Have a seat and listen to an all new episode of Cinephomaniacs. We’re talking A24’s new psychological thriller ‘Primetime’!Inspired by true events, ‘Primetime’ follows ‘To Catch a Predator’ host Chris Hansen (Robert Pattinson) over one tumultuous season in 2006. As the show reaches peak popularity, Hansen struggles to meet demand for more exciting perpetrators, all the while dealing with a personal crisis of his own creation. When the walls start to close in on Hansen, audiences will wonder whether he’s motivated by a righteous crusade against evil, a lust for fame, or a bit of both.Documentarian Lance Oppenheim (‘Some Kind of Heaven’, ‘Spermworld’) directs his first narrative feature, with a distinctive visual style that feels ripped right out of a 2000s TV. With a cast that also includes Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo, and Phoebe Bridgers, ‘Primetime’ is tense, scary, and surprisingly funny, and Andrew and Peyton get into all of it, plus mini-reviews of ‘Boogie Nights’ and the new South Korean action sci-fi ‘Hope’.Listen to the newest episode of Cinephomaniacs wherever you get your podcasts!Movies mentioned: https://letterboxd.com/cinephomaniacs/list/every-movie-mentioned-in-cinephomaniacs-episode-20/More of Cinephomaniacs: https://linktr.ee/cinephomaniacsMore of Andrew: https://linktr.ee/andrewlikesmoviesMore of Peyton: https://www.instagram.com/paaaaaayyy/
Andrew and Peyton are joined by their friend and fellow film critic Kyle Flynn to review ‘Resident Evil’ in an all new episode of Cinephomaniacs. In the latest movie from Zach Cregger (‘Barbarian’, ‘Weapons’), Austin Abrams plays a hapless organ transport driver unknowingly caught in the first night of a zombie apocalypse. None of our hosts had ever seen a ‘Resident Evil’ movie before, and they brought a mix of reactions to the newest one. Is it a fun horror comedy that recreates the feeling of playing the game or a dull affair that just feels like holding a dead controller? The discussion also includes reactions to the Palme d’Or winner ‘Fjord’, the upcoming Chris Evans Hollywood satire ‘Sacrifice’, and the right wing Jonathan Majors action film ‘Run Hide Fight: Infidels’.Listen to the newest episode of Cinephomaniacs wherever you get your podcasts!Kyle's Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/kyelus/"[TIFF 2026] Toronto Dispatch #1 – Capsule Reviews" by Kyle Flynn for From the Fourth Row!: https://fromthefourthrow.com/2026/09/16/tiff-2026-toronto-dispatch-1-capsule-reviews/"[TIIFF2026] Toronto Dispatch #2: Capsule Reviews" by Kyle Flynn for From the Fourth Row!: https://fromthefourthrow.com/2026/09/19/tiiff2026-toronto-dispatch-2-capsule-reviews/Movies mentioned: https://letterboxd.com/cinephomaniacs/list/every-movie-mentioned-in-cinephomaniacs-episode-19/More of Cinephomaniacs: https://linktr.ee/cinephomaniacsMore of Andrew: https://linktr.ee/andrewlikesmoviesMore of Peyton: https://www.instagram.com/paaaaaayyy/
Peyton and Andrew review ‘Onslaught’, an action thriller in theaters now. ‘Onslaught’ has been one of their most anticipated movies of the year, and they were ecstatic when A24 invited them to a press screening earlier this month.Adria Arjona (‘Don’t Blink’) stars as a veteran managing a trailer park whose daughter is staying with her for the weekend. When a trio of super soldiers escape a nearby military base and begin killing everything in their path, they soon find they messed with the wrong mom.Dan Stevens (‘Cuckoo’) also stars as the Nazi scientist behind the experiment, and Drew Starkey (‘Outer Banks’) as the government agent trying to cover it up. Adam Wingard (‘The Guest’) directs, returning to horror after directing ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ and ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’.They get into all things ‘Onslaught’, from funny acting choices to some stomach-turning gore. Along the way, we touch on the big Telluride news of Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s Elizabeth Holmes documentary, ‘You Can See Everything’, and Luca Guadagnino’s OpenAI biopic, ‘Artificial’.Movies mentioned: https://letterboxd.com/cinephomaniacs/list/every-movie-mentioned-in-cinephomaniacs-episode-18/'Onslaught' visual inspirations / behind the scenes mood board: https://x.com/Cinephomaniacs/status/2099902056353894650More of Cinephomaniacs: https://linktr.ee/cinephomaniacsMore of Andrew: https://linktr.ee/andrewlikesmoviesMore of Peyton: https://www.instagram.com/paaaaaayyy/
Mmm boy! We mark Andrew’s 30th birthday with a discussion about one of his lifelong favorites, ‘The Iron Giant’!Set in 1950’s Maine, the animated classic follows a precocious and lonely young boy named Hogarth, who desperately wants to make a friend. He soon gets what he wished for in the form of the Giant, a 100-foot-tall metal man.Training a Giant doesn’t prove easy, especially in a Cold War America that sees him only as a threat. The Giant faces a choice: will he be the hero, or the villain the world already sees him as? The movie leaves us with the inspiring message, “You are who you choose to be.”‘The Iron Giant’ originated as ‘The Iron Man’, a series of bedtime stories told by Ted Hughes to his children. Brad Bird (‘The Incredibles’, ‘Ratatouille’) directed the film adaptation, which was released in 1999. Though it was originally a box office failure, ‘The Iron Giant’ has steadily increased in cult classic status, and it’s now consistently ranked as one of the greatest animated movies of all time.Listen to hear our thoughts on the movie, including commentary about its origins and the meaning it holds for Andrew. Plus, we review the new releases ‘Coyote vs. Acme’ and ‘Onslaught’.Movies mentioned: https://letterboxd.com/cinephomaniacs/list/every-movie-mentioned-in-cinephomaniacs-episode-17/More of Cinephomaniacs: https://linktr.ee/cinephomaniacsMore of Andrew: https://linktr.ee/andrewlikesmoviesMore of Peyton: https://www.instagram.com/paaaaaayyy/
Rise and shine, campers, for an all new episode of Cinephomaniacs! Andrew and Peyton review ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’, a new film from Jane Schoenbrun that hit them like a spear through the chest.Hannah Einbinder (‘Hacks’) stars as Kris, a queer horror director tasked with rebooting a classic slasher franchise. Kris meets Billy (Gillian Anderson, ‘The X-Files’), the star of the original Camp Miasma film, leading her on a fantastical journey of sexual discovery that blurs the line between reality and the film franchise she fell in love with.We discuss the film’s genre-bending narrative, the hand-crafted feel of the production design, and the personal story that ‘We’re All Going to the World’s Fair’, ‘I Saw the TV Glow’, and ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’ tell about Jane Schoenbrun's gender identity and sexuality. In movie news, Marvel has chosen their new ‘X-Men’, and Criterion will release Paul Thomas Anderson’s Cameron Winter concert film in theaters this November. Out now, a group of kids find themselves trapped in a children’s show with an orange unicorn in ‘Buddy’ from Casper Kelly (‘Too Many Cooks’). Also, Macon Blair (‘The Toxic Avenger’) directs ‘Idiots’, a black comedy road movie starring Dave Franco, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and Mason Thames.Hear all this and more on the newest episode of Cinephomaniacs.
