Welcome back, sister. In Part 2 of our Deeply Rooted conversation, Nadine Dyer and Carla Sands move from the “why” to the “how”—sharing practical, grace-filled ways to become more firmly grounded in Christ when life feels shaky, loud, or overwhelming. In this episode, we talk about what it actually looks like to grow deeper roots—not through perfection, but through surrender. Carla shares a powerful starting point: letting God “crumble” the false foundations we’ve built on self-sufficiency, approval, performance, or control… so He can replant us in His rich, steady truth. You’ll hear practical encouragement around:What it means to surrender and let God rebuild your foundationSimple daily rhythms that create space to hear God’s voice (even if it’s just 15 minutes)Why being in Scripture matters if you want to recognize God’s voice with clarityHow to root your identity in what God says about you—not what life, trauma, or culture has labeled youThe role of Christ-filled community in staying grounded and avoiding self-deceptionThe difference between “How can I please You?” vs. “How can I glorify You?” (and why that shift changes everything)As we close, Nadine and Carla share the fruit that comes from a deeply rooted life: overflowing joy, contentment, gratitude, and the ability to respond to conflict with grace instead of defensiveness—living out the fruit of the Spirit in a way that becomes increasingly steady over time.If you’ve been longing to feel less tossed around by emotions, circumstances, or expectations—and more anchored in peace, identity, and God’s love—this episode is for you. We’re here with you, and you are not alone. In this follow-up episode, author and Bible teacher Rebecca Hitchcock returns to share practical tools for walking unashamed. Building on Part 1, which covered her story and the concept of "shame clouds" and God’s promise of a “double portion” from Isaiah 61:7, this episode equips listeners with real strategies to begin experiencing freedom.
Rebecca walks listeners through how to:
Recognize signs of shame, including difficulty receiving love or help, compulsive “worthiness hustling,” and being overly sensitive to rejection or criticism.
Speak biblical truth over themselves using identity-focused Scriptures such as 2 Corinthians 5:17 (You are a new creation in Christ) and other affirmations of God's approval, love, and acceptance.
Engage in ongoing mind renewal—replacing lies with God's truth again and again, not as a one-time fix, but as a daily spiritual rhythm.
Acknowledge shame in safe, vulnerable community where shame loses its power in the presence of connection and grace.
Use tools like a shame assessment to begin naming what’s really going on internally and bringing those burdens to God in exchange for the double portion He promises.
Rebecca also touches on the science of how renewing your thoughts impacts your physical body (epigenetics) and how even seasoned believers need to continuously root their identity in Christ rather than their performance. This episode is full of Scripture, compassion, and encouragement to walk in the truth of who God says you are—not what shame tries to tell you.
🎧 Listen now and begin living like the masterpiece God created you to be.
📖 Get Rebecca’s book What I Didn’t Learn in Church at rebeccahitchcock.org (rebeccahitchcock.org). Special Guest: Rebecca Hitchcock.
Content Warning: This episode includes discussion of child sexual assault.
In today’s conversation, Nadine sits down with Rebecca Hitchcock, author of What I Didn't Learn in Church, to unpack the heavy but vital topic of shame. Rebecca vulnerably shares her personal story of experiencing sexual abuse at age five, the lingering shame it caused throughout her life, and how it resurfaced during her struggles with postpartum depression.
Raised in a Christian home and once a high-level fashion director in Chicago, Rebecca eventually left her career to raise her family and pursue deeper spiritual healing. For more than two decades, she has led women’s Bible studies across the Midwest, helping others find freedom in Christ. Her book, What I Didn't Learn in Church, shares many of these lessons and is available at rebeccahitchcock.org (rebeccahitchcock.org).
Rebecca explains how her understanding of God’s Word radically shifted her experience of shame. She invites listeners to stop hustling for worthiness and instead receive the “double portion” of acceptance and identity God offers in Scripture. Together, Nadine and Rebecca walk through key Bible passages that anchor the episode’s message, including:
Isaiah 61:7 — Instead of your shame there shall be a double portion.
2 Corinthians 5:17 — Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.
2 Corinthians 5:21 — He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God.
Matthew 11:28 — Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
This episode reminds every woman that shame has no claim on her life when she stands in Christ’s freedom. Rebecca encourages listeners to take even five minutes to sit with God, ask for His love, and begin exchanging shame for the truth of who they are in Him. Special Guest: Rebecca Hitchcock.
