In this episode of the SBI podcast, hosts Dr. Karla Sepulveda and Dr. Alyssa Cubbison welcome Dr. Jessica Leung, professor of diagnostic radiology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, for a deep dive into the newly released BI-RADS® (Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System) update. Drawing on years of committee work and international collaboration, the conversation explores how BI-RADS continues to shape the standardization of breast imaging reporting and clinical decision-making. Dr. Leung highlights key updates, including the removal of the term “developing asymmetry” in mammography while reinforcing its clinical relevance, and the addition of “non-mass lesion” in ultrasound to better align with MRI and contrast-enhanced mammography. The group also discusses evolving MRI terminology, auditing changes that now classify pleomorphic florid LCIS as cancer, and expanded guidance around lymph node assessment. They close with insights on what was intentionally left out—such as AI integration and risk stratification—and how trainees and clinicians alike can use the updated, image-rich manual as both a reference and a learning tool.   The SBI Podcast is produced by Association Briefings.
In this season 2 premiere of the SBI podcast, host Karla Sepulveda welcomes Dr. Peter Eby, FSBI, FACR, professor of clinical radiology at the University of Pennsylvania and president of the Society of Breast Imaging. Together, they explore the clinical, research, and innovation challenges shaping the future of breast imaging, including the evolving role of AI and the growing focus on treatment de-escalation. Dr. Eby also shares insights from his leadership within SBI, highlighting the critical role of advocacy in advancing breast imaging policy. The conversation weaves in personal reflections on what drew both guests to breast radiology, the mentors who influenced their paths, and the importance of collaboration in overcoming barriers and improving patient care.   The SBI Podcast is produced by Association Briefings.   Show notes This episode of the SBI Podcast was recorded in October 2025.  Peter R. He is now Division Chief of Breast Radiology for the University of Pennsylvania. Dr Eby is certified in Advanced Virginia Mason Production System techniques that place the patient first and prioritize value and quality outcomes over quantity. Dr. Eby has published research on breast MRI, mammography and image-guided breast procedures. He serves on the Board of the Society of Breast Imaging, the ACR BI-RADS Committee and chairs the Screening and Emerging Technology Committee for the ACR Breast Commission. Dr. Eby trains medical residents and fellows in clinical breast imaging and image-guided breast interventions.
