Today, as we read through Joshua 9 through 12, we are rejoicing with him and the Israelites as they're finally inhabiting the promised land. God promised to Abraham hundreds of years ago that he would give this land as a reward to Abraham's descendants, and God is faithful. But now Israel needs to be faithful to conquer the Canaanites. We've seen some victories and a few failures. How about you? This podcast started three months ago and you might be able to relate to the Israelites a little bit, having some seasons of victory and sometimes where you fell off a little bit. That's okay! It's not about perfection. It's about a pursuit of a holy God that longs to dwell with you. Today's Reading: Joshua 9-12Scripture Read or Referenced:Joshua 9:3-16Joshua 10:6-14Psalm 116:1-2Psalm 37:17Psalm 145:18Isaiah 65:24Jeremiah 33:31 Peter 3:121 John 5:14-15Joshua 11:6-9Joshua 11:12If our prayers matter so much, as Joshua teaches us, we should be praying the right things for our kids! That's what Entrusted helps you do--and it helps you understand what biblical love looks like in parenting. Today we're beginning the book of Joshua, the lesser known protege to Moses, but he is pivotal in the nation of Israel's story because he allowed the people to finally possess the land that God has been promising them since the time of Abraham. You can't really talk about the Old Testament without talking about what Joshua helped the people accomplish. If you've been with us from the beginning, congratulations because you've already walked through Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, numbers, Deuteronomy, and the Book of Job, and now we're looking at this first book of history.Today's Reading: Joshua 1-4Scripture Read or Referenced:Joshua 1:1-1:9, 16-18Joshua 2:6-14Joshua 3:1, 14-17Joshua 4:1-8aDo you--like Joshua--want to establish habits of teaching your children about God's faithfulness? Today's reading of Deuteronomy 29 through 31 almost feels like an incredibly depressing graduation speech one of the themes seems to be, don't say you weren't warned or don't say you didn't know. Moses knows he's about to die, and he's giving his parting words to the nation of Israel. After 40 years of leading them, watching God do incredible works among them, they're about to enter the Promised Land, but Moses can't go with them. And after years of ministering to them, encouraging them to be faithful to the Lord, God has made Moses aware that they will fall into grave sin and apostasy. They're not going to be faithful to the Lord. What do you think this was like for him? Listen to process it more with me.Today's Reading: Deuteronomy 29 through 31Scripture Read or Referenced:Deuteronomy 29:4Deuteronomy 30:1-3, 6-10, 11Deuteronomy 31:6, 19, 21Romans 10Charlotte Mason Method of Child Training:ππ» I do it and you watch.ππ» I do it and you help.ππ» You do it, and I help.ππ» You do it, and I watch.ππ» You do it, and I check.Find out more here: https://simplycharlottemason.com/blog/habit-training-in-the-early-years-early-years-homeschooling-part-2/Why does obedience matter so much to God? Often it seems Christianity is a balance of contradictions, and that without the Holy Spirit, we can't possibly live within the tension. As much as I want us to embrace that He is a God that longs to dwell with us, we must never forget that he's a holy God that must be revered and honored. In job. I said, often things happen to us that aren't the result of our own sin. But as we read today, it is certainly a biblical principle that we reap what we sow. The warnings in Deuteronomy are terrifying for those who turn away from God. If you can see these warnings coming from the love of a God jealous for His Bride, you'll understand how deeply loves you. If you turn away from him, the best thing he can do is to thwart all your plans and purposes so that you come to the end of yourself and run back to him.Today's Reading: Deuteronomy 26-28Scripture Read or Referenced:Deuteronomy 26:15Deuteronomy 28:1-32, 45-50, 58-63Psalm 16:2Why does obedience matter so much to God? Do you believe we've already gone through 220 chapters of Scripture? I know it's going so fast, but remember, God is the main character of this story. When we go through this quickly, we're able to see patterns like how faithful He is and how He longs to dwell with us. But we also know that there are things we can do to hinder this relationship. Today we look at more civil laws that bring blessing to our walk with God and what hinders it--and what Jesus had to say about it. *This is an episode for mom ears only.We continue to look at the civil laws for the nation of Israel, that it may go well with them. In Deuteronomy 15-18, God's heart for the people to give generously so that there are not poor among them is shown. Next, the process for a servant to become part of a family is described, and then we're told the guidelines for a king of Israel. In the New Testament, Paul embraces the idea that he is a bondservant for Christ, and in Philippians, he writes that Jesus--though He was king--laid down His rights to serve us. It's this example that we have to embrace. Whatever life brings, we can follow the One who first served us. The God of The Bible longs to bless His children. As Israel prepares to enter the Promised Land, Moses continues to give God's instruction for flourishing. You and I may not be held to the ceremonial law, but the heart of these Scriptures--holding fast to the One True God--will ever be our aim. Today we see cautions for friendships and a reminder to recall all that God has done for us to keep our hearts close to Him.Today's Reading: Deuteronomy 11-14Scripture Read or Referenced:Deuteronomy 11:1-32Deuteronomy 12:11Deuteronomy 13:6-81 Corinthians 8:9Deuteronomy 14:24-26Ezekiel 36Do you wish you could talk about the ups and downs of Christian parenting with other moms at your church? We may not know exactly what God is doing in our times of difficulty, but in Deuteronomy 8 we learn that God sometimes tests His people to give them an opportunity to prove the purity of their hearts before Him. Today we're looking at Deuteronomy chapters two through four. In this book of the Bible, Moses is recounting the history of the Nation of Israel and pointing them to faithfulness and obedience in the Promised Land that they're about to cross into without him.Moses asks for something for himself, and God says no, but promises to give the blessing to Joshua instead. Moses continues in faithfulness... can we follow in his example?Scripture Read or Referenced:Deuteronomy 2:7, 11Deuteronomy 3:20, 22-29Deuteronomy 4:1-9You're getting quite the education! Today's Scripture is Numbers 35 through 36, and Deuteronomy 1. The book of Deuteronomy is one of my favorite books in the entire Bible! There are many verses I meditate on that reveal the heart of God. We'll see how much he desires to bless the Israelites and their children. There'll be much to say about parenting, but interestingly, it was one of these verses in Numbers that provided one of the most impactful times I've ever had in The Word.Scripture Read or Referenced:Numbers 35:34Numbers 36:2-7, 102 Corinthians 6:14Deuteronomy 7:3-4, 6Deuteronomy 1:20-21, 36-39You're getting quite the education! Today I'm reminded that these are real people, not just heroes of the faith. Moses and Aaron had many who doubted their leadership, and they were not immune to the hurt of being betrayed by friend, a fellow members of the congregation, or leader. Maybe you can relate?
