With this being the first episode in April, Arin and Kris decided they would celebrate Easter with songs that have Cross in the title. “I still don’t know why we’re doing this.” What we are doing is starting a new series about 80’s bands that made albums in the 90’s. We are starting off with Holy Soldier’s Promise Man. After a great debut for the 80’s hair metal enthusiasts and a strong follow up with Last Train, Holy Soldier found themselves in the mid 90’s with a new singer. Promise Man is released and is a shock to fans, as it is a full on grunge album. We have a big task ahead of us, as neither one of us is a grunge fan. Arin tries to be fair to the album and looks for positive things. Music's personal, right? Michael Sweet's voice is iconic. It’s time to talk Stryper again, as we’re up to Reborn for our Stryper album reviews. This time we thought it would be fun to compare it to the updated and redone version; Reborn Again by Michael Sweet. We are also joined by Lee Haley of One Bad Pig. First, Lee shares his journey with One Bad Pig and then reflects on the lasting legacy of Stryper in the Christian rock scene. The discussion, though, isn’t the comparison Arin thought it would be, as Kris admits to listening to only Reborn and it has been a while since Lee listened to the two versions. Holy Soldier’s debut is a defining work of Christian Metal. In this episode, Arin Hancock and Kris Plamondon delve into the legacy of Christian metal band Holy Soldier, focusing on their first two albums. Both albums were produced by David Zaffirro, from their debut pop metal masterpiece to their sort of subdued bluesy Last Train, and both set standards in the scene.
