Every decision you make in your business has a cover story — the reason you'd say out loud, like "the market's shifting" or "a competitor's charging more" or "my program needs a refresh." And even when that reason is somewhat true, it's almost never why the idea showed up in the first place. In this episode I walk through what's actually happening when a plan arrives fully formed in a single morning: the trigger that started it, the three layers underneath (the surface reason, the emotion, and the fear the emotion is covering), the reflex you reach for when you're triggered — build, rebuild, hide, discount, hire — and the tells that separate a real strategy from a reflex wearing a strategy costume.
Every launch runs on three train tracks — offer creation, funnel building, and audience building and marketing — and you're laying all three at the same time, which is why launching feels so much heavier than it looks on Instagram. I recorded this episode because big launches are everywhere on social right now, and it's easy to assume someone just opened an account, put something up for sale, and made $100K. The truth is, I've been launching for ten years and I still find it hard, so this one is about normalizing the difficulty and untangling the three tracks so you can see which one is actually tripping you up.
Action taking is one of the most valuable personality traits in entrepreneurship — money loves speed, idea to implementation, failing forward — and it's probably a big part of why you're where you are. But in this episode I want to unpack something I'm seeing constantly in coaching: the moment you try to grow, scale, or push through a plateau, that same trait becomes hazardous.
This one's for the fast movers who don't resonate with the perpetual planners, and still can't figure out why they're not where they want to be.
A client told me recently that the strategy I gave them was premature — that I couldn't possibly know their business well enough after a 15-minute call to hand them a plan, and honestly, I understand why it looks that way. But what I have that most people don't is the vantage point of hundreds of private clients, and after all of that pattern recognition, I can tell you there are really only five containers that reliably create predictable revenue online: the high-ticket asynchronous coaching model, the weekly live webinar to a $500–$2,000 offer, the webinar to an application for a $2,500–$5,000 program, live launching, and the biweekly paid workshop. In this episode I walk through all five — the pieces and parts that make each one actually work, the price band each one lives in, and the real downside of each — and then I get into what I think is the actual problem: AI will happily generate you a 50-page marketing plan that looks official and is way, way too complicated, and you will build it, because it looks right. The truth is you need to do one thing really well long enough for it to cook — burner on high, not on low while you anxiously watch the pot — and the thing that trips people up is mistaking the simplicity of the strategy for the simplicity of the execution. If you're sitting on a plan you'd never have built without AI writing it for you, this one's for you.
Someone DM'd me and asked whether selling courses can ever really be sustainable, and I realized we're all using that word to mean something we never say out loud — what she was actually asking is the mortgage test: can I put this income on a loan application, book the vacation, buy the car, and trust that it won't get snatched out from under me?
