The Tampa Bay Rays offense shines in the return to Tropicana field, beating the Cubs 6-4. For the first time in almost 2 years the Rays played a game at Tropicana field and it did not start out great. The Cubs took a 2-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning. Then the Rays offense would explode from there. It started with a 2 run home run by Cedric Mullins to tie the game. Then Yandy Diaz hit a RBI single to take a 3-2 lead. In the 3rd inning Junior Caminero blasted a no doubt home run to make it a 4-2 lead. The Cubs would add a run in the 6th to make it 4-3. But Jonathan Aranda would deliver the dagger with a huge 2 run homer to make it 6-3. The Cubs would add a run in the 9th but it would be to little to late. Shane McClanahan started for the Rays and was up and down. He went 4 IP striking out 5 but allowed 4 walks and 2 runs. The Rays pick up their first series win of the year, beating the Twins 4-1. For the first time in 4 games the Rays did not open the game with the lead. The Twins took the lead in the 2nd inning with a solo home run to make it 1-0. Rays starter Nick Martinez was lights out after that. He finished going 6 IP only allowing that 1 hit and striking out 4. The Rays offense got on the board with Junior Caminero hitting his first home run in the year in the 4th inning to make it 1-1. No team would score again until extra innings. In extras Richie Palacios hit a monster 2 run homer to make it 3-1. Junior Caminero drew a bases loaded walk to make it 4-1. The Rays bullpen would be lights out late to secure the win. The Tampa Bay Rays pick up a big 7-1 win versus the Twins. For the 2nd straight game the Rays opened up a 3-0 lead. A 2 RBI double by Jonathan Aranda gave the Rays that lead. The Rays added another run in the 3rd to make it 4-1. The Rays would then break the game open in the 5th inning. A pair of RBI singles by Ben Williamson and Hunter Feduccia made the game 6-1. The Tampa Bay Rays commit another 3 errors in a 10-4 to the Minnesota Twins. The Rays once again got off to a hot start. Nick Fortes drilled a 2 RBI double in the first inning to make it 2-0. Ben Williamson added a RBI double of his own in the 4th to make it 3-0. Then it all went downhill for the Rays. The Twins tied it in the bottom of the 4th thanks to an error by Carson Williams which could have led to the inning ending double play. The Rays would then fall apart in the 7th inning. In that inning the Rays would surrender: Hit by pitch, 2 errors, 2 bases loaded walks, and a grand slam. All of those would make the game 10-3. The Rays would add a run in the 8th but it would be to little to late. Joe Boyle was one of the few bright spots for the Rays. He went 5.1 IP striking out 9 and only allowing 2 ER. The Tampa Bay Rays drop the second game of the series to the Brewers 6-2. The Rays bats got off to a hot start. For the 2nd straight game the Rays got a solo homer in the first inning. This time it was off the Bat of Jonathan Aranda to make it 1-0. The Rays got another solo home run from Nick Fortes in the 5th inning to make it 2-0. But after that things started to go wrong for the Rays. With the Bases loaded in the bottom of the 5th inning the Brewers hit a 2 RBI single to tie the game. A costly error in the same inning gave the Brewers a 3-2 lead and they would not look back. The Brewers would add 2 runs in the 6th inning, and one in the 8th to make it 6-2 and that would put the game out of reach. Shane McClanahan started for the Rays for the first time in over two years and was solid. He finished with a line of 4.2 IP 2 hits 2 ER and 4 K. The Tampa Bay Rays offense comes through late to propel them to a 3-2 win vs the Milwaukee Brewers. The Rays got the scoring started with the very first batter of the game. Yandy Diaz hit a solo homer to give the Rays an early 1-0 lead. Rays starter Nick Martinez held the Brewers scoreless for the first 5 IP of his outing. He get touched up for a 2 run homer in the 6th which made the game 2-1. But Martinez finished with a strong outing going 6 IP 3 strikeouts and only the 2 runs given up. The Rays immediately tied the game in the top of the 7th on a long home run by Jonny DeLuca. The game remained tied until the top of the 9th inning with 2 outs. After DeLuca worked a fantastic walk, Nick Fortes laced the go ahead double to put the Rays ahead for good. The Tampa Bay Rays pick up their first win of the year, beating the Cardinals 11-7. The Rays offense was on fire early and often. It started with a 3 run 2nd inning capped off by a RBI single by Yandy Diaz. The Rays would add another 3 runs in the 4th inning with 3 RBI doubles by Yandy Diaz, Jonathan Aranda, and Cedric Mullins. The Cardinals would make it interesting with a 3 run homer in the bottom of the 4th to make it 6-4. The Rays bullpen would keep that the score until the 3rd inning. In the top of the 8th inning the Rays had a pair of RBI singles to make it 8-4. Then Cedric Mullins would add a sac fly to make it 9-4. The Cardinals would add 3 runs in the 8th inning to make it 9-7. But a bunt single by Carson Williams and a RBI infield single by Yandy Diaz made it 11-7 and that would be enough to give the Rays the win. The Tampa Bay Rays drop the 2nd game of the series 6-5 to the St. Louis Cardinals. The Rays offense was non existent for the first 8 innings of the game. The Rays would tie the game in a wild 9th inning. It started with a RBI single by Chandler Simpson that made it 4-1. Then it was the Rays standout prospect Carson Williams with a 2 out 2 run single that made it 4-3. Then Nick Fortes continued his hot start to the year with a RBI single with legendary base running by Carson Williams tied the game. The Tampa Bay Rays blow a 6 run lead to lose to the St. Louis Cardinals 9-7. The Rays used a 6 run 6th inning to take a commanding 7-1 lead in the game.
