Description

Imagination Draw Along is an intentionally calm and low stimulation show for kids who want to draw. I'll guide young artists through drawing prompts, telling stories and sharing history about the topics we draw. Kids are encouraged to use their imaginations and make decisions as they draw. One of the goals is to build self-confidence because we know there's no wrong way to do art!

Hi, I’m your host, Aunt Dewey. I’m a former New York City kindergarten teacher. Now I work in tech teaching adults how to use various software, platforms, and programs. I started Imagination Draw Along because I think a low-stim, screen-free experience is good for kids and aspiring artists. We move slowly on purpose. I encourage listeners to make their own artistic choices as they follow along. It’s a light hearted show that helps build critical thinking skills by guiding the imagination through wonder.

Episodes are 10-15 minutes long.

New episodes will be available every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Thanks for drawing with me today!

Today we'll draw two big happy pigs, rolling in the mud on a farm. It's silly to draw pigs playing in mud so we'll practice keeping our attitudes light and learn that it's okay to laugh at ourselves as we learn.
Today we'll draw Dr. Jane Goodall and a couple of the chimpanzees she studied. This week we celebrate National Woman's Day, so we'll celebrate a beloved woman scientist and her primates she studied so closely.

This episode celebrates our differences and the amazing things that can happen when we practice and remain dedicated to our craft.
Today I want to draw a flying car! Since flying cars aren't real, we get to use extra imagination. While we draw, I'll tell you about the invention of the first airplane and the invention of the first car. When our flying car is in the sky, we'll draw someone we love waving up at us.
Today I want to draw a fire horse for Lunar New Year. This will drawing will show lots Chinese traditions celebrating Lunar New Year. We'll draw our horse next to a cozy fire, red banners for good luck, and fire works to ward off bad luck. There are so many traditions within this tradition that there was no way to cover them all! How do you celebrate Lunar New Year?
Today I want to draw pictures of the technology that US presidents have used to communicate. We'll draw a timeline with a newspaper, a radio, a television, a computer, and a smart phone. I'll share which presidents favored each piece of technology throughout history. When we draw the TV, we'll draw YOU on TV as president!

Today artists draw 5 things they can see out their windows (or follow along with me if you don't have a window). In my case, I see a tree, a bird, my neighbor's house and more! Sometimes if you're feeling stressed or anxious, it helps to notice 5 things you can see. Try it with me today!
Today we're drawing a groundhog and learning about the legend of Groundhog's Day. Did you know groundhogs like to dig burrows with lots of doors? We'll draw a groundhog, their tunnels, and the artist gets to decide if the groundhog sees his shadow.
Today we draw a family of four snow people. Artists get to decide how big or small the snow people are, what types of objects they'll use for arms and smiles, and what kinds of objects they'll hold. I'll also share some stories of snowman history. Did you know they've been around for 1000s of years?
Today we'll draw a self portrait. It's not just a picture of how you look, it's also a picture of how you feel, and all of the things that make you feel like yourself. We'll use our imagination to reflect on what makes each of us special.
