling the surge of adrenaline as an arrow leaves the string, and sharing the flood of emotions that follow a harvest. Alongside the triumphs, I’ve opened up about the hard lessons and the mental battles that come with facing the wild landscapes of Alberta, Canada. These experiences have built a foundation of authenticity and connection with my audience, and now I’m expanding that journey. VOICES is where I bring in the people whose stories inspire me—hunters, anglers, and adventurers—so together we can share their voices, their challenges, and their outdoor journeys with the community we’re building.

From bow hunting and archery, to rifle, to the pursuit of big game animals like deer, moose, elk, and bear—including the challenge of big horn sheep and rams—VOICES explores the full spectrum of outdoor adventure. We’ll dive into fishing stories, whether it’s battling trout, perch, pike and walleye in open water or braving the chill of ice fishing. Beyond the hunt, the podcast embraces hiking, backpacking, and the rugged beauty of the mountains, always circling back to the inspiration that drives us into the wild. These are the experiences, lessons, and voices that connect us to the outdoors and to each other.

In this episode, I sit down with the one and only Shane Hunts—a self‑filming diehard, a storyteller in his own right, and a guy who brings equal parts wit, grit, and humor to every hunt he touches. We dive into the early roots of his passion for the outdoors, shaped by family influence long before he ever picked up a camera. From there, Shane walks us through the decision to uproot his life and head west to Alberta—a move driven by opportunity, adventure, and the pull of big‑woods whitetails. We get into the art (and chaos) of self‑filming hunts, the discipline it takes to hold out for a buck that matches a very specific vision, and the mindset behind staying patient when the season tests you. Shane’s honesty and humor make this one feel like a campfire conversation—raw, real, and full of good laughs. If you love stories about growth, grit, and the pursuit of something bigger than the tag, you’re going to enjoy this one. Award‑winning bowhunter Logan Johnson joins me for a powerhouse conversation about the future of bowhunting, conservation, and protecting the wild places we love. From the role of the Alberta Bowhunters Association to the boots‑on‑the‑ground work of coyote trapping and predator management, Logan brings a no‑nonsense perspective shaped by years in the field. We dig into his new passion project—3D‑printed replica mounts—and how this technology is changing the way hunters preserve and showcase their trophies. Logan also walks us through a couple of his most memorable trophy whitetail hunts, and the long‑running pursuit of a black bear that has become a personal obsession. If you’re into bowhunting, conservation, wildlife management, Alberta hunting culture, or big‑game storytelling, this episode is loaded with insight and inspiration! In this episode, I sit down with my good friend Darren Cheverie for a conversation that hits every note of what makes the hunting lifestyle so meaningful — the food, the friendships, the emotions, and the unforgettable moments in the wild. We dive deep into the art of cooking wild game and the respect that comes with harvesting your own food. Darren opens up about the powerful bonds built with hunting partners — the kind of friendships forged through early mornings, long sits, shared doubts, and shared triumphs. This one is packed with stories that matter: • Experiencing “firsts” in the field with his daughter by his side including • Harvesting his first bear • Taking his target whitetail with a bow • His first rifle harvest — another milestone shared with her He also shares the story of an unbelievable night where he tags a big bull moose and a whitetail buck within minutes of each other! It’s an episode about more than hunting. It’s about connection, mentorship, gratitude, and the moments that remind us why we return to the woods year after year. If you’re here for wild game cooking, emotional storytelling, or the true meaning of friendship in the outdoors, this is one you won’t want to miss! In this episode of VOICES, I sit down with one of the most recognizable faces in Canadian fishing - the incredible Lisa Roper! Angler, educator, outdoor mentor, and a woman whose passion for the wild runs deeper than the lakes she fishes. What unfolds is an honest, energizing conversation about family, purpose, and the power of sharing what you love with others.Lisa opens up about the roots of her fishing journey, the joy of watching her kids and grandkids grow up outdoors, and the responsibility she feels to help more women step confidently into the wilderness. She also pulls back the curtain on what it really takes to produce a nationally televised fishing show — the long days, the teamwork, the storytelling, and the grit behind every episode. And because it wouldn’t be a Lisa Roper conversation without it, she shares practical, experience‑earned tips for catching walleye — the kind of insights only someone who lives on the water can offer. The episode closes with a moose hunting story that captures everything VOICES stands for: respect for the land, gratitude for the moment, and the quiet lessons the outdoors gives us when we’re paying attention. If you’re drawn to authentic stories, outdoor wisdom, and conversations that leave you thinking long after they end, this one will stay with you!
In this episode, I sit down with Jon Lehman for an in-depth conversation about family, tradition, and the powerful connection that forms when life is lived outdoors. Jon shares meaningful stories about mentoring his young sons in the outdoors, including the emotional and unforgettable experience of watching his son take his first big game harvest—a whitetail deer taken this past season. We discuss what that moment truly represents: responsibility, respect for wildlife, and the passing of hard-earned knowledge from one generation to the next. The conversation also turns to a challenging elk hunting season that tested both patience and perseverance, and how setbacks in the field often become our greatest teachers. Jon reflects on the lessons learned and the drive that keeps him returning to the elk woods year after year. One of the highlights of this episode is Jon’s account of building a log cabin deep in the remote wilderness with a group of close friends. This ambitious project became a gateway into reviving the lost art of trapping, reconnecting with self-reliance, and rediscovering what it truly means to live simply and intentionally in wild places. If you enjoy real hunting stories, backcountry living, wilderness skills, and authentic conversations about life outdoors, this episode delivers!Connect with me on the following social platforms for more!Instagram - @DorwardOutdoorAdventures Facebook - @Dorward Outdoor Adventures #OutdoorPodcast #HuntingPodcast #WhitetailDeer #ElkHunting #WildernessLiving #BackcountryLife #LogCabin #Trapping #CanadianOutdoors #WildNorth #DOAVoices
I'm kicking off the very first episode of VOICES with a guest whose season was nothing short of unforgettable. Tyler Slager, the storyteller and hunter behind On The Blood Trail , joins me to relive the highs, the lessons, and the moments that will stay with him for a lifetime. From the adrenaline-soaked encounter that ended with a bull elk harvested with his bow, to the patience and persistence behind tagging his target whitetail, Tyler brings us right into the heart of his fall season. But the story that rises above them all is years in the making—his emotional, hard-earned journey to connect on his first Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep in the wilds of Alberta. This episode is about more than tags filled. It’s about grit, gratitude, and the deep connection we find in the mountains, the animals, and the people who shape our path. If you love real stories told by real hunters who live it, breathe it, and respect it, you’re in the right place. Welcome to VOICES. Let’s get into it.
