It's an Atlas filled Friday here at LAS as we had Atlas LC midfielder Dan Bucaro on the Going Offsides podcast, while contributor Josh Russell made the case for Atlas Head Coach Ben Rubeor as coach of the year earlier today. Who is Dan Bucaro? Ward Melville - Georgetown The Ward Melville product had an impressive high school career which included a state and national championship (including 57 goals and 30 assists) in 2013. He was a 2x All-American and 3x All-County award winner. He then went on to play at Georgetown where he was a major part of the programs resurgence. As a Hoya he had 226 points in 57 career games, and finished his senior season as an inside lacrosse/USILA All-American and the Big East Attackmen of the Year. MLL - PLL Bucaro was selected 9th overall by the Denver Outlaws in the 2019 MLL draft. He had an incredible season the MLL bubble which ultimately led to his 3rd overall selection by the Atlas LC in the PLL entry draft. As a member of the Atlas Dan has been one of the most consistent options on a high powered offense, as he's secured a point in every game this season. Show Notes We start the show by talking with Dan about his recent experience trying out for the USA 6ixes roster in Lake Placid. Having played two professional games last weekend, he immediately traveled to play another three days of lacrosse in New York. He offers some great insight into the new format and how he feels about the pace and strategy. We then talk with him about his time at Ward Melville and Georgetown and how those places have molded him into the professional he is today. Lastly, we discuss life as a pro and how he's been able to balance his day job as an underwriter with his love for lacrosse and a pro playing career. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lax-all-stars/message
Johns Hopkins Schedule JHU dropped a nugget in July by showing us the incredible schedule they will have this upcoming school year. https://twitter.com/jhumenslacrosse/status/1420834965319688192 Fall 2021 "Johns Hopkins will host a six-team scrimmage day on Sunday, October 24 at Homewood Field.  Along with the Blue Jays, teams schedule to compete at Homewood that day include Harvard, High Point, Hobart, Richmond and Yale.  The full schedule for the day will be available in September and the event will support the HEADstrong Foundation." - Ernie Larossa - Director of Athletic Communications - Johns Hopkins Spring 2022 In what I anticipate to be the toughest schedule in all of college lacrosse this spring, Hopkins has released it's out of conference opponents: Delaware, Georgetown, Jacksonville, Loyola, Navy, North Carolina, Princeton, Syracuse, Towson and Virginia. This is a sink or swim schedule that likely includes only 1 team outside of the top 20, and we don't know who that will be yet. Combined with a tough Big Ten schedule, this year will really season the young Blue Jays and prepare them for post season play. Coaching Hires Gettysburg: Hired long time Penn State assistant Peter Toner who seems like a perfect candidate for the storied D3 program. https://twitter.com/Chris_Jast/status/1419663230268477449 Penn State: To replace Peter Toner who left for Gettysburg, the Nittany Lions tabbed former Colgate head coach, and current Hill School / Whipsnakes LC coach Mike Murphy. This is a huge get for coach Tambroni who was able to quickly fill the open slot with one of the games best minds. Denison: The midwest D3 power made a long term play and selected who we assume will be the coach for many years in Eric Koch. Coach Koch comes from Washington & Lee and is a proven tactician and recruiter. The fan vote is suboptimal. The NLL tv deal is HUGE for exposure and growth. The PLL standings are a disaster and we love it, anyone can beat anyone, all games matter. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lax-all-stars/message

On this weeks podcast Nick and Ryan joined by intern Nick "Peaches" Pietras take a Rabil soundclip and overreact creating city based teams. WHAT IF THE PLL WENT CITY BASED? So it started off by us watching Paul Rabil on Late Night with Seth Myers: https://youtu.be/MqXhgOLaEXU?t=340 At one point Seth asks why the PLL is a touring model and after some thorough explanation from Rabil, Paul did mention that in the future it could be a city-based model. This all of the info we needed as we then jumped into discussions of which teams would fit where. Each of us had our own motivation for picking locations, some of us based it on team identity/mascot/logo while others did it based on roster makeup and head coaches. We even took into account which former MLL teams could possibly return and does that impact what cities we put the current 8 teams? --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lax-all-stars/message
The movie Star So in the early 2000's, Scott, an accomplished field lacrosse player somehow found his way on a plan to shoot a few scenes in a Japanese film called "Drugstore Girl". The movie is about a Japanese girl who loves ends up homeless but happens to love lacrosse. A group of men that help her navigate the streets see he passion for lacrosse and as a sign of respect learn the game, ultimately, and I know how crazy this sounds, challenging a group of Iroquois players to a game. Scott and a group of friends traveled to Japan to shoot scenes for the movie. The Player Is it amazing that Scott Burnam was in a Japanese movie? Yes. However, what's more amazing to me is that he played in 5x world championships for the Iroquois nationals. A Cornell '91 graduate, Scott went on to play in the world games 5x, coach the Iroquois U19 team 2x, and eventually take on the role of GM. We look forward to seeing Scott's involvement in the Iroquois program moving forward. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lax-all-stars/message
With the 2021 college season in the books we broke down each of the games on the men’s side. As we all know by now, the D1 final between Maryland and Virginia was a perfect way to cap off the season. Maryland drew blood early but Virginia was able to punch back and hold on until the bitter end on an amazing and timely save by Alex Rode. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lax-all-stars/message

Jason Levesque is the current D1 Women's Head Coach at St.Bonaventure University. He has had multiple coaching stops in his career, including as an assistant for the Canadian Men's Field team. Talking Sixes Global Significance Sixes lacrosse has been in lacrosse news a lot this week, with the announcement of World Lacrosse's new discipline on Tuesday, the lacrosse industry was torn on how to react. Those of us with international ties understand how hard other countries are working to grow the game and how beneficial Sixes will be in that growth. As Jason said during our interview, the eyeballs an Olympic broadcast would provide creates a new wave of potential fans, players, and coaches. Building a Sixes Roster Full disclosure, neither of us know exactly what the roster limitations will be but we do understand that the rosters will be capped and much smaller than the world games roster of 23. With that being said, we dove a little deeper into what types of players we see being beneficial: traditional 2 way midfielders, guys who grew up playing more attack but transitioned to d-mid in college (happens a lot), BOX players. One unique situation we cant wait to watch play out is Blaze Riorden. Blaze is a world class field goalie and an exceptional forward in the NLL. This means that if you plan to carry 2 goalies, which you should, Blaze could be taking runs out of the cage adding important depth in this new fast paced style of lacrosse. The main point here is, teams will be made up of generalists, guys that can do a little bit of everything (guys like Jeremy Thompson, Zach Currier, Kyle Harrison). Becoming a Women's Coach With an impressive resume as men's coach (Canisius, Alma, Adams State, IMG, Team Canada) what led Jay to becoming a D1 women's head coach? A chance opportunity while working at the IMG academy led to Jay having an increased role helping the women's teams. Over time he grew a stronger and deeper appreciation for the women's game until a familiar friend and mentor (Randy Mearns) brought the vacancy at St.Bonaventure to his attention. It appears Levesque is all in on the women's game and hopes that others will learn to appreciate the game the same way he did. Jason Levesque was hired in 2020 --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lax-all-stars/message
