During this episode our host Dr Gabrielle (Elle) Todd is joined by Dr Bernadette (Bernie) Dancy to talk about all things related to work-related stress or burnout. Bernie is a stress management coach, speaker and expert in the field of stress. She has over 15 years of experience studying the science & psychology of stress, health and human performance and has a PhD in sport psychology. Bernie started her career as a University Lecturer almost 25 years ago before experiencing burnout herself. She has since gone on to learn as much as she can about stress in an attempt to not only recover herself but also to help others.
During today’s episode listeners will come away with relatable insights into Bernie’s own experiences of burnout. They will also learn about the physiology behind chronic stress, the different ways it can show up in the body and why it can become dangerous if ignored. It gets even better as during this episode, Bernie gives practical, evidence-based guidance for healthcare professionals on how to navigate work-related stress &/or burnout which including prioritising recovery (sleep, fuel, movement), setting boundaries, using biofeedback wisely and pausing major career decisions until you’re rested.

During this week's episode our host Elle is joined by Dr Joseph Manjaly, a consultant ENT surgeon who specialises in ears and hearing implants. He is Clinical Lead for Adult ENT at the Royal National ENT Hospital & University College London Hospitals. He creates a variety of educational content on social media as @earsurgeonjoe and is the author of a number of popular trainee textbooks, including ‘ENT OSCES’ & 'Advanced ENT Training' both published by CRC press. Alongside being a dad to two young children, he plays in a band that entertains at weddings and conferences in his spare time.
