Description

Do you want to sew clothes but are worried that the clothes will look homemade?  Are you afraid of wasting your time, money & fabric? Tired of sewing beautiful clothes that never actually get worn, but just hang in the back of the closet?  Do you want to expand your sewing skills but are nervous about trying new techniques?

Welcome to Sew with Confidence! This podcast will help expand your sewing skills, provide guidance in choosing the materials for your next project, and help you confidently sew clothes that you and others will love to wear!

Hi, I’m Lisa, the host of Sew with Confidence and the owner and designer behind Pink Hollybush Designs, a line of sewing patterns for children’s garments. I have been sewing since I was a little girl and my background is in smocking and heirloom sewing. I’ve had my share of sewing fails - garments that didn’t fit, choosing the wrong fabric, and sewing pieces that just weren’t my style or appropriate for my life. I hate the thought of the time and money that has been wasted.

Through trial and error, along with many sewing classes, I have figured out how to sew with confidence. I discovered that choosing the right fabric and sewing techniques can make all the difference between a garment looking homemade or being one that you're proud to wear.

If you are ready to expand your sewing skills, confidently sew clothes that you and others will love to wear, and be part of a supportive sewing community, then fire up that sewing machine, dive into your fabric stash, join me, and let’s Sew with Confidence!

Well today I am thinking Fall even if the temperatures are not cooperating and I have 4 easy to sew woven fabrics for you that will help you through the transition even if you live in an area where it won’t feel like Fall for quite a while. Do you have a fabric store near where you live? If you don’t and then you had the opportunity to finally visit a fabric store, were you able to take advantage of the opportunity? Did you have what you needed with you to make decisions in the time you had or did you get 50 miles down the road and remember the 10 things that you should have picked up? Here in the US, most of us don’t have a nearby fabric store so when we can physically get to one, it’s important to make the most of the opportunity. With a little pre-planning we can do just that. Did you know that Bernina and Husqvarna manufacture over 100 specialty feet for their sewing machines and that Pfaff, Babylock and Janome make at least 60. Did you know that there is such a thing as a twin welting foot for the sewing machine? Typically only a small number of feet come with your sewing machine so you can spend a small fortune on additional feet. But having the right foot can help you achieve accurate sewing and make your garments look more polished. Now if you are someone who regularly applies double cording to your home dec projects then a twin welting foot may be worth it, but for the rest of us who are primarily sewing garments, which are the feet that probably didn’t come with your machine that are worth investing in? In today’s episode I am discussing the feet that didn’t come with my machine but that I reach for almost every time I am sewing a garment. You have worked late into the night to finish that garment that you have been sewing. Maybe you are trying to get it finished for the upcoming trip or special event. You finish up the last details, eagerly go to slip it on and rather than admiring your beautiful self in this new garment - you look in the mirror and its disappointment. The fit is fine - if that were the problem you would dive in and start working to correct that, but that isn’t the problem. It just doesn’t look like you pictured it. It doesn’t move the way you had hoped. It doesn’t really go with that other garment the way you had imagined. It just doesn’t meet your expectations. Now what? Is all lost? In this week’s episode I have 5 tips with a bonus 6 on how to hopefully save that garment and turn it into one you love Resources Mentioned in This Episode: The Free Sew With Confidence Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/sewwithconfidencepodcast The Donny Shirt: https://fridaypatterncompany.com/products/donny-shirt-pdf-pattern?srsltid=AfmBOooY5imulAHjoxJ_OzNPqsQZJ579Ff6O_kuHpBlMKRBJz2cWChKP Donny Shirt Review: https://youtube.com/shorts/onAVInf7XJU?feature=share The Nova Coat: https://papercutpatterns.com/products/nova-coat?srsltid=AfmBOoru0j_BSVWw9Y0iqCsmmOCK-rrYxAvCVT7No2Q8WNSKJEdbJvPj The Nova Coat Review: https://youtu.be/XdZX7qlHneE Own Your Magic Dress: https://patternemporium.com/products/own-your-magic-fitted-dress-with-side-splits-wide-binding-sewing-pattern?srsltid=AfmBOor__3K_FtpF-CCXX87YGa41RCGetj9zyzGAxNu3m1dPkRSOiQIA Own Your Magic Dress Review: https://youtube.com/shorts/oIgaHtA6Ijw?feature=share Other Resources: Join the Free Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/sewwithconfidencepodcast Grab the Free Sewing Essentials Toolkit at https://www.pinkhollybushdesigns.com/toolkit Sign up for the weekly newsletter at  https://www.pinkhollybushdesigns.com/newsletter Interested in Smocking?
