Father Shawn McCain Tieres | February 22, 2026In a world of endless corners to turn and constant exhaustion, we medicate our soul's deepest hunger with busyness and self-sufficiency. Father Shawn explores how Lent invites us to stop running long enough to notice our restlessness—and discover that Jesus doesn't wait for us to get it together before meeting us in the wilderness. Drawing from Augustine's famous confession and Jesus' temptation in the desert, this sermon offers hope for the cynical, strength for the weary, and an invitation to receive what we cannot provide for ourselves.---We are a community of believers in South Austin committed to growing in faith and sharing God's love.Join us at www.rezaustin.comInstagramSpotifyApple Podcast
Rev. Janna Osborne | February 18, 2026Rev. Janna Osborne reframes the traditional Lenten practices of fasting, almsgiving, and prayer as radical acts of justice. Rather than simply giving up chocolate or scrolling, what if our hunger awakened us to the deeper hungers around us—for righteousness, dignity, and belonging? This Ash Wednesday sermon challenges us to fast in ways that make us hungry for justice, give in ways that redistribute wealth, and pray with the courage to change what's wrong. It's a call to move beyond personal piety into communal transformation.---We are a community of believers in South Austin committed to growing in faith and sharing God's love.Join us at www.rezaustin.comInstagramSpotifyApple Podcast
Bishop Kai Ryan | February 15, 2026In a time when compassion seems absent from our institutions and darkness threatens to overwhelm us, the story of Jesus's transfiguration offers a lamp shining in a dark place. Through the legacy of Absalom Jones—the first Black Episcopal priest who bought his own freedom—and the revelation on the mountain where Jesus was transfigured, we discover that light eventually reveals the weakness of darkness. This sermon challenges us to remember the story, tell it in our darkest days, and let the morning star rise in our hearts until we find the courage to bear witness to Christ's light in a world that desperately needs it.---We are a community of believers in South Austin committed to growing in faith and sharing God's love.Join us at www.rezaustin.comInstagramSpotifyApple Podcast
Father Shawn McCain Tieres | February 15, 2026We all have mountaintop moments with God—experiences so powerful we wish we could freeze them forever. But like the disciples at the Transfiguration, we're called to descend into the valleys of ordinary life with its troubles and darkness. Father Shawn explores how our encounters with Christ's glory don't just create memories to replay, but actually transfigure us, training us to hear God's voice even when the world is shouting, and to see Jesus not just in the Eucharist but in the broken world around us.---We are a community of believers in South Austin committed to growing in faith and sharing God's love.Join us at www.rezaustin.comInstagramSpotifyApple Podcast
Rev. Eileen O’Brien | February 13, 2026In this powerful ordination sermon for Rev. Scott Madison—the first openly gay Black man sent to seminary and ordained by the Diocese of Texas—the preacher celebrates a day of historic firsts while honoring trailblazers like Absalom Jones. Through the story of Albert Goodson's hymn "We've Come This Far by Faith" and reflections on staying focused on Jesus amid the church's failures, this message calls us to envision a community where everyone brings their whole self, where burdens are shared, and where God walks with us as companion on the journey toward freedom and belonging.---We are a community of believers in South Austin committed to growing in faith and sharing God's love.Join us at www.rezaustin.comInstagramSpotifyApple Podcast
Deacon Scott Madison | February 08, 2026Deacon (for now) Scott Madison shares his powerful confirmation story with Bishop John T. Walker and traces the remarkable legacy of Absalom Jones, the first Black priest in the Episcopal Church. Through personal narrative and historical reflection, this sermon reveals how one person's courage to shine God's light creates ripples across generations—from Jones caring for yellow fever victims in 1793 to the ordination of LGBTQ clergy today. A timely call to let our light shine in defense of immigrants, against injustice, and for all God's children.---We are a community of believers in South Austin committed to growing in faith and sharing God's love.Join us at www.rezaustin.comInstagramSpotifyApple Podcast
Father Shawn McCain Tieres | February 01, 2026In a world of violence and injustice, what does it mean to truly worship God? Father Shawn McCain Tieres confronts the temptation toward neutrality and 'staying out of politics,' arguing that authentic Christian worship—as Micah 6 demands—requires justice, kindness, and humility that shapes our entire lives. Drawing on the witness of Rabbi Heschel, Martin Luther King Jr., and Desmond Tutu, this sermon challenges believers to follow a Jesus who stands unequivocally with the marginalized, even when it's risky, costly, and unpopular.---We are a community of believers in South Austin committed to growing in faith and sharing God's love.Join us at www.rezaustin.comInstagramSpotifyApple Podcast
Janna Osborne | January 04, 2026The cozy nativity scene transforms into a desperate flight to Egypt as the holy family becomes refugees fleeing Herod's violence. This sermon explores Matthew's deeper narrative connecting Jesus's early life to Israel's history and to the 117 million displaced people today. When Joseph risks everything to protect his child, he foreshadows all who would carry Christ into the world—and challenges us to ask: are we protecting the vulnerable in our midst, proclaiming God's kingdom is here?---We are a community of believers in South Austin committed to growing in faith and sharing God's love.Join us at www.rezaustin.comInstagramSpotifyApple Podcast
Father Shawn McCain Tieres | January 18, 2026Even John the Baptist, Jesus's own cousin, confessed 'I myself did not know him' until the Spirit revealed who Jesus truly was. Father Shawn explores how knowing Christ isn't about religious obligation, perfect attendance, or correct beliefs alone—it's about accepting Jesus's invitation to 'come and see.' Through personal testimony and biblical insight, this sermon challenges both lifelong Christians and seekers to recognize that knowing Jesus is a gradual journey of staying close, keeping company with him, and standing with the vulnerable where he stands. Discover why the most dangerous place for a Christian is thinking we have Jesus 'figured out.'---We are a community of believers in South Austin committed to growing in faith and sharing God's love.Join us at www.rezaustin.comInstagramSpotifyApple Podcast
Father Shawn McCain Tieres | January 11, 2026On the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, we explore why Jesus—sinless and perfect—chose to begin his ministry standing in muddy water alongside broken people seeking forgiveness. This sermon unpacks what "God with us" truly means: not a distant consultant available when we need advice, but a God who descends into our mess, stands in solidarity with the struggling and marginalized, and calls us into that same mission. Discover how your baptismal identity as God's beloved child empowers you to renounce evil, seek justice, and express God's love by standing with those who suffer.---We are a community of believers in South Austin committed to growing in faith and sharing God's love.Join us at www.rezaustin.comInstagramSpotifyApple Podcast
Scott Madison | December 28, 2025 In the space between Christmas and New Year's, many of us are "faking it till we make it"—celebrating while grieving, smiling through sadness. After losing his mother this year, Deacon shares how the incarnation speaks directly to those struggling through the holidays. Through Isaiah's promise of salvation, John's revelation of the Word made flesh, and the reality that Jesus "tented" among us to experience our full humanity, we discover that God meets us in our grief and calls us beloved even when we're just trying to get through the day. --- We are a community of believers in South Austin committed to growing in faith and sharing God's love. Father Shawn McCain Tierres | Christmas Eve 2025
We all understand the beauty of Christmas—the joy, the gathering, the adorable pageants. But there's something profound we often overlook: Christmas is about power. Not the power of Caesar Augustus issuing decrees or empires flexing military force, but a radically different kind of power. Tonight, we encounter God's immeasurable power wrapped in cloth, lying in a manger, born to a virgin mother in a backwater town. This is power expressed through humility, vulnerability, and love.
Why would the God of the universe choose to enter the world this way? Not as a conquering king with military parades, but as an accessible baby we can draw near to? Isaiah prophesied about this child—Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace—whose authority would rest on his shoulders. This Christmas Eve, we explore the beautiful mystery of God's humble power and how it shows up not just in Bethlehem, but in our own moments of weakness, brokenness, and need. When we open ourselves to this vulnerable power through wonder, we become part of God's work in the world.
Wherever you are tonight—full of faith or full of doubt, carrying burdens or feeling lost—God delights in you and has come to make a home with you. Let wonder be your doorway into encountering the Christ child this Christmas.
Deacon Scott Madison | December 21, 2025
In a world filled with healthcare crises, violence, and injustice, it's easy to wonder where God is. This Advent sermon explores the profound meaning of Emmanuel—God with us—through Joseph's faithful obedience and God's relentless love demonstrated in Christ. Discover how God is already present in our lives, calling us to embody that divine love for our neighbors even when the world feels godless. A powerful reminder that we don't just wait for God to show up—God is already here, working through us.
Scripture: Isaiah 7:10-16, Psalm 80, Romans 1:1-7, Matthew 1:18-25, John 3:16

Father Shawn McCain Tieres | November 30, 2025 - Advent 1
In a world designed to keep us anxious, distracted, and scrolling, Jesus calls us to "stay awake"—but what does that really mean when we're already exhausted? This Advent sermon explores the crucial difference between being kept awake by algorithms, fear, and endless demands versus choosing to stay awake for hope, love, and God's coming kingdom. Through the lens of baptism and Romans 13, discover how putting on Christ reorients our entire lives toward what truly matters, inviting us to lay down the exhausting work of self-preservation and take up the liberating work of love.

Father Shawn McCain Tieres | November 23, 2025
The world's advice in tough times is always 'save yourself,' but Jesus did the opposite. On the cross, mocked and dying, he refused to save himself—and that's exactly how he became King. This sermon explores Christianity's most counterintuitive mystery: how a crucified God overthrows darkness not through power and self-preservation, but through forgiveness, solidarity, and sacrificial love. What would it look like to trust that Christ is king in the exact place where you're struggling right now?

Father Ryan Boetcher | November 16, 2025
In a world that feels increasingly apocalyptic—filled with war, economic uncertainty, and political turmoil—Jesus offers a surprising perspective on bad news. Drawing from Luke 21, this farewell sermon explores how Jesus transforms our anxiety about the world's chaos into an opportunity to testify. Like the bur oak tree with its deep roots and thick bark that can withstand fire and drought, we're called to be communities that embody healing, joy, and worship even in difficult times. The bad news doesn't get the last word—you do, as you bear witness to the death and resurrection of Jesus in your everyday life.

Father Shawn McCain Tieres | November 09, 2025
Using the relatable image of kids running toward the wrong goal at halftime, this sermon explores how our vision of the future shapes every decision we make today. Drawing from Jesus' encounter with the Sadducees in Luke, we discover that resurrection isn't just a distant hope—it's a present reality that reorients our compass when we feel lost, stressed, or uncertain. If you're wondering where your life is heading or need your direction reset, this message offers the weekly reminder we all need: your life is marked for resurrection, not death.

Father Shawn McCain Tirres | November 2, 2025
On All Saints Day, Father Shawn explores how God's people find courage to act in troubled times, weaving together Halloween joy, community solidarity, and Jesus's radical Sermon on the Plain (Luke 6). When the church raised nearly $3,000 in two days for neighbors facing SNAP benefit cuts, it embodied the kind of "hope stubborn enough to outlast the headlines" that marks true sainthood.
Deacon Scott Madison | October 26, 2025
Deacon Scott unpacks the parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector with refreshing honesty, challenging us to see ourselves in both characters. Through a vulnerable personal story and the powerful reminder that "justice for the oppressed can feel like oppression for the oppressor," he reveals how most of us live in the "mushy middle" of God's grace—part holy, part complicit, but always beloved. Scripture: Luke 18:9-14
Father Shawn McCain Tirres | October 19, 2025
When's the last time you truly wrestled with God—not with polite prayers, but with honest, frustrated demands? Drawing from Jacob's all-night wrestling match and Jesus's parable of the persistent widow, Fr. Shawn challenges us to embrace a faith that refuses to give up, that's unafraid to get our hands dirty with God. This sermon calls us beyond cynicism and into the kind of stubborn, enduring faith grounded in prayer, scripture, and community that God is actually looking for.
