Description

Hi, I'm Steph. I grew up going to public school and with parents who punched a time clock. I never thought I'd take a different path. Then my high school sweetheart husband dropped out of college and pursued entrepreneurship and a series of circumstances made me reluctant to put my oldest child in public school. Now, I'm a homeschooling mom of 5, a former RN turned jewelry designer & small business owner. I'm sharing everything you need to know when it comes to raising children, homeschooling, motherhood and more.

Today's guest is someone who truly lives out learning through real life. And I think so many of you are going to see yourselves in her story. She's a homeschool and public school mom of four wildly creative kids. And her home sounds a lot like mine, full of messy projects, big ideas, lemonade stands, and kids streaming up businesses right in the playroom. Out of that everyday chaos and curiosity, she created the Society of Child Entrepreneurs. where she helps kids ages 6 through 17 launch real businesses while learning financial literacy, leadership, problem solving, and collaboration in a hands-on way. Welcome back to Home School with Steph. Today's guest is someone whose work brings so much relief and confidence to families, especially homeschooling parents who carry the responsibility of teaching their kids to read. Daniala spent 25 years as an attorney in Washington, DC, before realizing that her real passion was helping children become successful, competent readers. She founded Kids Up Reading Tutors, a nationwide team of herself and 16 specialists who help students overcome reading and spelling challenges, including dyslexia and dysgraphia. Their approach is grounded in the science of reading, Combined structured literacy, and phonological awareness, Morton Gillingham-based multisensory instruction and individualised lessons. What  sets Kids Up apart is their ability to help students make rapid progress, often catching up in months instead of years, in a supportive, judgement-free environment where struggling readers can thrive. Daniela's mission is not just to teach reading, but to transform how kids feel about it. And as a mama who has a struggling reader, this episode was especially helpful to me and I am looking forward to being able to share this conversation with you. Welcome back to Home School with Steph, the podcast that reminds you that you are capable, qualified, and you don't have to do this alone. And if there's an episode that will tell it better, it's going to be this one. Today I'm talking with Meghan. She went from being a genetic DNA sequencing scientist to having two babies in two years, traveling with her husband, and ultimately to building a homeschool life that she absolutely fell in love with. She is the creator of Homeschool Happy Hour, which is a platform for helping moms feel confident, supported, and less alone in their homeschooling journey. We're gonna hear how she made this transition from being a full-time working scientist to a full-time all-in homeschooling mama. And we really get into it in this episode about how we feel about public school and some of the things that we've been conditioned to think we should be doing for our kids and what we really feel is important. This is an episode you're not going to want to miss.  Show Notes: 00:00 Intro 04:21 Transitioning from Science to Homeschooling 07:14 Benefits of Homeschooling 10:03 Overcoming Fears in Homeschooling 13:17 Building a Supportive Community 16:09 Utilizing Resources for Homeschooling 19:02 Impact of Science Background on Homeschooling 21:15 Transitioning to Homeschooling 22:54 Establishing a Homeschool Routine 25:20 Flexibility in Learning 26:46 The Myths of Public Schooling 30:48 The Importance of Individual Learning 36:26 Empowering Mothers in Homeschooling 39:53 Introduction to Homeschooling Confidence 40:22 Encouragement for Homeschooling Mom   Links:  Follow on Meghan on instagram @ podcast_homeschoolhappyhour Finder her on Facebook Listen to her Podcast : Homeschool Happy Hour Find her Homeschool Resources Check out the Homeschooling Village   State Laws for homeschool   Check out my jewelry.
