The New York Mets, behind some dominant pitching, opened up their series against the St. Louis Cardinals with a 4-2 win. It started with Clay Holmes, who found some trouble in the first but settled in nicely and was almost able to finish six solid innings. Then it was the bullpen that picked up the baton and continued the dominance. Tobias Myers gave the Mets multiple innings of work and Devin Williams picked up his first save as a New York Met. Offensively it was a good night for Bo Bichette, who drove in a pair of runs. Jared Young, in his first start of the year, added an RBI double of his own. Kodai Senga takes the bump tomorrow, making his season debut and trying to secure the Mets their second straight series victory. The New York Mets had the chance for the series sweep and a second straight walk-off victory, but their 10th inning comeback fell a run short in the 4-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. Nolan McLean first start of the 2026 campaign was a bumpy one early, but he battled through to give the Mets 5 solid innings. And just like yesterday's clash, this game turned into a battle of the bullpens.  Unlike yesterday, however, the Mets bullpen loss some steam. It wasn't pretty, but the New York Mets secured their first series win of 2026 courtesy of a Luis Robert walk-off three run home run.  On what was a cold and windy day in Queens, pitching was the story early and late. Both David Peterson for the Mets and Mitch Keller for the Pirates found their grooves early and it was a tough day for the lineups.  The Pirates were able to strike first in the 10th, but the Mets put together a rally to tie it in the bottom half of the frame. But, with the bases loaded and no outs, were unable to get the winning run across. Didn't have that on the bingo card, but the New York Mets were able to chase Paul Skenes in the first inning in route to an 11-7 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.  The story of this one: the new look Mets. Debuting a bunch of new faces, it was our first look in season of the new Mets offensive approach. And we saw in that first inning where the Mets were able to (with some help from O'Neil Cruz) chase Skenes in the first after scoring five runs.  Freddy Peralta took the mound for his first start as a Met and he battled through five innings. His nemesis today was Brandon Lowe, who got him for a pair of home runs. He finished the day with 7 strikeouts over his five innings of work.  And last, but not least, it was a great MLB debut for Carson Benge. After perhaps getting the louds cheers in the pre-game introductions, he picked up his first career hit in the form of a home run.  It's already a day off for the Mets, who will be back in action on Saturday against these same Pirates with David Peterson making his first start of the season.
