The Bank of England's decisions can have a substantial impact on how much landlords charge and, therefore, how much you spend every month. But how many people really understand this? Fisayo Martins, qualified accountant and founder of the Finance Matters education platform, talks to Jamilla Blake about how changes in Bank Rate can lead to changes in rent prices. She takes us through her experience of renting – or what she calls 'the start of my adulthood' – and how the responsibilities of council tax and utility bills 'catapulted her into the real world'. She also explains how the Renters' Rights Act, which comes into effect in May 2026, will provide more security for tenants in terms of no-fault evictions and price rises.
