Do you ever sit around with your friends, enjoying a cocktail and discussing 80s music? So do we...but we record it and share it with the world. Pat and Dave break down the songs of the 80s that they are embarrassed that they like. As usual, the conversation takes some serious twists and turns, and it seems to go off the rails even more as the drinks flow a little more steadily. They talk about Rod Stewart, Brazilian Samba music, Kix, and Dexys Midnight Runners among many others. They also take a WAY too deep of a dive into maybe the worst movie ever made (but with some of the best actors of the 80s). And lastly, they discuss the pros and cons of orange flavored Irish Whiskey. So once again, grab a cocktail and enjoy this latest episode of 80s Classics and Cocktails!
After a two year hiatus, Dave and Pat are back in the studio to kick off the anticipated Season 3 of 80s Classics and Cocktails. The guys break down all things Def Leppard (from the 80s of course), from their classic albums Pyromania and Hysteria, to their videos, outfits and how they played a huge role at every 8th grade dance in 1987. They also discuss Guinness, Costco brand tequila, and Dave's run-ins with The Jackknife Kids of Richfield, MN. So, grab a drink and enjoy the first episode of Season 3 of 80s Classics and Cocktails!
All it took was a major worldwide pandemic to get Dave and Pat back together (virtually) to discuss 80s music once again. It's been almost a year since the last episode. Since we are all stuck inside, the guys decided to lighten the mood by talking about the songs of the 80s that were all about being alone, lonely, by yourself... well you get the idea. So grab a cocktail and listen to the guys walk down memory lane and hopefully bring you a laugh or two. You will hear a little Tiffany, Heart, De La Soul, and Dokken, in this episode just to name a few. Stay safe out there everybody! Together we will get through this.
Pat and Dave open Season 2 by going back to where the podcast started...the cabin in the great north woods of MN. We all remember the carefree summer days of our youth and how music always played a HUGE role in setting the mood. Whether it was a rainy summer day or hot summer night, these songs will bring your right back to the days of your youth. Pat and Dave discuss songs by artists such as Van Halen, Eric Carmen, The Cars, Duran Duran, Bananarama, and Miami Sound Machine. And they have a few surprise guests!
Do you want to know what Dave and Pat sounded like in the mid-80s? Well, here is your chance. To help announce the arrival of Season 2 of 80s Classics and Cocktails, Dave and Pat welcome some of the best guests that they could ever have. Get ready! Summer is starting and the guys are going back to where it all started...the cabin on Gull Lake. Season 2 promises to be a fun ride, with special guests, great songs, and many 80s memories guaranteed to bring you right back to your youth!
Join Pat and Dave as they take a deep dive into the songs that made the 1980s movie soundtracks the 'must-have" albums of the time. From the John Hughes movies to Better Off Dead to Secret of My Success, the guys will break down the songs that define the iconic scenes of our favorite 80s movies. As always, things go off the rails a little as the cocktails start to flow. So grab your favorite drink, sit back and enjoy!*This is a re-release of a previous episode. We will have a new episode published soon!
Originally aired on January 17, 2019. Pat and Dave discuss the artists of the 1980s that deserved more love than they were given. ABC, Howard Jones, Haircut 100, and Kool and the Gang to name a few. Enjoy!
Originally aired on November 14, 2018. Pat and Dave discuss and debate the best saxophone jams of the 1980s. As you may notice, we had not developed the 80s Classics and Cocktails name yet, but we had already done away with the name "The 80s Music Rabbit Hole"....that was awful and way too hard to say. Not that we do any better with saying "Classics and Cocktails" in later episodes, but that probably has more to do with the amount of cocktails consumed.Enjoy!
Pat and Dave have decided to re-release the 80s Classics and Cocktails episodes. Except for the 1983 episode. If Dave has his way, that one will never be heard again....This episode was our first attempt at a podcast. We didn't have a clue what we were going to talk about or where it was going to lead us. All we had planned was to open with Paul Carrack's "Don't Shed a Tear" and go from there. We hope you enjoy listening againOriginally released on 8/16/2018We will be re-releasing the majority of the episodes over the next month or so. Enjoy! We hope that by doing this, we can put a smile on people's faces during this time of uncertainty. Stay healthy out there and be smart. We will get through this together.Cheers, Pat and Dave
This is an encore presentation of our Prince in the 80s podcast with our favorite Prince expert, Mike Stewart. The episode originally aired on March 18, 2019.
In this episode (Season 1, Ep. 4) Pat and Dave discuss the artists of their youth that they wish they heard more often. Did these artists get the amount of airplay that they deserved? This episode originally aired on Feb. 12, 2019.
In this episode, we welcome a very special guest to the podcast. Our good friend Ben Leber (former NFL linebacker and current radio and TV broadcaster) joins us to discuss his memories of growing up in the 80s in the small towns of Albia, IA and Vermillion, SD. From busting snow drifts to snuggling with his Pound Puppy, Ben hits on all sides of his 80s experience. So grab a cocktail and listen to this very special episode of 80s Classics and Cocktails.
In this episode, the guys discuss their favorite songs from the movie soundtracks of the 1980s. Just like always, they tell some great stories about why these songs are meaningful to them, and why (most) of these songs have stood the test of time. After listening to this episode, you will want to break out your VHS or Betamax player and re-watch some of the great movies of your youth. They also develop a drinking game that will make your listening experience even better! So grab your favorite cocktail, and enjoy the trip down memory lane again!
(Encore Presentation) This is a re-cast of episode 2 of 80s Classics and Cocktails. Due to spring travels, we are still working on our next episode. Also, we are so pleased with the number of new listeners thanks in part to The Prince Episode we wanted to give you all a chance to hear another archived episode. Thanks for all the support. Enjoy Sax Jams one more time!
(Encore Presentation) This is a re-cast of the pilot episode of 80s Classics and Cocktails. We are so pleased with the number of new listeners we wanted to give them a chance to hear the original.
This is by far THE coolest episode we've done yet! We were lucky enough to visit the home of Mike Stewart "The biggest Prince fan you'll ever meet, besides this one other guy" to see his extensive collection of Prince Records, CDs, VHS, DVDs, mags, art bootlegs, and other Memorabilia. Mike schooled us on the Genius behind The Purple One. We explore just how deep the Vault goes into the 80s and can't wait to hear more! We hope you love this episode as much as we do.
As you know, the 1980's was a decade filled with great music, but there are a few songs that should be left off your playlist. In this episode, the guys discuss (and argue over) which songs those are. Take a listen as PK gets a little feisty over some of Dave's picks. Enjoy!
Pour yourself a Hamm's and enjoy our 1980's Under-rated artists episode, where we discuss everything from funk to pop, and from Irish cream to American whiskey. Oh, and we drink some of those items too. Enjoy!
We aren't sure that you will learn a whole lot in Part 2 of our 1983 episode, but we hope that you will have as much fun listening to it as we had while recording it. Definitely store this one in the Toy Department. It goes a little off the rails...bear with us!In this episode, we debate the merits of bands like Huey Lewis and the News, The Police, Kajagoogoo and The Fixx. We also have our first Long Distance Dedication that you won't want to miss. Most of the discussions lead us nowhere, but that's what this podcast is all about! We will get back to being a little more coherent in Episode 4, but for now enjoy the conclusion to this rather tipsy discussion of the year in music, 1983.Please listen responsibly!twitter: @80s_podcast
Do you have a favorite year in music? Well, whatever year that is, its wrong! 1983 is the best year in pop music (period)! Well, ok just our opinion, and we will tell you why in part 1 of a very special 80s Classics and Cocktails (and I don't mean that in a Diff'rent Strokes way). Stay tuned for Part 2 coming soon. Grab a drink and enjoy!
