TAPPER (the AMT of AMT THEATER) about life & baseball, theater, music, his love of New York City, his new documentary feature film “THIS ORDINARY THING” and his upcoming new musical, THE PAPARAZZI which opens at AMT Theater in March 2026.About Albert M. TapperWhile attending Boston University, Al Tapper wrote his first musical at the age of 20. Since then, he has written special material for regional productions, composed seven musicals, a ballet, a rhapsody, and a capriccio. He has written two straight plays and four books, and produced three documentary films.Al Tapper composed the ballet “The Seduction of Bathsheba”, whose premiere performance at Mechanics Hall was presented by the Central Massachusetts Symphony Orchestra 1988. Al’s seven musicals have also garnered success throughout the years opening in various cities on the eastern seaboard. Beginning in 1992, “David” opened as a workshop production at 890 Broadway in New York City and in Washington, D.C. in 1994 at the Washington Jewish Theater. His off-Broadway musical, “iMperfect Chemistry”, for which he composed the music and created the story, opened at the Minetta Lane Theater in New York City in April of 2000. The musical revue “From Where I Stand” opened at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in March of 2004. “Sessions” a new musical opened at the Peter Sharp Theater (Playwrights Horizons) and the Algonquin Theater and ran for over 400 performances. It was translated into Spanish and played in Mexico where it won the best musical of the year in 2011. He wrote the musical “An Evening at the Carlyle” which ran at The Algonquin Theater and was reviewed as ‘best show of the Summer’… 2010 by UPI. “National Pastime,” which played at the Keegan Theater in Washington DC in 2011 and was chosen to be considered for a Helen Hayes Award. “All Aboard” which played at the 14th Street Theater. It played again in 2023 with a new score at the AMT Theater in Manhattan. He, along with Tony Sportiello wrote a new musical in 2021 “The Paparazzi” about how tabloid newspapers the internet and TV can cause havoc amongst celebrities in all aspects of society. It played in Guadalajara. Mexico and won for best show of 2022.Al has written four books on humor that were published by Andrews McMeel and Company and MJF Publishing. The books entitled, “A Guy Goes Into a Bar”; “A Minister, a Priest And a Rabbi”; “A Guy Goes Into a Doctor’s Office, and a “A Guy Goes Into a Gym.”In 2013, he wrote a novella called, “Conversations with Max” and in 2021 a short story entitled “Sittin’ On The Stoop” in 2021. In 2023 at the AMT Theater, he wrote “An Unbalanced Mind” a musical show featuring 21 songs written over the many years of his career, and his straight play “Bettingers Luggage” which takes a nostalgic look back, warts and all, at a family business in the old neighborhood of New York’s Lower East Side’s as the generations struggle, love and grow apart. He is currently working on a new musical “UPSIDE/down” written with Tony Sportiello scheduled to open in 2024.Tapper also produced the PBS television special “My Sinatra: The Songs and the Stories” a musical tribute starring Cary Hoffman in 2002.Al Tapper produced the documentary film entitled “Broadway: The Golden Age, By The Legends Who Were There” written and directed by Rick McKay. The film shares the stories of such legendary Broadway stars as Carol Burnett, Angela Lansbury, Shirley MacLaine, Jeremy Irons, Gena Rowlands, Jerry Orbach, Martin Landau, Bea Arthur, Stephen Sondheim, and Eli Wallach and dozens of others, while illustrating their tales with amazing, rare, archival performance footage and their own home movies and photos. “Broadway” has won standing ovations and thirteen Best Film, Documentary and Audience Awards at sold-out screenings at festivals all over the country this past year. He produced Broadway Musicals…A Jewish Legacy written and directed by Michael Kantor about contributions of Jewish composers and lyricists from the beginning of Broadway and still today. The movie presents the views of Hal Prince, Mary Rodgers, Sheldon Harnick, Maury Yeston, The George and Ira Gershwin estate, Jamie Bernstein, John Kander,and numerous other interviews. He won a Peabody Award for this production. His latest film opened on July 23, 2018 on PBS American Masters. Ted Williams…The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived. The movie was previewed on July 17, 2018 at the Baseball All-Star Game in Washington DC. His movie “A Righteous Gentile” a documentary about Gentiles who risked their own lives to save Jews during the Holocaust. ABOUT BOBBY MORESCO: Academy Award winning writer, director and producer Bobby Moresco started out as an actor in New York City, where he was raised in the Hell's Kitchen district of Manhattan, three blocks and a world away from Broadway.After studying acting with the widely respected Wynn Handman and Peggy Fuery, founders of The American Place Theatre and Loft Theatre, respectively, Moresco opened The Actor's Gym in New York and then moved the company to Los Angeles in 1978. Still running today, with locations in LA and NY, the "Gym" specializes in developing new work for stage, film and television. The work created there has gone on to Broadway and garnered many awards including Emmys, Oscars and Golden Globes.Throughout the '90s, Moresco focused much of his time on creating, writing and producing for television. Notable projects included Millenium, which earned him a Genesis Award, and EZ Streets, in 1996, which won the "Viewers for Quality Television Award" for best program of the year, as well as being named one of the best television shows of all time as recently as 2008. In 1998, he co-created and executive produced the critically acclaimed series Falcone, and was nominated for two Emmy Awards. In 2007, Moresco returned to television with The Black Donnelly's, co-creating and executive producing the series for NBC starring Jonathan Tucker and Olivia Wilde.Moresco's latest television work includes The Hundred Code, a series he's created for Kanal 5 in Sweden that began production in April of 2014. Bobby directed the first three episodes of the season. He also recently wrote Whitey, a four hour movie event about the rise and fall of Boston's infamous Whitey Bulger, for Aslyum Entertainment and Spike TV. Whitey is Spike Network's first scripted mini-series. In 2013, Bobby also sold Petrosino, a ten hour mini-series about the true story of New York City's first Italian police officer and his heroic battle to stop the American Mafia in its infancy, to FOX.Moresco's stage work includes writing and directing over 30 plays Off and Off-Off Broadway and fulfilling a childhood dream, he directed Colin Quinn in "An Irish Wake" at the Helen Hayes on Broadway.On the big screen, Moresco co-wrote and produced the breakout film of 2004, CRASH. The drama directed by Paul Haggis and starring an ensemble cast including Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, Sandra Bullock, Brendan Fraser, Ryan Phillipe, Thandie Newton and Ludacris, was released by Lions Gate Films on May 6, 2004. In 2005, at the 78th Academy Awards®, Moresco and Haggis were awarded an Oscar for co-writing the film. In addition to winning in the Original Screenplay category, CRASH won additional Oscars for Best Picture and Achievement in Editing. Moresco also received the WGA, Bafta and Critic's Choice awards for his work on the screenplay.Moresco's other features include, MILLION DOLLAR BABY (2005 Academy Award Winner for Best Picture), which he co-produced and developed with Paul Haggis; and 10TH & WOLF, his directorial debut starring James Marsden, Giovanni Ribisi. He also wrote Intimidation, which he will be producing with Mark Harris. It is set to be directed by Todd Field for Nikkatsu Studios, slated for the first quarter of 2015.CRASH, the film, served as the inspiration for the television series, also entitled Crash on the Starz Network. Moresco executive produced the first season, in addition to directing two episodes. The company quickly grew, attracting actors, designers and technicians from all over the Boston area. Not long after, FUDGE grew to gain recognition alongside some of Boston’s professional companies. Joey earned several IRNE (Independent Reviewers of New England) award nominations, including Best Production: Glory Days, Parade, Spring Awakening; Best Direction: Glory Days, Assassins, Parade, Spring Awakening; Best Choreography: Carousel. Joey also produced and directed several premieres with FUDGE, including I Sing! (Boston Premiere), bare: A Pop Opera (New England Premiere), Nevermore (New England Premiere), Half-Married (World Premiere), Drawin’ on the Walls (World Premiere) and Jack the Ripper: The Whitechapel Musical (World Premiere). Joey made the decision to close the door on The FUDGE Theatre Company in order to move to NYC. These performances consisted of an hour set which combined holiday classics with jazz standards, and to watch how this music resonated with people was really magical.
