Welcome to New Health Club podcast. This is where the conversation around the new age of mental wellness begins. I think, that psychedelics will play a big part in this and there is a lot of scientific research happening, plus an industry growing around the topic, as we speak. But what are LSD, magic mushrooms, psilocybin and MDMA or Ketamine exactly doing for our mental health and personal progress in the future? On the “New Health Club Podcast” I talk to real innovators, thought leaders and disrupters from the emerging new world of psychedelics and mental wellness.

This episode gave me goosebumps — and you’ll understand why soon.Today, I’m speaking with the identical twin sisters Cipriana Quann and TK Wonder, hosts of the Chew on Something podcast and founders of Urban Bush Babes, a lifestyle platform celebrating the multi-faceted lives of women of color.Cipriana is a former Vogue writer; TK Wonder is a rapper and singer who’s opened for artists like Nas and Afrika Bambaataa. Together, they’ve starred in campaigns for Fendi, Valentino, Tiffany & Co., Sephora, and more.I first saw them years ago in New York City during my Condé Nast days — two striking women shaping culture and fashion. I never imagined that years later, they’d be sitting on The New Health Club podcast couch in Denver with Joe Moore from Psychedelics Today and me, sharing one of the most powerful healing stories I’ve ever heard.Cipriana and TK open up about surviving sexual, physical, and childhood abuse — and how, for years, they used sugar and comfort food to numb the pain. Their discovery of Ibogaine, a plant medicine known for its deep psychological healing, completely transformed their relationship with their bodies and their health. This is a story about sisterhood, resilience, and the power of psychedelics to help us finally face what we’ve been running from — and heal for good.In this episode:How trauma shapes our relationship with foodThe healing potential of IbogaineFrom fashion icons to wellness voicesWhat real transformation looks like after trauma✨ How we used food to numb our trauma — and how Ibogaine helped us heal from it.INSTAGRAM@CiprianaQuann@TK-Wonder FOLLOW US ON IG@TheNewHealhInstitute @TheNewHealthClub @philippianne LINKEDIN https://www.linkedin.com/in/annephilippi/ Hosted on Acast. Dr. Christopher Timmermann is neuroscientist and co-director of the UCL Centre for Consciousness Research in London. He obtained a BSc in Psychology in Santiago, Chile and an MSc in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of Bologna in Italy. He was also leading one of the first DMT research groups at Imperial College London. His empirical and theoretical work focuses on the neuroscience, psychiatry, psychology, and beliefs of psychedelics, their relationship to consciousness and applications in mental health. The work he has led has been published in high-regarded journals, and has been widely covered by mass media outlets. He also founded and is the director of an educational non-profit in Chile, the ECOH Foundation. He is the expert on 5MeO DMT right, which has been dubbed the “Mount Everest of psychedelics,” and fittingly, Timmermann writes, “its experiences are often referred to as “whiteouts.” But beyond its ability to eliminate the sense of space and time, its most interesting effect lies in the way it dissolves the self. This is key. The question of whether the self is necessary for consciousness to occur has been debated by philosophers for thousands of years — and it remains unsettled. But with 5MeO, something completely different happens: It radically deconstructs all possible worlds, sparing only awareness.IG: christophertimmermannOUR INFO: IG: @the.newhealthclub @thenewhealthinstitute Website: https://www.thenewhealthinstitute.org/ Hosted on Acast. Hadas Alterman is an attorney who co-founded Plant Medicine Law Group, the first psychedelic industry focused law firm. She helped shape the legal psychedelic frameworks in Colorado and Oregon and the professional standards for psychedelic-assisted therapy. She is also working as a the director of legislative strategy for Stand With Us. Our topic today is how we can tolerate and accept very different world views in a conversations. In these times, this seems to be the number one talent we need to come up with human being. So how can psychedelic journeys contribute to this and have us tolerate messy conversations and understand the other camp? Linkedin:https://www.linkedin.com/in/hadasalterman/ Hosted on Acast. Dr. Leor Roseman, Senior Lecturer and Psychedelic Researcher at the University of Exeter, has explore this avenue. His study “Relational Processes in Ayahuasca Groups of Palestinians and Israelis” a few years ago, was fascinating.I read about it in 2021, (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8170481/) and we recorded the first podcast. To me the idea made a lot of sense. Now, with the urgency amid the current situation after October 7th, his work seems more important than ever. In his scientific work Leor examines how psychedelics can serve as peacemaking tools by altering consciousness through a biopsychosocial lens, incorporating neuroscience, psychology, anthropology, and phenom enology. With a background at the Centre for Psychedelic Research at Imperial College London, under Prof. Robin Carhart-Harris and Prof. David Nutt, Leor was curious how psychedelics now can deliver a new peacemaking tool. His foundation Ripples, a non-profit dedicated to peace building supported by psychedelics, is now researching new ideas around understanding, without ignoring the actual conflict. The urgency right now is on the Israel and Palestine Conflict. But his work can be valid for other conflicted parties too. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Today, I am talking with Gul Dolen, a pioneering neuroscientist from Berkeley University and a leading expert in social behavior, psychedelics, and brain plasticity. Gül’s groundbreaking research has uncovered how hormones like oxytocin and serotonin interact in the brain to produce feelings of social connection. She has also explored how psychoactive drugs like MDMA can enhance social behaviors across species, including octopuses. Most recently, her work investigates how psychedelics can reopen critical periods of social reward learning, offering new hope for understanding and treating social disorders. We talk about the reopening of the brain’s critical periods and how MDMA therapy can change your mind.Find more information here.https://psychology.berkeley.edu/people/gul-dolen Hosted on Acast. This is the third special episode I recorded in collaboration with Joe Moore from Psychedelics Today at the largest conference in the field "Psychedelic Science 2025" in Denver last week. It very early in the morning, at 8am, and it was fabulous. Our guests in this episode are the hilarious comedian Dennis Walker, the energetic Co-founder (with Myriam Barthes) and CEO of Journey Clinical Jonathan Sabbagh, Philip Drechsel, my Co-Founder of The New Health Institute, and Tom Feegel, Co-Founder of the ibogaine clinic Beond (with Talia Eisenberg) Joe and I talk about the language of healing and how we communicate this to others, when we need to change all together. As Philip shared his healing story with ibogaine, it became clear what a healing opportunity we could experience here. Today’s episode is particularly special. I recorded this session in our hotel room studio during the Psychedelic Science Conference in Denver. The duo you’ll hear shortly is truly exceptional in their efforts to destigmatize psychedelics, a movement gaining significant momentum right now.My guests are Professor Rachel Yehuda and Governor Rick Perry. Professor Rachel Yehuda is the Director of the Parsons Research Center for Psychedelic Healing at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. She plays a pivotal role in pioneering psychedelic research related to veterans and PTSD.Governor Rick Perry is a prominent American politician and the former governor of Texas. He also served as the 14th U.S. Secretary of Energy from 2017 to 2019. Perry has argued that ibogaine could be an incredible treatment for addiction and PTSD in veterans and has dedicated himself to advancing the public understanding and acceptance of psychedelics. In this episode, we discuss the evolving landscape of psychedelics in the United States, exploring why a bipartisan approach could be a powerful solution for rescheduling psychedelics and expanding access to healing therapies nationwide.IG @rachelyehudaphd @secretaryperry https://www.nga.org/governor/rick-perry/ https://labs.icahn.mssm.edu/yehudalab/yehuda-team/ Hosted on Acast. In this conversation Marissa Feinberg and me explore the intersection of psychedelics and climate action, discussing how psychedelics can foster a sense of oneness with nature and help alleviate eco-anxiety. We delve into the growing recognition of eco-anxiety in psychology, the shift of climate issues from fringe to mainstream, and the role of youth activism through movements like Fridays for Future. The discussion also touches on the importance of community, the impact of personal choices on climate guilt, and the transformative potential of psychedelics in fostering compassion and empathy towards the environment. We also explore the intersection of climate action and psychedelics, discussing the challenges of climate messaging, the importance of community and personal connections, and innovative solutions to environmental issues. So how can psychedelics facilitate self-discovery and a reconnection to nature, while also emphasizing the need for localized climate initiatives and collective healing. Is the west on its own healing journey? Shows like "The White Lotus" and the rise of Ayahuasca in the western world show how much we are in need of tools. But we did not create these tools by ourselves. My guest today, Dr. Sergio Perez Rosal is the perfect partner to talk about the idea of bridging different cultural perspectives, acknowledging both the challenges and teachings from various traditions and how to be aware of reciprocity, if it comes to indigenous cultures. Dr. Sergio Pérez Rosal is a pioneer in integrating traditional medicine with psychedelic treatments. With a background in anesthesia and emergency medicine, he advocates for a holistic approach to mental health. His 'Fundamentals of Health' concept combines psychedelics, lifestyle changes, and mindfulness to enhance well-being. As a faculty member in the University of Ottawa’s Psychedelic and Consciousness Studies program, he leads in psychedelic research and education. Featured in his TEDX talk and outlets like Forbes, Sergio envisions a future where health is cultivated through the transformative power of psychedelics. What you should know: Cultural Crisis: The West faces a crisis not just of mental health but of meaning, driven by materialism and disconnection from spiritual values.Romanticization of Other Cultures: There is a tendency to overly romanticize Eastern and Indigenous cultures as solutions to Western spiritual emptiness, overlooking their complexities and challenges. The use of psychedelics in these cultures Importance of Reciprocity: Engaging with Indigenous practices requires an understanding of reciprocity, respect, and cultural sensitivity, fostering true intercultural exchange.Psychedelic Integration: Successful outcomes from psychedelic experiences depend on proper guidance, intention, and post-experience integration rather than relying solely on the materials themselves.Building Bridges: Initiatives that merge Western and Indigenous perspectives can create a deeper understanding of consciousness and healing, benefiting both communities in navigating the complexities of mental health and spirituality.Check out @search_md on IG Hosted on Acast. This conversation with Talia Eisenberg and Tom Feegel from Beond delves into the evolving landscape of Ibogaine as a treatment for addiction and mental health issues. We discuss the increasing mainstream acceptance of Ibogaine, its cultural and spiritual significance, and the unique experiences it offers compared to other psychedelics. And we emphasize the importance of understanding both the scientific and traditional contexts of Ibogaine, as well as the personal journeys individuals undergo during treatment. We discuss the importance of community support in the healing process, the challenges of navigating relationships post-recovery, and the need for a deeper understanding of addiction as a response to underlying pain. Finally, we share the vision for the future of Beyond, emphasizing the need for expanded access to effective healing technologies and the importance of research and policy change. And we discuss a topic on the rise: addiction. Here are the most important takeaways:Ibogaine’s Growing Acceptance – It is becoming more mainstream with significant potential for addiction and PTSD treatment.Deep Healing & Reset – Ibogaine offers a unique, long-lasting journey (up to 48 hours) that resets brain chemistry and supports emotional healing.Cultural & Spiritual Significance – Understanding its roots and integrating both clinical and spiritual aspects is essential.Commitment to Change – True healing requires a willingness to transform, reframe identity, and navigate shifts in relationships.Community & Support – Peer support and shared experiences enhance the healing journey and prevent isolation.Addiction & Trauma Connection – Addiction often stems from emotional pain, trauma, or spiritual disconnection.Expanding Access – Healing technologies should be democratized, integrated into healthcare, and backed by research and data sharing.Find BEOND here.WEBSITE; https://beondibogaine.com/INSTAGRAM: @beond.us Hosted on Acast. This is probably the most personal podcast & video I recorded so far.Together with my Co-Founder of The New Health Institute Philip von Drechsel I sat down and we both opened up about addiction, trauma and the PTSD we were carrying around in very different ways.Which became the reason why we founded The New Health Institute. Our mission is to change perceptions and lives by advancing knowledge and access to psychedelic mental health care.In the last weeks I was thinking a lot about how much I should talk about my actual story and my trauma. But some things made me do this.having a founding partner that came out with his own story about his addiction listing to Tim Ferris talking about his child abuse healing story and listening to Amy Griffin on Oprah’s book club about her story in “The Tell made me feel validated, brave and ready to talkif we share our trauma, it seems no longer so scary. We can heal from that. In community, in telling others who understandmy recent MDMA assisted therapy session made me loose my shame and fear, that wasn’t mine anyway, so I could finally TALK the insight that the shame belongs to the abusers, not the person that experienced the abusewe should be able to talk about trauma and addiction in a new and normal way. And how psychedelic assisted therapy can help us to heal from it.Please check out:Website: www.thenewhealthinstitute.org Instagram: @thenewhealthinstitute @thenewhealthclub Hosted on Acast.
