Major disaster avoided. An entire plane broke out in applause after a serious scare in the air. Authorities say a co-pilot attacked the pilot, trying to crash the plane before being subdued, leaving a passenger with a bloody face. Now, as Steven Fabian reports, many are asking if it could happen here. And the alleged drugging and gang rape of a Cornell student by seven fraternity members is shining a light on sexual assaults on college campuses. The Cornell incident reportedly happened during what is known as the “red zone,” the start of the fall semester, when the majority of attacks on college campuses occur. As Justin Finch reports, the statistics are shocking. Plus, heart-stopping video shows a surfer getting caught in monster waves and slammed against rocks on the shore. Today, the surfer is beyond thankful to a mom who was taking a relaxing stroll along the beach before her teenage daughter’s birthday party when she jumped into the water fully clothed. And there is a huge development in the story we brought you about a woman who got the shock of her life when she learned her late father’s caretaker took ownership of his house. The caretaker has now been arrested and charged with perjury, breach of trust, and exploitation of a vulnerable adult. The late man’s daughter couldn’t be happier.
Lindsay Clancy was back in court for the first time since her case ended in a mistrial 25 days ago. Her lawyer dropped a bombshell that the murder charges should be dismissed because she never confessed to killing her three children, and there's no evidence to prove it. As Ann Mercogliano reports, this all comes as the lone holdout juror speaks out on camera for the first time. Next, there's growing anger at Cornell University over the alleged drugging and gang rape of a female student by seven fraternity brothers. Now, shocking, just-surfaced texts between the alleged victim and one of the frat boys show him saying things got "way out of hand." Justin Finch is at Cornell with the latest, and we warn you some of the details are graphic. And, there's drama on another college campus - the University of Georgia. In a freak accident, this popular sorority sister, who loves to dance, was doing just that when she fell out of a window eight stories up. Miraculously she survived, leaving even her in disbelief. Jim Moret has the details. Finally, it’s the GoFundMe scandal involving an 81-year-old man delivering lost luggage to help his cancer-stricken wife. We now know things were not as they seemed. But were there clues in the video that something was amiss?
There's nationwide outrage over a scandal at one of the most prestigious schools in the country — Cornell University. The outrage has been building since a female student filed a lawsuit two weeks ago alleging she was drugged and gang-raped in 2024 by seven fraternity brothers. No criminal charges have been filed. Now, the criminal investigation is being reopened and the district attorney says he will let a grand jury decide whether charges are warranted. Ann Mercogliano has the latest. Last week we told you about the outpouring of donations to a GoFundMe set up for an 81-year-old man seen delivering heavy luggage to pay for his wife's cancer treatments. Well, as Alison Hall reports, after questions were raised, those donations are all being refunded. Then, it’s being called one of the dirtiest plays in football. A USC linebacker hit Oregon's quarterback so hard that he suffered a concussion, leaving the game on a stretcher. But the big controversy is over what the linebacker did after the play — celebrating, as team doctors rushed to help the injured player. He later apologized but as Jim Moret reports, the quarterback's coach is calling what happened “disgusting.” Finally, it’s still really wet along the East Coast after a nor'easter brought high winds and a non-stop torrential downpour. The weather was a big dilemma for brides — many canceled, but others went ahead with their big day, even without the cooperation of Mother Nature.
We're learning more about the doctor who was killed in bed while he and his wife were sleeping, attacked by a knife-wielding intruder — their two children fleeing to a neighbor's house. Police say the suspect was psychotic, ranting during the attack. The big question being asked now: did the doctor and his accused killer know each other? Steven Fabian has the latest. Then, there's a big reaction to the video we showed you yesterday of the multi-tasking mom who carried tons of snacks and her baby back to her seat while her husband just sat there. Now, as video of the moment breaks the internet, the mom is breaking her silence about what happened. And, It drew massive TV ratings — "To Catch a Predator," a Dateline series where reporter Chris Hansen confronted suspected child predators. Now it's been made into a movie starring Robert Pattinson, which opens today. But what does the real Chris Hansen think of it? He gave his reaction to Ann Mercogliano. Finally, Taylor Swift's dance card is full! On Sunday night she has to choose between attending the MTV Video Music Awards, where she's getting a major award, or going to the Chiefs game to cheer on her husband.
A family of eight was caught in the crossfire after they exited the airport while waiting for Uber cars to get to a cruise ship in Miami. They took cover, crouching behind a police car as a shooting broke out nearby. And it has happened again: so-called “mole men” were spotted emerging from a Manhattan manhole. Police are taking this incident seriously, as Justin Finch reports, because it happened just feet from the hotel where the prime minister of Israel is staying while delivering his high-stakes speech at the UN. Plus, an 81-year-old man struggles to carry luggage up steep steps, but it is his job. He works 14-hour days making deliveries to pay his wife's medical bills. Now, as Alison Hall reports, his life is about to change. Who shot a 16-year-old high school student named Lilly? The medical examiner did not rule her death a homicide saying it could not determine who pulled the trigger, but her parents say they know who did. Six months later, no one has been charged. Now, her furious mother is speaking with Eva, saying she is fighting for justice.
