Description
Small Biz AI Marketing is the podcast for Australian small business owners who want AI to do real marketing work, not just make noise. Hosted by Dan MacInnis, a strategic marketer with 25 years and 500+ small businesses behind her, each episode takes one job you are already doing (emails, blogs, quotes, follow ups, social, your CRM) and shows what happens when AI takes it on. Real accounts, real results, and the bits that went wrong. No tool hype, no jargon. Every episode ends with one prompt or template you can use the same day, free at smallbizpromptshop.com.au. If you run a trade, a clinic, a firm or a shop and you have wondered whether AI is worth your time, this is where you find out. Five to ten minutes, new episodes on Wednesdays. From Small Biz Prompt Shop.

The last of the foundations, and the one Dan promised: a whole process, start to finish, showing how she actually uses AI. The best example turned out to be the one you are listening to. This podcast is a workflow built with AI over five weeks, and it uses everything from the first eighteen episodes. Every episode needs the same twelve things: a recording, the intro and outro and the levels, a clean transcript, show notes and a description for Podomatic that feed Apple, Spotify and Substack, a one-page takeaway designed and uploaded, the podcast page updated, an email to subscribers and a Substack essay. All of it now runs through AI, and what used to take hours takes about forty minutes of Dan's time. She walks the hand-offs: the Friday schedule that plans the next episode, the recording handed to Claude for the mix, the upload to Podomatic that feeds everything else, and what it cost to set up: time the first time, then memory, skills, a knowledge base, brand rules and two connections, and it runs on rules.

The question every business owner asks after reading their own website. Start with a one-minute test: ask ChatGPT and Perplexity to recommend a business like yours in your area, and look for your name. If it is not there, you are in good company. Dan ran the full audit on her own site this year and it scored 53 out of 100 for AI search: a homepage with no headings, 206 thin archive pages out of 386, twelve gibberish URLs and an FAQ that told customers to email a square bracket. Then what AI actually reads: your own site, where structure and specifics matter, and everything else on the web, where a US study found third-party mentions predicted AI visibility better than search strength.
Three fixes in order: the about page rewritten as facts a machine can repeat, structure a machine can read, and one mention a month somewhere that is not your site.Takeaway: The AI Visibility Checklist, one page with the one-minute test, the about page rewrite, the structure checks and the third-party mention list, free. A change of pace. Sixteen episodes in, the set-up is done and the decisions are on the table, so before the real-business episodes start at 20, here is the cheat sheet. Ten quick wins you can do this week: the first and last line rule, paste the enquiry not the brief, the good and bad pair, ask for the questions before the answer, the second-tool check, repurpose from your own transcript, one sentence of context over ten instructions, a two-section Monday dashboard, write the never list first, and run the go or no-go before the quote. Five things to watch out for: it agrees with you, wrong sounds like right, always allow, names in the chat, and the same work faster. And the five questions Dan still gets asked most, answered straight: which tool, do I need the paid plan, is my client work safe, will it sound like everyone else, and where do I start.

The decision most small businesses avoid. Not because the offer is not selling, but because AI is about to sell it cheaper than you can, and the hours you get back are worth more somewhere else. Australian research this year found businesses using AI products growing about two point eight times faster than those not, while Treasury called Australian uptake widespread but shallow: most businesses are doing the same work faster, and the ones growing are doing different work.
Dan sets up the same sparring project as the last five episodes with a year of invoices, and sorts every offer into three columns. Stop or shrink: anything where the value was information or a first draft. Repackage: three moves, from deliverable to decision, from done-for-you to done-with-you, from output to accountability. Sell instead: the audit, the implementation, the strategy day you could never afford to sell while first-draft work ate the week. And where this podcast goes next: from episode 20, real businesses where this has been done, and what it did to the numbers.
Takeaway: The Stop-Selling Test, one page with the three columns, the instruction, the three repackaging moves and one question per offer, free at #REPLACE Drive link. All the training so far is free in video at smallbizpromptshop.com.au/free-ai-training-for-smb.

The question that stops more owners than any other. Some will not paste an email into a chat window; some have pasted their whole client list in without thinking. Both are wrong, and the fix is the same. Dan starts with the Australian regulator's stated best practice, do not put personal information, especially sensitive information, into publicly available AI tools, and the honest shape of what happens to what you type: on consumer plans your chats may be used for training unless you switch it off, business plans generally do not, and switching training off is not deletion. Then three lines for data: goes in freely (your own material), goes in with names removed (the enquiry, the complaint, the proposal), never goes in (health, bank and ID details, passwords, anything given in confidence, and banking connections). Plus the three questions to ask before connecting any tool, the private-mode habit for one-offs, and why you write a house rule your staff can repeat rather than banning the tools they are already using.
