The Laois minor Ladies reached the Leinster B semi finals following a draw with Longford. The minor footballers lost to Louth but can still reach the knock out phase if they defeat Meath next week. The U-20 hurlers began their Leinster championship with a heartbreaking loss to Offaly. While the U-20 footballers are into the semi finals of the Andrew Corden Cup after a dramatic win over Carlow on Wednesday. Steven Miller is joined by Alan Hartnett to look back on those games and ahead to the Leinster senior football championship meeting between Laois and Offaly on Saturday evening.
There's loads of bits and pieces to talk about on the latest Pick and Mix episode, starting with the relegation of the Laois ladies football team to Division 4 for the first time. Leinster underage championship action and the club football leagues get plenty of discussion while we also have a new Agony Uncle section Ask Alan where we give advice to Laois people who have had enough of the Carlow celebrations after their Division 4 success.
It was an extremely busy weekend of GAA and our Pick and Mix Podcast is here to look back on it all. On the football front, the Laois seniors won in Down while the Ladies lost in Antrim. On the hurling, the Laois seniors defeated London to maintain their 100% record. The camogie team also won but their win over Westmeath wasn't enough to secure a league final. Steven Miller and Alan Hartnett are here for this one where they also look ahead to the Laois minor and U-20 teams starting their Leinster campaigns.
It is most certainly the busiest weekend of the year so far and the Laois Pick and Mix Podcast is here to preview it all. The latest episode of our Pick and Mix Podcast is here where we look back and forward. Steven Miller is joined by Alan Hartnett where the pair begin by reviewing Round 1 of the club football leagues. Last weekend had seven matches in Division 1 and 2 with the lads discussing each of them. After the club chat, attention turns to the only Laois team that are in action this weekend - the footballers. Laois are away to Fermanagh in Round 6 of the National League where a win will keep them in the hunt for promotion. Alan outlines the scenarios required for Laois to clinch promotion and also explains the circumstances in which they could still be relegated.
Over the past number of years, Padraig Dunne has become one of the most recognisable faces on the Laois GAA scene as a highly-regarded referee in both hurling and football. Since taking up the whistle in 2018, he rose up through the ranks quickly, refereeing Laois senior hurling finals in 2020, 2023 and 2024. He was also on the inter-county panel and refereed three big games in Croke Park, including last year's Christy Ring Cup final. But at 47 - and with an inter-county retirement age of 50 - his prospects of climbing higher up on the national ladder were limited. He was also not enjoying at as much as he previously did so he has called time on his refereeing career. He joins us to look back on his refereeing days, the thrill of being part of the big occasions, what it's like behind the scenes and how he's going to fill his time now.
The latest episode of the Laois GAA Pick and Mix Podcast is here and this one starts by looking back at the club championship draws. Just when you thought we couldn't possibly produce any more Podcasts - we have come with one more. The Laois GAA Pick and Mix Podcast is here and this one will go out occasionally free of charge. Often, Steven and Alan have a lot of small bits of GAA news that doesn't really get the time it deserves on the Laois Football and Hurling Podcast. So the Pick and Mix is a space for anything that doesn't make the cut elsewhere. It won't be as regular as the other episodes throughout the season but it will not be behind our paywall. We start here by looking ahead to Laois v Sligo on Valentines Day and also the start of the National Camogie League. Laois are in Division 2 and are away to Kerry - also on Saturday February 14. The lads also talk about the recent exploits of our schools teams, the start of the Kelly Cup and the Laois Ladies minor panel. There is also a club managerial update, a look at the hurling and football panels plus a county board appointment.
